Who's broken their little toe ?

I smashed my toes off a wooden toy box earlier on, I was climbing over it at the time and that's how I managed to whack my foot. Bloody hurt as stubbing your toes always does.
But now it's throbbing, looks slightly swollen and I'm hobbling about. I've had a feel and it's the base of the toe where it's most painful, I can move it but it is painful.
It especially hurts if I try and lift my toes up. Also strangely it hurts if I lift my entire foot off the ground slightly, could this be a slight fracture or just bruised it ? I know nothing can be done if it is broken.
Never had this off stubbing toes before though it's really painful.

Over the years I've broken both of them, they are twice as big as they should be and the nails grow funny. Basically I buy sandals that hide them.

Thanks @garlictwist I was a bit dismissive of her. Poor sis. Whoops.

I broke mine when was about 12, I was doing bunny hops on a school bench. Confirmed it was broken with an xray but nothing was done

Me, about 3 times. I've also broken my ankle and my 5th metatarsal. I'm a walkkg disaster.

Many, many times. (Have a disorder that makes it surprisingly easy to break/dislocate things but doesn’t bloody make it hurt less.) You need paracetamol & ibuprofen as well as rest, ice, elevation and compression. I would get it xrayed if you can and maybe get a boot or mobility aid so it heals faster. My 4th toe keeps clunking out of joint because it never healed properly and it’s a bastard.

Thanks everyone !! Lots of broken toes on this thread!

I don't think there is any major damage afterall, it's still a little sore if I lift my toes up or lean onto the actual toe but other than that it's fine. No swelling or bruising so I think I just give it a really good bash for it to hurt so much last night

More times than I can remember - I was a particularly maladroit child and sadly didn’t grow out of it.

Just take it to the next toe and take a painkiller

I broke three, the little one and two in plus two tarsal bones in April. Id fallen down the stairs and my whole weight went on them on the door frame. I felt sick and couldn't put any weight on them. Went to hospital and they confirmed the breaks, strapped them up and gave me a moon boot. I couldn't stand for long periods for about six weeks and when I put my winter boots on this year they pinched as my toes are wonky 😂

I broke my little toe a few years ago. The base of the couch went between my little toe and the one next to it. It was so painful and hard to walk on but was advised to bind it up with plasters and just try and walk as normal, so that's what I did and I was ok after about 3 weeks.

PolizeiobermeisterWache · 22/12/2023 14:53

Yes. A couple of years ago. I seem to remember the NhS page said there's not much they can do for a little toe- though a broken big toe should be treated.
I just hobbled round in trainers, with very loose laces near the toes to give room, and tight laces at the top to keep the shoe firmly in place. I limped around, leaning inwards on my foot for a week or two.
It was VERY sore when I banged it into a wooden sofa leg. The little toe and the one next to it swelled up. They bruised underneath first, where the toe joins the foot and then the bruise came out on the top of the toes.
no problems since, though I believe there's a good possibility of osteoarthritis somewhere down the line.

I once broke my big toe and the one next to it when a brick fell on it (loose garden wall in our garden). The bloody pain! I had to strap it all up and wear trainers, then I drove to work as a care worker 1 hour later.

Painkillers, bandage, carry on as normal. The nails dropped off a few days later.

Oh god that must have been so unbelievably painful! That x-ray makes me feel nauseous thinking about how much that must have hurt!

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 23/12/2023 06:11

I’ve broken several toes at different times, including fracture/dislocating my left little toe so it stuck out at a silly angle before I pushed it back 😵‍💫
It’s painful and the bruising can be quite spectacular!
remember stubbing my foot on an underwater rock when on holiday in Lanzarote, two broken toes that time and I hobbled for the whole two weeks.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 23/12/2023 07:46

@MoonlightMemories
Thanks, it was definitely one of the worst pains I've felt! It's the nausea I remember the most though.

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/12/2023 08:46

I’ve broken all the toes on my right foot apart from my big toe when a horse stood on it. They went black , swelled up and the skin split off them. I didn’t go to hospital. They healed fine.

i then broke my big toe a few years later. I did go to hospital for that and they just taped it. At the hospital they said you should always get a big toe x rayed and checked but other toes you don’t have to.
