Just that really.. (Kind of lighthearted/maybe not!)

A few horrific things in this thread that I wish I'd never read.

But on the-less-horrific-but-still-shocking side is how keen posters are to jump down each other's throats over some nuance in a short reply

Frisate · 19/12/2023 17:07

A thread about XL bullies and someone suggests the government must handout knives and get people training to use them as that’s the only way we can protect ourselves from dogs. It was hilarious!

Also, how gullible people are about giving money to substance abusing people in the street (most of which go home after getting their days 'earnings') all of whom those giving them money for stuff are helping to kill, even those who aren't spending the money on substances, because it's enabling people to be on the streets rather than housed after being in a hostel. Being on the streets helps take 20 years off someone's life.

How gullible people are in assuming any rough sleeper can just snap their fingers and magically get a hostel place, when hostel places can be like gold dust and sometimes physically much more dangerous than sleeping rough. (Former rough sleeper here.)

And how much people who have never been close to homeless like to demonise and make life harder for those with nothing.

Posts from mothers of adult children with very challenging disabilities who are living absolutely desperate lives – and realising how little support they get.

Southpoint · 19/12/2023 17:16

A person I knew apparently died of asphyxiation in a sex game with a sex worker. It was a shocked for relatives and friends. The incident was in the newspapers of the country it happened. Really awful to see for the family specially kids. I would never ever willing it do this.

AllAroundMyCat · 19/12/2023 17:20

If I was expecting a parcel that day, I'd know to open the door. These days most parcels have a tracking/expected time of delivery.

Meter reading? Smart meters so no need, and if they really need access I'd want a pre-arranged time to come inside my house not just whenever they feel like it.
*

So what about a neighbour knocking on your door about a wrongly delivered parcel? Or concerned about something to do with your property? Or an emergency worker about water /electricity/gas supply that couldn't have been sent to you in time? *

I have a neighbour like you. I often get her parcels as she won't answer the door!
Only last week we had one and she was in , husband could see her in her front kitchen yet she refused to answer the door. It was pissing down with rain so my husband left it on her drive to get well sodden. ( no porch.)

Not the poster but none of that would apply to me, I live in a block of flats with a concierge, all parcels are collected and stored by the doormen, and they would text me if there was any emergency that required immediate entry. I can't imagine any situation where someone would knock on my door without being expected. (If a neighbour had a problem they'd go to the concierge or maybe put it in the building's whatsapp, not knock on random doors.) I live in central London, no one with good intentions is sneaking past security into a building and knocking on random doors.

Mumsnet acts like everyone lives in a house somewhere rural or suburban.

I'll never forget the poster who was washing her mooncup in the toilet flush.

And a close runner-up, the poster whose DH drank her mooncup water. 😯

The woman who put her kids to bed in their uniforms ready for the next day Blush

You mustn't be on here very much if that's the worst thing you've read.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I've done it myself.

Miss Rachel, the popular kids entertainer, put a video out saying she does exactly the same thing.

Providing the children are washed, clean and put into fresh uniform where's the harm?

My DC are 4 and 6. They're bathed before bed and don't get sweaty/dirty during the night.

Things like this can be a game changer for parents of children with special needs who struggle with getting ready in the morning.

I couldn't give a toss what anybody else thinks to be honest. It works for us and plenty of others.

Well thank fuck in more and more places choking someone is illegal.

Any man who finds it sexually arousing to choke a woman is a sick fuck, who should be in jail. And that includes your partners too.

Some women enjoy being choked though. Nothing wrong with kinks between consenting adults!

I'm former homeless person and I left the hostel... it was NOT a safe place too be and I would choose to sleep rough over that any day.

Anyone that had lived in one would 100% understand why sleeping rough is better.

I do agree that beggars that you see are junkies not homeless people though. Every beggar I have known has had a home and a vice, they make a lot of money.

I think a lot of people would be surprised at who is 'homeless'... we don't 'look' it and keep out of the way and don't draw attention to it (safety is people not noticing you or knowing your vulnerable).

That anyone is stupid enough to pay attention to use by dates on food. Or buying anything food wise that has 'baby' on it.

I mean… you should definitely pay attention to use by dates on food??!?

Some of the stories from landlords are pretty staggering. There was one who held her tenant to moving out date when the tenant's house purchase was delayed, even though she didn't have another tenant lined up. Petty and bonkers.

Thats horrendous! I was so lucky when my house purchase was delayed by 8 weeks my landlady let me roll on and pay rent week by week as it went on. She said she needed to redecorate anyway before reletting and she was a reasonable human being. I was lucky!

DemBonesDemBones · 19/12/2023 17:59

@CatMadam if your eyes and nose work you really don't need to know the sell by date of anything. It's the greatest trick ever pulled on consumers.

I've reported this. This spreading of the myth women enjoy being hurt and want to die is utterly wrong.
Men who do this, whether the partner wants them to or not, should be in prison. It is not ever ok to consent to choking someone or someone choking you.
It's not a kink, it's so far beyond that and will soon be a crime in the UK too.

This drives me absolutely bonkers and I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's noticed it. Some of us live in flats! In cities! Voluntarily!

Another thing I found shocking was the thread where someone who said hungover parents ordering take-aways for their kids on Sunday instead of cooking a roast dinner was neglect and that social services should be called.

Unfortunately, you can easily get food poisoning from something that smells/looks fine, but is past its use by date.

CatMadam · 19/12/2023 18:11

@Boomboom22 its not a myth though. I enjoy both giving and receiving a bit of choking on occasion sometimes :) No need to police other peoples’ kinks just because you don’t like them!

I can personally attest that that is not a myth. I'm unsure why you reported her comment, there was nothing inappropriate about it 🤔 people like you are the reason some Mumsnet threads have half the comments deleted. Makes for shitty reading

DemBonesDemBones · 19/12/2023 18:29

@CatMadam bless you.

SpaghettiSauceOnTheCarpet · 19/12/2023 18:39

There was a post a few years ago asking whether it was right or not to intervene as a woman smacked her 3 year old across the back of the head and dragged them up the road screaming at them all the way. I was genuinely upset at the amount of people saying mind your own business, don’t get involved and “mum might have had a bad day, you don’t know”. It shocked me. It just made me realise why child abuse is so prevalent and so many awful things happen to children.

Boomboom22 · 19/12/2023 18:41

Leah, you saying these things allows men to use this as a defence. And I don't believe it is true, it is a worrying red flag. Any man willing to do it is very strange. It should turn him off!

You are aware theres a difference between your OPINION and fact right and that you in fact do NOT speak for ALL women in existence.

The only offensive thing here is a woman telling another woman she doesn't know her own mind and so should be silenced... thats controlling, disgusting and a hold over of patronizing sexist views from the patriarch used to undermine women by 'telling' them they are 'wrong' about their OWN experience.

The only offensive and disgusting thing is women promoting abuse like choking proudly. It is wrong. There is no argument about consent or kinks that can make playing murder ok. Ever.
