I'm just drinking my first cuppa & eating breakfast, in my kitchen spot. The only noise is the fridge humming away to itself and the boiler - bliss 😊

The girls will be up shortly though. They're off Christmas shopping for me, together...could be interesting! I've given them a small list of things to pick up too but it doesn't matter if they don't get those things.

I'm going to spend the day finishing off my current set of peg people, and doing some festive baking 😋 Mince pies, stollen, and a something else but not sure what yet. I'll maybe put the marzipan on my dad's Christmas cake too.

Dd2 has maths homework she wants me to look at with her, so we'll do that when they get in. And I'll suggest to dd1 that she maybe starts her homework over this week - it's due after Christmas - so that it's out of the way & she doesn't need to think about it for 2 weeks.

There's a large-ish joint of pork in the slow cooker for tea. Not sure what we'll have with it but maybe not a roast this week. I'll see what the girls fancy.

Later on, early showers, write the few Christmas cards I want for work, and then a nice early night ready for the last week at school 💤💤

What about all of you? 🎅

Morning. DH has just left for work. DS is having a lie in. He is knackered after his Nat 5 Prelims so I’ll leave him be. I’m back in bed with a coffee surfing the net. I’ll get up in a bit and do some tidying up. Bathroom needs a clean and then I am going to watch a Christmas movie and chill for the rest of the day. I’ve got a bit of a cold so can’t be bothered doing much. Thankfully did food shopping and cooking etc yesterday.

DeadbeatYoda · 17/12/2023 08:38

Bluewater, Christmas shopping.
Try to do something about the state of my house.
Rake the leaves from the path
Die quietly in the corner of the sofa from the sinusitis I've been nursing for three days now.
Cook a roast
In no oarticular order

DilemmaDelilah · 17/12/2023 08:40

Good morning @lucysmam . I don't have anything planned for today apart from a bit of light housework. I tired myself out by visiting both Lidl AND Aldi yesterday (I have cancer) so I'm glad of a day off 😁. I might get on with my Lego bouquet later on.
My lovely DH is cooking us roast pork for this evening, which I am looking forward to.

Good morning @lucysmam
About to get up and make tea for dh and I. I will take dd1 to the gym, drop her off, go for my nail appointment, then pick her up.
Quick lunch then we are all going to London for a mooch around coal drops yard before we go and see A Christmas Carol at the theatre. So in theory a lovely Christmassy day, but I'm still feeling a bit rubbish, and DSS1's behaviour yesterday was pretty awful which has left dh and I a bit fed up with him-so we'll see how it goes. I took him for a walk
Last night and we had a long chat about it all. Fingers crossed it will have worked! 11 is a weird age I think and he's certainly testing boundaries.

twistyizzy · 17/12/2023 08:41

Morning!
Quick coffee and then off to last dog training of 2023! They are getting a Christmas treat as we have partridge and duck instead of usual pheasant. These will hype them up as much as giving DC a massive bowl of skittles so should be fun.
Then home to finish decorating house and put decorations boxes back up in loft. Hectic final week at school means DD didn't surface until 11am yesterday and I'm anticipating the same today. Hopefully by tomorrow she will be feeling more human and we can get her out of the house!
Horses staying in today due to vile weather so will have to do a 2nd muck out tonight and a quick leg stretch in the arena.

Humanswarm · 17/12/2023 08:41

Sounds a lovely peaceful day OP. Enjoy!
Today, I'm the first up. DP and DD are still in bed as DD worked last night.
When they both show their faces we'll have breakfast and then we're going to a NT house to see their Christmas displays. Each room has a different Christmas theme and DD is very excited to go. I had told her we wouldn't have time this year as each day seemed to have something else on. But we surprised her in work last night and told her we'd go today!
Then home to wrap the last of the presents. We have soup and crusty rolls for tea later. And maybe a Christmas film..
Enjoy your Sundays everyone!

I am so, so happy! Just sitting in my dressing gown, drinking coffee and contemplating a day of doing nothing.

For the last term I have been working 100 miles away from home, in a boarding school....they broke up on Friday and I arrived home last night. I took the job because I need the fantastic pay they offered me, but inside I hate it. I hate being in a town (I normally live in beautiful countryside), I hate the bustle and noise, the constant demands of the students, the being woken up at all times during the night when on night duty.

Last night was the first decent night's sleep I've had since September!! And it's beautifully quiet here, no-one has demanded anything and I can go shopping, see family and friends over Christmas and pretend I'm retired - until January.

I have promised the job 1 year of my time and then I shall retire completely. But today I am just so happy at being able to do nothing at all....

Collecting last minute presents from Argos
Waitrose.
Putting up the Christmas tree (ds has been away for the last week)
Putting up the gable lights
Wrapping
Making mince pies

Maybe a bit of gardening if I get time.

PatienceOfEngels · 17/12/2023 08:45

Going for a walk with DC and then helping them with lego.

DH is cooking today.

Prepping work for tomorrow

Silverstoat · 17/12/2023 08:45

Good morning mumsnet!

I posted on yesterday's thread about how worried I was about ds7's birthday party. It was a success! He had 10 little friends there. They all loved the party and ds got through it with only a minor wobble. The only downside is I now want a pet armadillo because how cute is this guy? 😍

Good Morning Mumsnet! What are you all up to today?

Goung to do a list of everything I still need to do/ buy before Christmas

Notsokeeny · 17/12/2023 08:53

Morning!
op am dying to know what are your peg people? Are they peg dolls? Need to know!
I’ve a busy day finishing orders for my side hustle, which has gone surprisingly well and has received all sorts of lovely comments, so I’m very pleased. DS out, DH keen to see the footy. Bliss!
am amazed at how calm and organized you all are. Lesson to be learnt!

Thislittlekitten · 17/12/2023 08:53

Morning @lucysmam. I’m so happy to hear the party went well @Silverstoat. I’m always so more stressed out for kids parties than I was for my own wedding!! Also I have held an armadillo and they are surprisingly lovely.

Up early today. Last day of sports clubs until January thankfully.

A nice visit to a garden centre Christmas shop planned today.

Slow cooker curry on and smells delish.

I work in hospitality so gearing up for a mega busy week.

Iamnotaloggrip · 17/12/2023 08:55

Ah, Silverstoat, I’m so glad it went well. And that armadillo is lovely!

Quiet day here. Everyone else is still in bed after two late nights in a row.

Ds has football later this morning , dd has dance and homework to do. I need to get some more presents wrapped and think about marzipanning the cake.

Not sure about tea yet, will either see what’s in the freezer or nip out and buy something - we haven’t had a roast for a couple of weeks so maybe I’ll do one today.

Have a lovely day everyone!

TheBirdintheCave · 17/12/2023 08:56

Supposed to be getting ready to go to a National Trust place to meet PILs to exchange Christmas presents. Three year old is very excited. I haven't even got in the shower yet 😂

nokidshere · 17/12/2023 09:00

I'm up much earlier than usual as I'm going with my friend to do some measuring at her new house.

I've put a wash on and had coffee. Later I'm making a roast dinner because DS2 is home from uni and he's the only other person apart from me in the house who likes a roast.

Then later this evening I'm going to watch the strictly final and wrap Christmas presents.

lucysmam · 17/12/2023 09:01

@Silverstoat so pleased to read your ds's party went well!

@Notsokeeny I'll attach a photo. I usually do a set for the season, so we have Christmas ones in class atm, but they'll change to winter (Inuit people & arctic animals were requested). And then a set for whatever book we're reading so the children can re-tell the story. My current ones are a kids footy team for a colleague's son's team.

Good Morning Mumsnet! What are you all up to today?

Morning!
Just getting ready to go out to visit our local stately home that's been decorated for Christmas. Dd won't be joining us. She's 16, three months into a mechanics apprenticeship and had her very first works Xmas do last night. She messaged me at 11 to say if she could get in a club could she stay out, she was safe and had a lift home. Reluctantly agreed. She rolled in at 2am. I've had little sleep.
Been out with the sausage dog- 2 miles and a beautiful sunrise.

itsgettingweird · 17/12/2023 09:05

Good morning.

I broke up from school Friday.

Was going to put Christmas tree up yesterday but didn't.

Have plans to do it today instead.

Have cleaned kitchen and hoovered and am cleaning bathrooms in a bit.

Really need to do the tree though 🤦‍♀️😂

itsgettingweird · 17/12/2023 09:06

Oh and I wrapped the Christmas presents yesterday so that's one Christmas job I did do!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/12/2023 09:06

Morning everyone! @lucysmam they're awesome! I'm in bed contemplating the week coming at work. I'm off on Tuesday and colleague off Wednesday until 27th. We're in cash apps and it's our year end 31st dec so we are going to be really busy 😕
Aside from that I need to do a bit of shopping. Got to find dsil1 a secret Santa present and my mum a handbag. Will also try and get my backside to the gym later. We went to blists hill yesterday for Xmas and santas grotto etc which was lovely. DD is feeling under the weather as well

Good morning mumsnet, I’m just about to make a stew for tea and then plan on a quiet day. Last night was the in-laws in-laws (not a typo) Christmas party where they have an open house and welcome everyone they know even vaguely, lovely people. So just relaxing after that. I need to write my Christmas cards to post and probably the ones for the neighbours, then dd can pretend to be a postman and put them through all the doors.
Love your peg people @lucysmam
