I'm having a little sherry...

...a Harvey's Bristol Cream no less. I'm transported to my gran's sitting room circa 1978. It's delicious.

What drink transports you back to the past?

malibu

ThomasinaLivesHere · 16/12/2023 17:30

Tequila - I used to drink it as a student although I’ve not had it in ages but I imagine it would have that effect.

Vettrianofan · 16/12/2023 17:31

Sherry does take you back...reminds me of my granny.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/12/2023 17:32

I bought it to make a trifle but I had to test it first obvs. It's feels like a very genteel drink in a teeny tiny glass

Love a tequila but not had it for a long time. I've had some interesting evenings drinking it!

Same @Nomorecoconutboosts Malibu. Or Pernod and blackcurrant.
Couldn’t face it now far too sweet

Tighginn · 16/12/2023 17:34

How I have missed a mn drunk thread...missing the point?

GordoStevensMustache · 16/12/2023 17:34

Babycham, that was my grandma's drink 🍸

Nomorecoconutboosts · 16/12/2023 17:35

@Tlolljs
I bought one in a can to reminisce
it was like golden syrup (I exaggerate!)
I drink very dry drinks now, Sauvignon, Cava, normal gin, Malbec

Loved a Babycham. New Years day at my grans for that one. My other gran, not the sherry gran!

We've had a cupboard full of half used bottles for years, some inherited from my parents' house, so I've recently been finding uses for them. The whisky, cognac and Tia Maria have been making their way into my evening hot chocolate.😋 I do have a small amount of sherry, so was thinking of a trifle, but maybe you've inspired me to drink it instead. 😁

I also have a couple of unopened bottles of port - can't even remember where they came from!

Teeny tiny glass 🤣
this did make me laugh, I’ve always drunk it from a pint glass 🫣🤣

Im sat here with a baileys in hot chocolate reminds me of Christmas with my gran

CharmedCult · 16/12/2023 17:37

I love a little sherry, especially on a Sunday while I’m cooking a roast dinner. I have a little collection of random sherry glasses that I buy in charity shops.

lesdeluges · 16/12/2023 17:37

Anyone remember Advocaat, my late mum had her one and only drink on Christmas Day and I think it was called a Snowball, kind of yellowy with foam on the top?

Anyway, you have just brought back lovely memories for me. I don't drink myself but I do love the aroma of Brandy for some reason!

gocompare · 16/12/2023 17:37

Taboo and lemonade

Oh yes. Advocat and lemonade. Delicious.

My gran drank brandy and babycham.

HelenFisksBrownSuit · 16/12/2023 17:39

Sherry is a very underrated drink. We love the pudding-in-a-glass that is Pedro Ximenez Triana. Coop do a version.

We drink port too. It's like the 1970s in our house.

Projectme · 16/12/2023 17:40

Cinzano and lemonade. My DM always used to have one of these at Christmas. Never any other time of year mind!

Advocaat and lemonade makes a snowball - yes, very festive and kinda retro!

I bought a bottle a couple of years ago to make a stupid Waitrose trifle that needed about a tablespoon. Think it's still in the cupboard...

growingonmyass · 16/12/2023 17:41

Omg that's made me want one too OP. My Nan used to drink it and I kept her little sherry glasses after she died. I might have one now 😊

Jackiebrambles · 16/12/2023 17:41

@InefficientProcess i was just coming on to say brandy and babycham - that was my Gran’s drink. My Nana loved a bitter lemon, do they still make that?!

RallySooney · 16/12/2023 17:42

A Snowball, made up of Advocaat and lemonade. My first cocktail ( it was the 70's) aged thirteen at my aunties house on St.Stephen's Day (Boxing Day)

Tistheseason23 · 16/12/2023 17:42

Ooh I love a small sherry or a glass of port. I only drink them at Christmas for some reason.

Martini is the drink that reminds of back in the day.

Splendidsunbird · 16/12/2023 17:42

Blue Nun wine, my parents always drank it
