A lie-in

dullandgrey · 19/12/2023 07:41

Fluffy socks and chocolate would be good with me!

Ragwort · 19/12/2023 07:43

Pretty pot of hyacinths? Always my favourite, no one ever gives them to me so I buy my own ... please not an orchid, have killed too many off.

Sparkling wine (not Prosecco).

JanetandRita · 19/12/2023 07:44

Candy kittens, chocolate and wine

Daisy95 · 19/12/2023 07:46

I'd be more than happy with either a book or voucher and a box of chocolates to go with it

RhubarbFairy · 19/12/2023 07:47

As you asked what I'd want...

Socks, always socks. Particularly bamboo ones, though I don't know if you can get those in those shops.

Some nice stationery.

Definitely no alcohol, as you don't know what I like (I hate wine) or a plant (I'm a serial plant killer).

OceanicBoundlessness · 19/12/2023 07:54

Cheese!

Can't stand Bailey's, scented things are a no, I would feel a bit meh about a plant, love chocolate but find Lindt really sickly. But cheese would be a winner.

NerrSnerr · 19/12/2023 08:00

I'd like Christmas biscuits in a nice tin, Christmas socks or mug for the office.

Beautiful3 · 19/12/2023 08:01

Expensive chocolates with kettle crisps, would be awesome. Theyre the kind of things people wouldnt buy themselves. I don't drink alcohol, and feel annoyed when people gift me wine. It just gets regifted.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 19/12/2023 08:08

Some lovely ideas on here. Please get something as decadent as you can with the budget you have. Something you wouldn't normally splurge on for yourself. I know people think SS is trivial or just a bit of fun but for some people it's the only present they get so please... if you say you're going to take part, please do it properly.

£10 costa/nero voucher and a Lindt chocolate Santa

This

Definitely not a supermarket scarf!!

Do go to waitrose and I agree with two items, a mix of safe chocolates (no weird flavours) and a reed diffuser or a hand cream or a poinsettia plant, depending on what you know about the person. If you are 100% sure they like booze, the cremant idea is also good

It's subjective though isn't it? If 100% prefer a supermarket scarf to a hand cream or a reed defuser.

LaPalmaLlama · 19/12/2023 08:18

No 1 Macaroni cheese for 4 and 2 packs of broccolini- would save me going to the supermarket on the way home 🤣. Failing that a bottle of rosé and some olives.

TroysMammy · 19/12/2023 08:21

I'd love a bottle of Spanish olive oil. At £9 or so it's not something I'd buy lightly.

DilemmaDelilah · 19/12/2023 08:21

A really nice blank notebook.

Daisies12 · 19/12/2023 08:22

Wine and chocs. Definitely not clothing

Sintel · 19/12/2023 08:25

Not a poinsettia - they're poisonous to cats and kids. I've had to put several straight in the bin over the years which is a shame as they're so pretty. I would think chocolate is your safest bet with a Christmas bauble of some kind?

Bbq1 · 19/12/2023 08:32

No achohol, i don't drink, nor do a lot of people.
Chocolates maybe but Lindor best.
I would buy a nice, edible Gift Set if treats provided you know the recipient and what they like.

Bbq1 · 19/12/2023 08:36

Lovely notebook and pen?

FutureMandosWife · 19/12/2023 08:41

No alcohol unless you know they drink. I keep getting it and everyone knows I don't drink.

HairdryerMary · 19/12/2023 08:43

Candle
Posh fizzy drink
Tony's dark chocolate

Checkcheckandcheckagain · 19/12/2023 08:49

Candle! I'm a sucker for a festive smell!

evilharpy · 19/12/2023 08:50

I'd be gutted to receive chocolate, I hate the stuff.

I would like alcohol. For £15 (Tesco clubcard price) I'd love a 70cl bottle of Captain Morgans, or Beefeater blood orange gin. Or a nice bottle of wine.

Would also love that Murdle book.
