Cheese board

My job is to make the cheese board this year.

I am going to two shops as they are right next to each other.

One is Aldi, the other is M & S.

I've not been in either for a few weeks. What cheeses would you recommend from these shops.

I have to get a lot it's for 16 people.

I already have Brie but that's it.

Yaaass. I am the only one out of the whole group who likes truffle. I love it.

I will be getting this for me alone lol. Thank you 🤩

And Brie is my fave I cannot guarantee I will even take it for the cheese board. It might stay home just for me

Aldi Gorgonzola 🤤

If you want a good cheddar I like the vintage Cornish crunchier from M & S.

A good Stilton as well, the best you can afford.

I know this is not helpful to OP but might be for others lured in by the cheese title but Waitrose has a fantastic British Cheesemakers box for £15 which is amazing!!

I got a love gin and orange cheddar from Aldi….. all three of my favourite things in one!!

A hard cheese, a soft cheese, a blue cheese, a goats cheese and some sort of hero cheese. Basics of a board.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 21/12/2023 19:32

16 is a lot but don't be tempted to get lots of little bits - it's better to get four huge wedges than 8 small ones if possible. Where you can build it out a bit is crackers, grapes, chutney, etc.

M & S truffle brie and truffle cheddar are highly recommended by my cheese crazy husband!

A delicious Wensleydale and cranberry goes well on a Christmas cheeseboard.

There is no such thing...fruit does not belong in cheese! Xmas Grin

Are you in Royston?

Cheese wise, hard cheese like cheddar, blue like Stilton or Gorgonzola, soft cheese like Brie or Camembert, rubbery Emmental or Edam (retro). Boursin for spreading cheese. Crackers, oat cakes and make sure you have grapes and/or a chutney.

I'm on Liverpool.

The 'Charmer' cheddar from M&S is delicious, from Sussex I think.

Torganer · 21/12/2023 20:10

Aldi have a great selection at the moment. Their Chaource, triple cream Brie, truffle manchego, Bleu D'affinois, are amazing.

Sleeptillnoon · 21/12/2023 20:22

M&S Osau Iraty is delish.

idontlikealdi · 21/12/2023 20:25

M and s vintage Cornish cruncher

Honeyroar · 21/12/2023 20:28

Aldi cheeses are fabulous. I did a cheeseboard from there last week and my husband said their Stilton was one of the best he’s had. I had a Mexican cheddar, a regular mature cheddar, Wensleydale and cranberry (which was the most popular of everything, so definitely has a place on a cheeseboard!). A Compté, an Emmental, a Brie and a stinky Stilton.

Is that cheese shop still in woolton? That used to be amazing!

PurBal · 21/12/2023 20:55

I would go for: soft, blue, 2 hard, smoked/goat/gimmicky. I live in a cheesy area so tend to get random local stuff. I would say it does depend a bit on the crowd. I don’t like fruit in cheese and I’m not sure I’d trust a cheeseboard with that on…
