What are you actually doing today?

I have a very rare quiet day (haven't had one for years) so I have:

  • Wrapped the santa presents
  • filled the stockings
  • planned what we will be having for elf breakfast on Xmas eve
  • later on I will make and freeze the stuffing for Christmas. Might give Yorkshire puddings a go too.

If anyone wants to join me in being merry and sharing what festive tasks you are doing, please jump in.

And no - I don't feel one bit guilty about doing this during work time as I have done hundreds of hours of unpaid overtime this year.

I’ve been working. Taken tomorrow as holiday because I’ve been ill for 2 weeks and am behind with wrapping. As a result, I had to work 10.25 hours today to be in a position to take tomorrow off. I might swap tomorrow to only half a day holiday!

swingtowin · 21/12/2023 21:25

I've been out all day at an activity, then visited child's new house - got home about 4.30 and had about 6 emails all day which took me about 30 mins to deal with (but was checking all day just in case 😉)

Poblano · 21/12/2023 21:39

I was WFH today and fairly busy. I had several meetings, then cleared my inbox ready for the holidays and planned my calendar for the first week back in January.

I was in the office yesterday and actually did less work, lots of people were on their last day and so there was lots of chatting, coffee breaks, boxes of chocolates etc.

WFH again tomorrow but plan to finish early if it's quiet as I have flexi to use.

I was busy today, working, always are in the run up to Christmas

I'm trying to change jobs as I frequently have NOTHING to do... I can cope with the days at home but the 2 days in the office drag unbelievably... It's an on call sort of role, but mostly everything just ticks along. I need a lot more mental stimulation than I've had this past year.

Merry Christmas all.

Genuine question, what do all you WFH people do? I'm an electrician, so I can't do my work remotely, which is great because I love being out and about - but I am genuinely curious about what people are doing WFH, all I know is it involves teams and whatsap and email, but it's a complete world I know nothing of.

Funnily enough, given your username, I am actually a property manager 😁 Or rather, I manage them now.

Today was mostly trying to clear my inbox, although I did pop to the supermarket and collect BIL's present at lunchtime. I suspect tomorrow will be much quieter as most of my team and my boss are off!

I WFH and my work comes in via my laptop- whether I'm in the office or at home the same volume of work will come in on any given day. Some days are frantic others less so.

Our clients are now mostly in holiday mode so work for me has gradually declined over the week- think 20% of the usual calls/enquiries/pieces of work admin today compared to this time last week.

I was in the office today as it happens- as was my team and my own line manager- we cracked on and got the work done in the first couple of hours- then just responded as and when things came in. There is no longer the office space for all the office to come in at the same time so even if we wanted to we couldn't say everyone in 5 days a week- 60 people cannot work at 12 desks!

We catch up 'in person' a couple of times a month. Rest of the time we are at home. We chatted with each other in the lulls and everyone caught up with things like mandatory online training.

Tomorrow I'm WFH and in the lulls I might wrap a couple of presents but am always in sight of my laptop so available for queries or enquiries until 5pm. Cannot wait and will pour a large glass of something on the dot then my Christmas starts!

1st week in Jan will be pure chaos as all the clients will re-emerge with 'urgent requests' so will put the effort and more hours in then.

Womencanlift · 21/12/2023 22:33

I wish it was the quiet Christmas week but in reality I have been logged on until after 9 each night this week, have had to cancel my day of leave tomorrow to get things finished (they won’t be so will likely have to work next week too).

Presents are bought but not wrapped, flying home to parents tomorrow night and not packed a thing. Will just take wrapping paper with me and wrap when I get to my parents

I don’t care about the cost I am getting a double G&T at the airport tomorrow…..

eurochick · 21/12/2023 22:38

@PropertyManager basically all the stuff people do in office jobs when they are in the office.

I'm a lawyer so for me it is answering emails, drafting snotty letters, research, writing legal submissions, calls with others about witness/expert/arbitrator/mediator selection, giving clients advice over Teams, conducting remote hearings, etc. plus all the BD and admin, so preparing articles and presentations, arranging meetings with contacts, sorting expenses and tax and so on.

I have an office in London and base myself there a couple of days a week when I do the face to face meetings. But all the real work gets done at home now.

It's crazy busy for me wfh and I hope to be able to stop working tomorrow afternoon.. it seems everyone wants something from me before the holidays kick in... but not complaining and starting feeling festive!

I work in education technology so xmas always a quiet time for us as all our customers are on leave.
Buts it's mainly teams calls, planning future workshops, writing and research when wfh.

  • cries in NHS ....

Ha ha yes, me too. Despite WFH I have meetings back to back this morning, a report to get out so the department I’m sending it to can deal with it before the break, respond to a consultation with a stupidly short deadline and an ever expanding to-do list. And some expired and largely pointless mandatory training to do.

At some point I need to go to Lidl, but honestly the mandatory training seems more appealing.

Almondmum · 22/12/2023 07:59

Another jealous person here. I've got loads of work, I'll be ploughing through it til the bitter end today. I still have some wrapping to do. We'll be going food shopping late tonight.

Can't wait to clock off!
