A notebook/journal and if there is money left over a pen. I recommend frixion for cheap but always appreciated.

might be out of budget, but if you catch a sale you may be able to get a board game.

no food. No toiletries. Nothing scented. They all run the risk of causing problems with allergies

Probably too late now but I'd be totally happy with a scented candle (love them) or nice chocolate box (not truffles)! But how are you going to wrap it if on way to work?
