A pre-festivities sharpener of Mornington Crescent?

Unfortunately I was absent for the thrilling climax to the game yesterday, and offer belated congratulations to LlynTegid. It's not often you see that move deployed with such laser-like accuracy.
A last hurrah before we all disperse for our traditional mid-winter break? (I'm for the Canaries this year with the curate and his new-ish special friend, a dear young man).
I'll start us off with a good invigorating Hudson's Cast: Goodge Street.

And always best not to mention Moulin Rouge, frankly. They say the torrid incident involving the cultural attaché on opening night was merely a misunderstanding, but many people still hold a grudge.

White City

Mysterian · 02/05/2024 18:55

Just here spectating. Still wary after the incident that ended my last game. Who knew that the beak of a Canadian goose fired at that speed could pierce the bodywork of a hearse?

MarkWithaC · 02/05/2024 19:01

The cultural attaché (if we're talking about the same personage) does have a rep for being a little... highly strung.

Welcome, Mysterian, and I did hear about that (it was Torquay last autumn/winter rounds, no?)
We're a friendly bunch here, and we don't judge; I do hope you feel ready to put in your stake, as it were, at some point.

I'm going to try a Circular Mift, which I haven't played in quite some time, but which is strongly suggesting itself, to Wanstead.

This is getting complicated, but complicated is what I like best.

Upney

MarkWithaC · 03/05/2024 12:56

If you like complicated, Maud, you should ask the dog-walker, the florist, or the retired butler (the Ponsonbys' as was) about what they all refer to only as 'our Wednesdays'.

Turnham Green (using the additional Eleventh I gained in the last round.)

Oh that? That was a hoax perpetuated by the captain of the lacrosse team, to deflect attention from the furore over her deployment of a reverse Winthrop on the Central line. They still talk about it at the club.

HazelBite · 03/05/2024 23:25

Too much reminiscing going on here, I am perturbed to learn that Mornington Crescent station has been closed of late, so I must try and think outside the box so I'm going to Lancaster Gate

LlynTegid · 04/05/2024 09:19

Interesting use of the Central line in recent moves which given the shortage of trains makes my next move more difficult.

Reversing sharply as per the 1977 addition to the rules I get to Oxford Circus and then south to Vauxhall.

DuckonaBike · 04/05/2024 13:16

Smart move, Llyn. In view of the bank holiday weekend I don’t think the Victoria line is binding, so I’m going to make an incremental to West Brompton

MarkWithaC · 07/05/2024 16:10

Some would have you believe that, Maud, but if you ask the door steward from the night in question (she can be hard to track down, but a bottle of Courvoisier helps greatly) she will tell you that there's quite a question mark over whether a reverse Winthrop even featured. The captain of the lacrosse team is close buddies with said florist...

OK!

I'm keeping it simple, doubling up as allowed by that Vauxhall move and going to Temple.

Oh dear, dear Mark. You’ve fallen for the official version, hook line and sinker, haven’t you? Let’s move swiftly on to

Redbridge

MarkWithaC · 08/05/2024 08:08

Au contraire, the official version is the one that holds that the dog-walker is a dahlia enthusiast and the retired butler simply enjoys keeping his hand in.

So to speak.

Some tricky manoeuvres here, I have pondered for a while and I'm coming in with a left rondelle to "Turnpike Lane"

MarkWithaC · 08/05/2024 16:29

Well played! It takes steady hand to make a rondelle really work, especially when the margins are as narrow as this.

I was thinking of trying something new, but given the upswing that move has caused, I'm going to keep it classic and use an Epsom square to take us to Perivale.

Going out west on a sunny day seems a sensible idea. Not sure about dog walkers, though on my train this morning I disappointed a dog who saw me and thought I might have doggy treats.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 08/05/2024 19:13

Good evening, I would very much like to join the game. I have submitted my application in triplicate to the committee as per section 27, subsection 3a of the newcomers procedure, completed in black ink of course. I am still very much a novice, but hope to sharpen my skills by playing with such an elite group. If there is a committee member currently playing, perhaps they could let me know if my application has been approved (and if the bottle of Glenfiddich enclosed with the application was well received).

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/05/2024 20:43

Welcome, Itisallgoingtobeok. I can confirm that your bribe contribution to the social fund has enabled the membership committee to expedite your application and shred the less than glowing testimonial from the Permanent Secretary and so you are free to play your first move.

Ill pave the way with a demi-shunt to

Russell Square

LlynTegid · 09/05/2024 07:01

@itsallgoingtobeok welcome, glad to read you submitted a valid application.

Holloway Road

Itisallgoingtobeok · 09/05/2024 10:31

@ComeIntoTheGardenMaud and @LlynTegid - thank you for the warm welcome.

I will attempt a diagonal transition to Tufnell Park.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/05/2024 10:35

Ooh! Nicely done. I think my best option now (not necessarily the safest, but the best) is

Angel

DuckonaBike · 09/05/2024 16:49

Jolly good, Maud. I’m going to keep in parallel with West Hampstead.

LlynTegid · 09/05/2024 16:52

Using the London Overground rule I move to Gospel Oak.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/05/2024 17:20

I may get an attack of the vapours if I spend too long in the north of the metropolis, so I’m heading for the hallowed ground of the

Oval

MarkWithaC · 09/05/2024 19:43

Welcome, itisall!

Thanks @MarkWithaC! I'm still not entirely clear on the 1983 double purple ruling, but think it might be applicable here, so will go for...
