Is anyone else ill at the moment?

I'm lying here feeling crappy and wondering if anyone else is poorly at the moment? Can't sleep for coughing.

OH was ill all over the weekend with a high temp and hacking cough, tested for covid but negative. Then DS and I went down with it on Monday and he has been off school and me work. I was hoping I might get back in tomorrow, as work in a school and we break up on Thursday anyway, but I don't think anyone would thank me as this virus/cold/whatever has been pretty nasty.

Both DS and I have tested for Covid but both negative, so wondering if it's a flu thing? I can get out of bed, but was pretty wobbly just now when I went to the loo.

It's now looking like it might effect end of week and Christmas plans.. we have family descending on Xmas Eve 😩. I don't generally get ill often, I think working in a school helps build up an iron immunity, so it's just bloody typical that we get ill a few days before hosting Christmas 😩

I'm just venting really as can't sleep. Anyone else in the same boat?

I rarely suffered with winter bugs, I used to get the odd sniffle but that was about it. But ever since this covid malarkey kicked off, I've had some weird ones. Never knowingly had covid, but have had strange "colds" where I've had ALL the symptoms come on together - sore throat, glands up, headache, cough, aching joints, etc, then they've faded and come back one at a time. Most recent one started last weekend with sore throat, progressed to feeling like death just about warmed up on Monday with the snots/cough following, and now I've just got a cough and catarrh but feel ok. All my joints and head ached a bit, but both knees really hurt. What's that all about?

littleblackcat27 · 21/12/2023 05:10

@PinkSparklyPussyCat hehe after writing that I wasn't too bad I felt rough AF (!) all day and didn't eat a lot but paracetemol helpful. I'm at work today so will just see how it goes.

Hope you're feeling better this am along with others on this thread.

I'm feeling a tiny bit better today, so that's after four weeks, entering week 5. Meanwhile, I have bought nothing for Christmas (couldn't have answered the door for deliveries and got back up the stairs). No food, no presents, nowt.

Meanwhile DP's side of the family now seem to have the presence of chicken pox in their midst as well.

So this is going to be interesting.

ibertyfloormop · 21/12/2023 16:14

Had my 4th day off work and DS 4th day off school today.

I'm missing my end of term drinks happening right now, and a friends Christmas party tomorrow 😞.

Still feeling chesty and light headed. I'm still going to have a G+T tonight though as determined to do something nice this evening!

My nose is in tatters. Have just slathered it in Sudocrem.

Enjoy your G&T, @ibertyfloormop. I'm having a white wine in a minute and going to watch the 2nd half of Tipping Point just for the raw excitement of seeing Ben Shepherd say 'back to the categories' over and over again while keeping his smiley face on.

It's that bloody cough. Weeks and weeks of coughing (DCs). I'm the only one who didn't get it and only one COVID boostered.

AutumnCrow · 21/12/2023 16:38

I had my 7th covid jab in October. Still got the damn cough, though. I've done 5 LFTs now, all negative.

It's an absolute bummer.

Can I ask if it's a dry or chesty cough? I now have a cold with a throaty cough but for a few weeks before that I've had a dry, hacking cough. Not hooping cough, just a bloody annoying dry cough!

inappropriateraspberry · 21/12/2023 17:47

@PinkSparklyPussyCat I have had similar. Had a cold weeks ago, and was left with a tickly cough. Now have a new cold with a more chesty cough.
DH thinks it's the same cough and cold and keeps telling me to see a Dr. I keep telling him it's 2 separate illnesses that have run one into the other, and a Dr wouldn't do anything except recommend rest and paracetamol!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 21/12/2023 17:53

@inappropriateraspberry I thought mine was allergies at first but now I'm not so sure. I actually had an appointment to see my GP about the tickly cough but when I came down with this over the weekend I cancelled as they'll only tell me it's because I've got a cold! I hope you feel better soon

Tonight1 · 21/12/2023 17:58

Bit better today thanks, I have some ginger tea to soothe my stomach and managed to eat a bit for the first time in a few days. Going to follow the BRAT diet for a couple more days (bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast).

Get better soon to all!

FlyingCherub · 21/12/2023 18:07

I had Covid a couple of weeks ago, and wasn't really unwell with it but it's left me with a postnasal drip/frog in my throat that I just can't clear and it's really dragging me down. It's also flared up my costochondritis so my ribs are very uncomfortable.

After a horrendous year and losing my Dad in January, I was so desperately looking forward to a calm and gentle Christmas this year - i'm in chaos with shopping and gifts, let alone the food shop. I've missed the cut off for our veg delivery and just put a stupid small box in my basket to get the delivery on the system. FFS.

WeeOrcadian · 21/12/2023 18:15

I'm 8 weeks in and only marginally turning a corner

Feel better soon

lemmein · 21/12/2023 18:19

I woke up feeling like I'd swallowed razor blades 😖

This thread is not making me hopeful that'll improve before Christmas!

user14699084786 · 21/12/2023 18:28

Half the household here coughing like 60 a day smokers…they’ve tested Covid positive. About 9 days in now.
Hoping the rest of us avoid it, fingers crossed!

twiddlingthumbs69 · 21/12/2023 18:40

Day 1 for me. Woke up this morning with tight chest and dry cough. Just feel a bit meh. Oh, hang on, nose has just started running. Negative on the covid test. Really pissed off! Too much to do for this shit!

Babyroobs · 21/12/2023 18:57

Our whole office is off sick since Xmas meal last week. there has literally been only one person and the manager in this week out of about ten. About four of us have covid but some are testing negative, I'm sure it's just not showing up on some tests.
