Anyone else crazy about Stilton cheese?

Bought a chunk of Stilton for a bit of a do last weekend. There was about 150g left. Today, little bit by little bit, I've finished most of it off. Just couldn't stop myself. It's the only Christmas food I can't resist. Christmas pudding, pigs in blankets, trifle, chocolate — not bothered. But stinky Stilton...

Stilton and Roquefort open it and I've eaten it

Sharpkat · 11/12/2023 20:48

Absolutely adore it! My uncle used to inject the blue into it at the Tuxford and Tebbutt factory. We used to get one the size of a car tyre for Christmas. Amazing stuff.

SM4713 · 11/12/2023 20:49

I like it on crackers with membrillo and port, or in a fig or pear salad. Not sure I could just sit there and eat a huge wedge of it in one sitting on its own though.

For the Christmas period I’ve just taken delivery of a kilogram of Stichelton (unpasteurised version of Stilton) for my sole consumption …

NoCloudsAllowed · 11/12/2023 20:56

Phwoar, you're speaking my language op!

Yabu for saying Stilton is a Christmas food though. It's a good for all seasons. Stilton and broccoli soup is a good way of using bits that go a bit manky.

Yep I love broccoli and Stilton soup

Raisinsandweetabix · 11/12/2023 21:00

It's the best, but I find it highly addictive so I'm waiting to buy a small wedge for Christmas week only

QueSyrahSyrah · 11/12/2023 21:01

I love it, but the jury NHS seems undecided whether it's ok to eat it cold in pregnancy so I haven't, yet. DH made us broccoli and Stilton soup tonight so I could get my fix Grin

Bubbles254 · 11/12/2023 21:04

Roquefort is so addictive. I have it for breakfast every morning. Also there is now research saying that the French paradox (their longer lives despite high fat food etc) is now down to raw milk cheeses rather than red wine which gives me an excuse to eat even more!

Tulipsroses · 11/12/2023 21:19

Saint Agur for me! I can finish the whole pack in one go.

Gilead · 11/12/2023 21:42

Tesco had some for 3.50 the other day. It was about half the size of a dinner plate. Buggers here have hidden it from me!

Oldraver · 11/12/2023 21:45

I do like Stilton but some of it is rank. The one that seems to be around at Christmas in the pottery jar is very harsh.

Black stick blue I think is much nicer

Bernardmanning · 11/12/2023 21:49

I was sent a potted stilton by The Fine Cheese Company. Oh my goodness, I have never tasted anything so wonderful. I ate it in 2 days with a spoon. I think that you need to order some. I also get a fantastic Roquefort from a local deli and I am in absolute heaven.

Aparecium · 11/12/2023 21:50

Gently lever off the lids of mince pies (preferably home-made, so that the lids are crisp, not soft and crumbly), replace the lids and warm the mince pies up in the oven. Warm, not hot. Then lift the lids and slip a little piece of cheese inside. Blue Stilton, Wensleydale, white Stilton, or any crumbly cheese.

Mmmmmmmm 😋

(BTW OP I don't see anything wrong, or unreasonable, or even unusual in your relationship with Blue Stilton.)

Bernardmanning · 11/12/2023 21:51

Heaven. Absolutely worth it. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Mum2jenny · 11/12/2023 21:52

Colston Bassett is the only Stilton worth eating imo, preferably fresh from the dairy.

googledidnthelp · 11/12/2023 21:52

Yup. If you've never added it to spag bol give it a try for a taste sensation!

Notcookie · 11/12/2023 22:06

Digestive biscuit, Stilton and cranberry sauce. And a glass of port. Best Christmas "meal".

You just reminded me that I have a Danish blue cheese in the fridge that I haven’t cracked open yet!

MyNanSaid · 11/12/2023 23:19

Can't wait until we get our Christmas cheese in. Been on a diet since July so only had small amounts of cheese spread since then but we've promised ourselves Stilton over Christmas!

caringcarer · 11/12/2023 23:37

I absolutely love blue cheese but my gall bladder doesn't like it. I get raging gall stones flare up if I over indulge. I could cry I want it so much.

SingingSands · 11/12/2023 23:48

@Bernardmanning thank you for that! I'll be ordering one for myself dad and one (or probably two) for myself.

P.S. your user name has reminded me of an awful dream I had once where I was the object of Bernard Manning's "affections" - was most likely a cheese dream. Was so horrible I still cringe at remembering it 😬

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 11/12/2023 23:55

I could demolish a stilton in one sitting. Sadly, DS also loves it, so we have a bit of fisticuffs whenever there's blue cheese in the house.

Also, broccoli & stilton soup is for heathens. Celery & stilton is soooooo much better.

One of my best mates said to me when he started looking at dating sites 'The thing is, you never know how compatible you are with someone until you've seen them attack a cheese board.'

piscofrisco · 12/12/2023 07:35

I like it melted over leeks on a frying pan. Phenomenal.

Mykittensmittens · 12/12/2023 07:41

Stilton and pear on pizza, we are doing this for friends Boxing Day in the outdoor pizza oven so hoping all the recent biblical rain stops!! (Plus Brie and cranberry too - another must).

Blue cheese pizza is just sublime.
