Can't sleep because of the wind ...

My bedroom is in the attic and it's really noisy up there so I'm sleeping on my daughter's floor. The wind is so loud and I'm imagining it ripping off my roof tiles. We lost our ridge tiles (new roof - dry ridge system) in the last storm and I'm lying here waiting to hear the new tiles dump on my car. Is anyone else nervous about Storm Pia and can I have a hand hold? Thanks lovely mumsnetters

Also in NW and it sounds like a bloody hurricane outside.

Tummytroubles22 · 21/12/2023 05:18

NE Scotland and I’ve been awake worrying about it since 4 am. Our recycling bins need to go out and I’ve just checked one is scattered across the garden, I can’t put them down the hill to be emptied they will be everywhere but I really want them empty before Christmas recycling. We missed the general waste 2 weeks ago because it was too icy to take the bin down so I’m already fed up going to the tip.

i can cope with any weather except the wind!

Bimblesalong · 21/12/2023 05:54

Also up due to wild wind in Cheshire. There’ll be some roads blocked I’m sure.

Beezknees · 21/12/2023 05:56

Just woke up. I'm in Derbyshire. I'm not worried about it, it's just annoying!

AuntieMarys · 21/12/2023 05:57

I've been downstairs since 3 as the noise is terrible in the attic. I get very distressed and anxiina storm as 2 years ago our roof blew off

blahblahx · 21/12/2023 05:59

Me and my toddler have been abruptly woken up by the wind. It's howling and everything sounds like it's shaking.

In West Yorkshire

TheChippendenSpook · 21/12/2023 06:01

I haven't watched or read the news in a few days, so read that as pain in (the) arse!

It is a pain in the arse, it woke me up, but not early enough so I could go back to sleep unfortunately.

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 21/12/2023 06:06

West coast ireland here and it is ferocious. We are very exposed and high up so too noisy to sleep. Just got up and washed up, did the elf and checked my christmas lists.

sleepyscientist · 21/12/2023 06:09

Was out at 3am pulling the cars away from the house. We've lost two/three ridge tiles just hoping the schools are open and I can get to work. 3.5hrs sleep and I don't finish until 10pm it's going to be a long day.

Sugarfree23 · 21/12/2023 06:13

The noise has woken me up. It's wild.

Furrydogmum · 21/12/2023 06:19

Also West Yorkshire, haven't slept much! Still very strong winds.

pattyparsnip · 21/12/2023 06:23

West Yorkshire here . Been awake since half four , laid in bed visualising the outdoor Christmas lights all over the street . Just checked and there still intactXmas Smile.

SplendidUtterly · 21/12/2023 06:24

I'm laying here awake praying that the fences don't get blown down😂

meisafairy · 21/12/2023 06:25

Durham here, been up since 4am with the howling wind.
According to met office we have a moderate wind warning ⚠️
It feels a lot worse than moderate.

Beaverbridge · 21/12/2023 06:26

Been up since 4.on my 3rd cup of tea now. Better stay close for loo!!.

GalaxyStars · 21/12/2023 06:30

My roof is now surprisingly quiet and I'm wondering whether it's finally blown off. Met office says it's 60mph now. I daren't go and check on the attic and guess there's not much I could do anyway. I have also moved the car onto the road. Thanks for the company guys, I was just awake and stewing here on my own.

West Yorkshire here too. It’s wild out there, I’m laid in bed, in the loft conversion, hoping the tiles that are rattling & banging stay put. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that some of the pot plants will be blown over and there will be broken branches strewn around the garden!

GalaxyStars · 21/12/2023 06:33

@Pigwig10 do you have a dry ridge system on your attic? Our attic is new (this year) and I'm not enamoured with the ridge tiles we have. We have lost them once already and they're very noisy (even in much milder wind). Can you talk to me about what you have on your attic?

I'm in the north west iits a it windy out there now ,but I must have been oblivious too it during the night🤔
I do go to sleep listening to either wind or rain on an App though!

user73 · 21/12/2023 06:35

There’s a tree about to go here. Every couple of gusts there’s a further cracking noise. Living in woodland in this weather is not good but then next door have taken down lots of trees (illegally) which has left others exposed and not strong enough to cope.

Rosiiee · 21/12/2023 06:38

In Ireland here and toddler was woken up a few times by wind rattling and whistling through his window. Older DS due to fly solo to France today and now I’m worried about the plane and the wind!!

irisgg7 · 21/12/2023 06:40

Also West Yorkshire, up on the moors and it's always windy here (wheely bins get chained up as the norm) It's very bad at the moment. Can't see out yet. I did move all of the pots and Christmas stuff to a sheltered spot so fingers crossed.

hellsbells99 · 21/12/2023 06:42

In Cheshire and it’s very noisy here. DH has gone off to work so hoping the roads are okay. He works at the airport and they were loading extra fuel on their planes last night to weigh them down and stop them being blown around whilst standing overnight.

StarSparkleShine · 21/12/2023 06:47

Kept me awake half the night, it’s still horrendous here. I don’t want to get up and see the damage

NorthernPoppetPrincess · 21/12/2023 06:51

We’re South Yorkshire and wow, it is wild out there! Dreading doing the school run in this!!
