Wtf is going wrong?

Coolstorysis · 12/12/2023 17:32

We live on a council estate, Me and two boys. We are subject to nightly harassment from "youths". Kicking doors, tipping bins and what not. The other night a 3 foot solid bar came through my window.

Been harassed going to the shop, throwing things at us etc. Police very nice but useless, housing association pretty much the same. We are quiet, kids don't go out obviously, wtaf are we supposed to do?

The kids around here seem to be actual psychopaths, the authorities seem to offer sympathy but nothing else. I can't afford to move obviously, I'm so depressed.

Contact your MP!!

Coolstorysis · 12/12/2023 17:36

Will that help? I can't imagine what an mp could do?

I'm really sorry to hear that but I have a friend who was recently in a similar position. Complain officially to the housing agency ask for a reply confirming they will take action to stop the harrasment. Phone 999 every time you feel under threat emphasising you are a woman with children. The thing that really got some results was when she emailed her MP who then took up the case with the police and housing agency on her behalf

Elderflower14 · 12/12/2023 17:39

Your MP should be able to get something done... Have you got evidence of who you have contacted already??

Coolstorysis · 12/12/2023 17:43

The people I contact don't seem to care unless I know the names of the people doing it?? It just seems like another Tuesday to them unless something more egregious happens. It's making me ill.

Yep. When an MP gets involved, your case will usually be moved to the top of the queue.

saveforthat · 12/12/2023 17:46

Also the housing agency should install a ring doorbell which detects movement and can be used in evidence.

Coolstorysis · 12/12/2023 17:47

It seems when I talked to the housing officer that they know who are doing the antisocial behaviour but have no actual tools to deal with it.

Sirzy · 12/12/2023 17:47

Can you afford a ring door bell or similar to film the incidents? May help with finding who it is.

but I agree make sure everything is reported every time. Are neighbours having the same issue or is it targeted?

Eekmystro · 12/12/2023 17:49

Oh op I’m so sorry! This sounds horrendous. I wonder about going to the MP too, maybe they can support a move? Can you get a transfer to a new home on the council?

What action have the police taken so far?

Coolstorysis · 12/12/2023 17:49

Very targeted. My kids don't speak with the local accent, my older boy is gay and we are poor "scruffy in local language".

If you think it’s homophobic abuse make sure you report it as such.

Can't offer any advice but I'm so sorry you're going through this. It must be so stressful. Our society is so broken.

Coolstorysis · 12/12/2023 17:55

I could put up with shit until the massive pole through my window. I hate the little cunts.

MP or local councillor. Or both. They usually have good contacts with the police and will know who to speak to. Look and see if the local police have any targets they are supposed to be meeting and whether you fit one. For example, our local plod have 'hate crime' as one of theirs. If one of their targets fits your case, point this out to MP, councillor, housing association and the police themselves.

It should go without saying, but this should not be happening, and you should not be expected to tolerate it.

BlueThursday · 12/12/2023 18:12

Local press too perhaps

its not a nice feeling to feel unsafe in your own home I’m sorry

Theunamedcat · 12/12/2023 18:13

The housing association absolutely can do something when my ex husband THREATENED to damage the house they contacted him and said they would get an asbo if he came near it he screamed his children lived there and "they couldn't stop him visiting" they said they absolutely could and would as the children could be collected from school or from the police station (close by) its their property they should be protecting it

SutWytTi · 12/12/2023 18:16

I am so sorry this is happening to you Flowers

Unfortunately you have to be really persistent.

How old are the children doing this? Can you get their names from anywhere and also start reporting to SS that they are out unattended etc.

I would report to:
Police - every time
Housing Association - every time
Councillor
MP
Then approach the relevant people to complain about the lack of action from the Police and HA.

closingdownsale · 12/12/2023 18:18

Just keep reporting to police, every single time! the one benefit that people who live on owner/occupier estates is that if you're neighbours really are that bad, they can be evicted to somewhere else!

It's a long process but I've done it myself

You're entitled to live your own life, don't put up with it

IncompleteSenten · 12/12/2023 18:22

I grew up on a really rough estate.
Don't call the police. People who haven't lived this life do not understand the reality of it. They think you can apply the rules and norms of their life.
You can't.
You'll just get your windows put through.

They do not stop.
They are not afraid of the police.
They will attack you if you cross them.

When I was a kid we had our windows put through many times. One time the council van hadn't even got to the end of the road after fixing it and it was put through again.

My family cat was skinned alive.
My neighbours pets were nailed to the floor of their outdoor hutch

You do not. Ever. Fuck with these people unless you are one of them.

You are in housing association property? Beg and plead for a move. Get GP to support you that it's destroying your mental health. Talk about the hate crime element of it as a reason they need to help you.

I'm sure I'll get hate for this post and lots of 'op shouldn't have to.." and while it is true that people should be decent and you shouldn't have to be the one to fight to go, no amount of should/shouldn't have to stops your pets being murdered, your windows being smashed and lit fireworks put through your door in the middle of the night.

Coolstorysis · 12/12/2023 18:31

Blimey @IncompleteSenten someone who understands. I asked about a move and they just said about the online thing, pissing in the wind.

Gawd about the pets

Fucking hell. I've by no means had a sheltered life but my jaw dropped reading this.
