What are you actually doing today?

I have a very rare quiet day (haven't had one for years) so I have:

  • Wrapped the santa presents
  • filled the stockings
  • planned what we will be having for elf breakfast on Xmas eve
  • later on I will make and freeze the stuffing for Christmas. Might give Yorkshire puddings a go too.

If anyone wants to join me in being merry and sharing what festive tasks you are doing, please jump in.

And no - I don't feel one bit guilty about doing this during work time as I have done hundreds of hours of unpaid overtime this year.

I am busy this time of year. However I am waiting for the US team to come online, so on my long lunch, I wrapped a couple of birthday presents and put some laundry on.

minisoksmakehardwork · 21/12/2023 14:45

Went for a planned haircut. Boss knows I have an appointment, just not what! Unfortunately public transport is rubbish today due to a funeral causing a road block and 2 buses being cancelled. I'm on my way home 2 hours later than planned. It will go down as a long lunch break, but I have taken advantage and done some Xmas shopping while waiting for the bus.

I've sent some emails but mainly OOO replies have come back.

Ticked off some online training, reading crappy slides from which I have retained precisely nothing.

Had my lunch.

Hohoho.

Going to wrap some presents I think.

Completely off topic but whenever people refer to OOO emails I imagine someone opening one up and the computer making an ooOOOoo noise like a ghost 👻😁

busier than normal today DAMN IT

AlwaysGinPlease · 21/12/2023 14:51

I've been in and out of teams calls all morning. I am now on a very late lunch break. My job hasn't slowed down at all. Working tomorrow too and then off until 2nd January. Cannot wait!

thesugarbumfairy · 21/12/2023 14:51

Well I was in the office this morning, but the power went out at 1pm, so I took that as a sign to WFH.
Now I'm home, the power still isn't on at the office, and Ive got someone coming to collect 'stuff' for a charity tombola at the local butchers, so I'm roaming round the house looking for nice things I can donate.

MintJulia · 21/12/2023 16:08

I've had a fairly lazy day because I'm on annual leave.

Taken delivery of a desk for my office
Done my tax return 🍾
Packed the last of the presents
Played chess with DS
Made a dozen mince pies.

Tomorrow will be busy - last minute food shopping, visiting friends & family 🙂

LoobyDop · 21/12/2023 16:12

I spent this morning in back to back planned conference calls, and this afternoon sending messages and having impromptu calls about an unexpected issue that has popped up. My last meeting won’t finish until 5:30.

Lovelydovey · 21/12/2023 16:33

I worked a few hours on my non working day so I could finish early today. I spent this morning (7am - 1pm) prepping some docs to go out to clients, responded to a few queries and had a bilateral with my boss. I stopped working at lunchtime so I could take the children to McDonald's after they broke up from school and I've had a nap!

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 21/12/2023 16:38

I'm reading bollocks about the company. The MD has a habit of "checking in" so I have to stay busy. It's excruciating and I wish I'd saved some annual leave for this week.
Lesson learned for next year.

wildwestpioneer · 21/12/2023 16:39

I'm so pissed if, usually this week at work is really quiet but we're rolling out a customer project and it's a nightmare. I'm busier than normal, so have got none of the nice stuff done would usually whilst wfh

Echobelly · 21/12/2023 16:50

Took DS to the local ice cream shop for holiday treat. Logging off 10 mins early to get into town to meet DH and go the theatre.

Cleaned kitchen as well.

Username5678910 · 21/12/2023 16:52

I went to IKEA and the gym, I was available if anything came in and used my lunch break but its really quiet. I've also got 1/2 a day in lieu to use up so don't feel too bad as everyone else has taken theirs.

PropertyManager · 21/12/2023 17:17

Genuine question, what do all you WFH people do? I'm an electrician, so I can't do my work remotely, which is great because I love being out and about - but I am genuinely curious about what people are doing WFH, all I know is it involves teams and whatsap and email, but it's a complete world I know nothing of.

Xiaoxiong · 21/12/2023 17:45

@PropertyManager I have two hats - one hat is convincing lots of people around the world to invest money to combat climate change, and the other hat is making sure the climate change combatting is actually happening in a measurable way and telling everyone how much progress we're making (my colleagues do the investing). So lots of emails, phone calls, zoom meetings, delegating tasks to other people, reviewing various management systems, crunching through data, creating more databases and spreadsheets to track things, etc.

But at this time of the year everyone's either sick, zoned out, on holiday already, or sitting at home wrapping presents and cleaning their own kitchens while WFH!

I work in a specialist field, but basically it's analysis.

I consume insane volumes of data, spend weeks reading and making notes. I assess the data (of all types) for credibility and value, and then create reports / written presentations / fancy business products / investigate the circumstances and aim to prevent deaths, injuries, overdoses and generally all sorts of criminal offences 😁

mambojambodothetango · 21/12/2023 18:10

Er... working! For most of the day anyway. Had a break at lunchtime to make mince pies but just stopped now to cook tea, wrap presents and go out for a drink with friends and hopefully not catch covid for Xmas

Thingamebobwotsit · 21/12/2023 18:12

Worked solidly from 8am to 6pm. Ate lunch at my desk on a call. Managed two loo breaks. I WfH 3 days a week and never get chores done as we are far too busy. Not a healthy way to live but the work is interesting. I get more chores done the days I go into the office.

AllAroundMyCat · 21/12/2023 18:14

I feel sure that retail staff, emergency staff, support staff, delivery drivers , cleaning staff, service staff and so many more are delighted to read this thread about how WFH staff are doing Jack shit and just carrying on with their own private lives whilst still earning a full salary.

Makes me sick.

AllAroundMyCat · 21/12/2023 18:15

And you should be shamed about bragging about it.

Whiskerson · 21/12/2023 18:17

What is "elf breakfast on Christmas Eve"?

Also... I applaud you if you've got this done with kids at home for the school hols too! You are very organised and I like the idea of freezing Yorkshire puds.

Beezknees · 21/12/2023 18:17

I have been working.

Customer service for a major utility company. I answer calls and emails most of the day and some back office work.
