Is anyone else ill at the moment?

I'm lying here feeling crappy and wondering if anyone else is poorly at the moment? Can't sleep for coughing.

OH was ill all over the weekend with a high temp and hacking cough, tested for covid but negative. Then DS and I went down with it on Monday and he has been off school and me work. I was hoping I might get back in tomorrow, as work in a school and we break up on Thursday anyway, but I don't think anyone would thank me as this virus/cold/whatever has been pretty nasty.

Both DS and I have tested for Covid but both negative, so wondering if it's a flu thing? I can get out of bed, but was pretty wobbly just now when I went to the loo.

It's now looking like it might effect end of week and Christmas plans.. we have family descending on Xmas Eve 😩. I don't generally get ill often, I think working in a school helps build up an iron immunity, so it's just bloody typical that we get ill a few days before hosting Christmas 😩

I'm just venting really as can't sleep. Anyone else in the same boat?

Me too here. Had a terrible night with fever, coughing and cold. Feeling marginally better this morning and trying to debate whether to push it and work today as I feel rubbish (however I wfh, never call in sick, and finish for Christmas tomorrow lunchtime).

Bippitybobbityboing · 20/12/2023 06:37

Me!! Hot and cold, joint pain, throat feels like I'm swallowing razors and my nose won't stop running.

I took a day off work yesterday but have promised to go back in today...urgh!

GrowUpWoman · 20/12/2023 07:14

I know flus and colds are an inevitable part of winter, but this news article also made me go a bit 😫🙄 “here we go again…”

China says no 'unusual or novel pathogens' after WHO queries respiratory outbreaks https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-67505218

All your posts remind me of DH and DS who were horribly ill at Christmas 2019, I am sure they were early cases of covid but of course we’ll never know.

Wishing you all better soon and in time for Christmas.

Just woke up, neck felt a bit sore - yup, lymph nodes are inflamed as always at the start of something and I have a blocked nose.

I expect I will be feeling like shit by this evening. Fabulous.

ChewbaccasMrs · 20/12/2023 07:56

Yes me and my DD16(we both have lowered immune systems and are disabled so this really doesn't help)we've been ill for 2 weeks now and it just seems to be getting worse. On antibiotics now and I hope they start kicking in soon,we've tested for covid a couple of times but it's not that.

The cough is flaming hacking,it's stopping us both from sleeping and eating and
I could honestly cry,our DGS is having his first Christmas with us in 3 years(he doesn't live near us)and this goes and happens. So me and my DD will no doubt be spending Christmas in bed.😓

mynellie · 20/12/2023 07:58

My DH has just spent a week in hospital with it his oxygen level was down to 82 and I have spent the week mostly in bed with it, covid tests negative and the coughing is still with us and phlegm in abundance. It is really nasty and we were both vaccinated with the flu jab

inappropriateraspberry · 20/12/2023 08:04

Yes! Awful cough, chesty and phlegmy. 🤢 Runny nose as well, headache, sweaty in bed but ok once up. Thankfully I seem to be sleeping ok. Just woken up and started coughing, blowing nose etc. Husband also has cough but feels better in himself.
Really hoping it shifts before Christmas.
I tend to catch every cough and cold going and the hang around for ages though.
Husband keeps saying I should go to the Dr, but I tell him they won do anything! Also tested for Covid, but negative.

BotDranning · 20/12/2023 08:18

God me too...... came on last night. Feeling absolutely flawed by it. Sore Chest. Dry cough. Headache. Temperature. Even my mouth hurts 😔and I can't sleep for coughing. Bloody awful.

Notafanofchristmas · 20/12/2023 08:34

Happy christmas, everyone 😭😖

inappropriateraspberry · 20/12/2023 08:36

Since I've woken this morning big I have not stopped blowing my nose! So much snot!! All from the left nostril that was blocked last night. Good job I stocked up on tissues.

Tonight1 · 20/12/2023 08:47

Sore throat so difficult to swallow, sore stomach haven't eaten in 2 days, temp 34°c. Just trying to drink water and may be able to start some food today! It makes you feel a bit weak.

awaynboilyurheid · 20/12/2023 08:50

Just to say my nurse friend (intensive care charge nurse) told me recently that many people are testing negative on over the counter covid tests but on admission to hospital their hospital tests are positive . Hacking cough for weeks here and it’s almost like whooping cough type cough apparently is very common at the moment.

Lisad1975 · 20/12/2023 08:54

Its my sinsus which is just so painful. Everytime I get a cold they are just so annoying . Fed up with the ear buzzing and headache!

slavetothekittens · 20/12/2023 08:57

Yep, not been well since weekend.

Two days of a throat that felt it was lined with broken glass, runny nose, lost my voice and now have a nasty cough which is worse at night. Voice is beginning to come back, I sound croaky rather than whispery.

Luckily am pretty organised on the Xmas front.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/12/2023 09:00

littleblackcat27 · 20/12/2023 04:45

I've got a cold but not nearly as bad as you lot! It started so quickly, driving home from work my nose felt 'heavy' (weird but yeah) now its blocked and dripping at the same time - such fun.

Can't remember the last time I had a plain old cold!

That sounds like mine. It came on out of the blue and I now have a hacking cough to go with it, and really weirdly an itchy scalp. I've done 3 Covid tests now as we've got my elderly family coming here at Christmas but all have been negative.

I hope everyone feels better soon.

hazandduck · 20/12/2023 09:04

DD broke up for school on Friday. Some time on Saturday she developed a fever and cough. It’s a hacking cough she said it hurts her ‘heart’ (chest) when she coughs. It’s been accompanied with nausea loss of appetite and upset tum. It’s the fever that’s been the worst though, she’ll be seemingly much better bouncing around and then the calpol wears off and she’s back to laying on the sofa. She never sleeps this much, but she’s been absolutely shattered.

We’ve been stuck in the house, apart from Saturday when we went to see Santa and a show. Thankfully I decided to do a bit less these holidays so she had time to rest after a busy term at school so we didn’t have lots of things booked in that I lost money on.

I’d absolutely hate to be the person who ruined someone else’s Christmas by passing on our germs.

Get well soon everyone hopefully in time
for Christmas Day!! DD has woken up this morning without a fever so praying she improves from here..

ilovesleep1234 · 20/12/2023 11:26

Just called into school to let them know that I won't be going in for the rest of the week (we break up on Friday). Positive covid test at the weekend/feeling rubbish/and most importantly not wanting to infect lots of others to wreck their Christmas. I don't agree with the school policy of go in if you feel well enough. I feel loads better for making this decision after being in turmoil about letting my team down during the last week. Now I'm going to focus on getting me better so I can enjoy Christmas with my family X

ibertyfloormop · 20/12/2023 11:37

Erk sorry to hear so many are unwell at the moment. I was feeling very sorry for myself in the early hours as it seemed as if the minute I drifted off, my cough would return and that was that!

Missing Christmas lunch day at school today which is always a jolly affair 😞, but the colleague I share an office with has MS and is immune-compromised, so going in just wouldn't be right.

I may try and get in tomorrow for the last day but playing it very much by ear.

Might go for a walk in a bit as been stuck inside since Monday.

We are all down as well. DH started Thursday evening with a cough, by Friday afternoon he was in bed until yesterday.
DD and I followed on Sunday evening.

Severe cough and feeling rubbish, aches and pais, shivering and then sweating. But no temperature or sinus issues. Normally a cold ends in my sinus from start.

We all had the flu jab so it's either the flu but only milder or something new.
DH tested for Covid but was negative.

We feel slightly better now but still tired.

Tonight1 · 20/12/2023 12:07

I was just about to complain that I had an email about from evri today that parcel was being delivered today so I couldn't go to supermarket and try to start eating properly again but luckily it's just showed!

Seems like a lot of us have sore throats. I have the chills though rather than fever.

Doggomom91 · 20/12/2023 12:15

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and have been ill since Sunday. It's either a very bad cold or a milder flu (I've had my flu jab) and definitely not COVID. Whatever it is it's knocked me side ways and I've had to take time off work. Barely have the energy to get out of bed but my energy is slowly coming back. I'm so blocked up and my head constantly pounds and my muscles ache. I made sure to get checked out by the GP who said he can't rule out flu but as long as I don't have a temperature baby will be fine so I'm taking paracetamol to keep it down. It's so frustrating getting poorly this close to Christmas, I haven't wrapped a single present or written a card as my job is so hectic and being pregnant is generally tiring! I hope you get well soon! It's good to have a rant.

AutumnCrow · 20/12/2023 12:15

Top tip I learned from MN: codeine does (for some people) actually suppress a cough. Enough to get a few hours' sleep, anyway. So co-codomol would be worth trying for some.

And to think I've had all my jabs: covid booster, flu, pneumococcal wotsit, shingrix#1. I'm like the poster woman for vaccinations. I've been ill for a month.

marleymoo12 · 20/12/2023 12:29

Yes me and my three children are all poorly we've all got sore throats, colds, back/joint pain negative for Covid though (we tested because we are going to my parents for Christmas & I don't want to give them anything) and to top it off we're all getting conjunctivitis too!

Sartre · 20/12/2023 12:31

Feel like we’ve been sick all month in this house tbh but then, it’s the same every December so I’ve got used to Christmas being marred slightly by sickness.

BrokenWing · 20/12/2023 12:41

dh has been awful since Thursday last week - out of bed today but still very rough. He's done 3-4 (nearly out of date/old) covid tests and all negative. Irritating cough, lots of phlegm, sore but not shivery. It is the headaches, maybe sinuses that are the worst. He has tried taking decongestants but says they make it worse.

He is not normally prone to coughs/colds and it is the first he has really had for years (even pre covid).

Unfortunately it means a couple of his (not very happy) customers will be spending Christmas with a huge open hole in their ceilings!
