@Morespecicially I hope you are going to come back and let us know what you went for and what the recipient thought?!

piscofrisco · 19/12/2023 08:52

I'd want a chair as candle because I'm rub out and probably want one more to last me until the day. I like a Christmassy candle in all the time this week and I wfh so I go through a few!

Whiskers4 · 19/12/2023 08:55

Wine, nice quality biscuits or a voucher

Just a costa gift card or something

Vinoveritass · 19/12/2023 10:28

@NerrSnerr I know you can't be sure and the recipient might like a supermarket scarf, but that is such personal taste that the likelihood of getting it wrong is too high. They might not be excited as such by hand cream or a reed diffuser but at least they would most likely get used. And like I said, I'd stick to choosing from a range of inoffensive options, guided by what they know about the recipient. All personal opinion but I know I would not want someone else to choose me a scarf and sure most people would feel the same!

SatanClaws · 19/12/2023 10:33

Nice hand cream

AuntieStella · 19/12/2023 10:41

If you had greater range of shops available, then my ideal <£15 would be proper running socks

As you've only a supermarket, I'd get a bottle of limoncello (festive but not one of those weird ones that ends up via a year in a cupboard at the school bottle tombola). This assumes that you know they drink alcohol.

Otherwise a panettone in as nice a wrapper as possible

SallyWD · 19/12/2023 10:43

Any of these:
A really lovely mug
Box of quality chocolates (would rather have a very small box of good chocolates then a big box of average chocolates)
Butter butter/body cream
Cosy socks

AuntieStella · 19/12/2023 10:44

Or a bottle of posh olive oil - I don't mean a flavoured one, rather one of those that comes from impeccable lines of olives that have been crushed by generations of peasants from the estate over at least a couple of centuries, but only when the moon is in the correct phase.

Or balsamic vinegar that's so aged that it's not just drawing its pension, it's also won the tontine

It's threads like these that show that Secret Santa should be done in a way that a name is picked and that person can list 5 types of things they like and 5 that they really wouldn't want.
It still gives the gift giver choice to pick something but it's better than giving something totally random.

You can get apps that let you put a list of what you do and don't like on and gifters can ask anonymous questions to get to know you better.

verylongday · 19/12/2023 11:06

I would like a beautifullypackaged panettone

LenaLamont · 19/12/2023 11:12

FredaFox · 19/12/2023 07:31

Nobody wants a tin of tuna 😂

But Ortiz tuna, though…

That stuff is to die for.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/12/2023 11:16

5 x Caprice des Dieux and a malteasers reindeer.

Spirallingdownwards · 19/12/2023 11:18

Waitrose do a John Lewis gift card so one of those please because you can use in JL or Waitrose. Thank you.

Hbh17 · 19/12/2023 11:20

A Terry's chocolate orange
A pair of good quality socks
A book token

Katrinawaves · 19/12/2023 11:25

How about a Christmas pudding, or a box of luxury mince pies and some expensive ground coffee?

The best work Christmas gift I ever got (though from a client not secret Santa) was a wheel of Parmesan cheese. It lasted us months. I’d also be thrilled with expensive olive oil or balsamic vinegar.

Daisy95 · 19/12/2023 07:46

I'd be more than happy with either a book or voucher and a box of chocolates to go with it

Me too!

Babla · 19/12/2023 11:32

Bottle of champers

AndThatWasNY · 19/12/2023 11:34

FloweringNumbat · 19/12/2023 07:00

There is a woman at my work that always gets given cheese.

Oh let that be me!

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 19/12/2023 11:44

If it's still on club card offer I'd have the litre bottle of baileys for a tenner

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/12/2023 12:15

Tia Maria Lovely in coffee or coke

Christmassss · 19/12/2023 12:19

I’d like a gift set with a Mini bottle of Prosecco or Baileys with a glass/chocolate/candle and a coffee shop voucher please or two gift sets.
I love those on Christmas evening, I feel special with my mini bottle of whatever.

AndyPandyismyhero · 19/12/2023 12:32

It is really hard without knowing more about the recipient. I like wine, but don't drink it often and prefer to buy my own. Chocolate I love, but again, tend to buy a couple of bars of Lindt 90% once a year or so and that lasts me. I do like scented candles, but not all the scents appeal to me. The smell of hyacinths makes me heave, so as pretty as they are, a basket of those would go straight in my bin!
I would love a good handcream and a lottery ticket or scratchcard.

SingingSands · 19/12/2023 12:41

I broke my work mug last week so I'd appreciate a new one as the office mugs are skanky 😄
