Parking in Leeds

DCIJackieDeering · 11/12/2023 14:43

Sorry this is a bit dull! We’re coming to Leeds for an event on Friday. Our hotel is near the station is has limited parking, but I’ve been told the middle of Leeds is a nightmare with parking. Any good parking ideas? We’ll be coming up the A1 then across on the M62. One option is Stourton Park and Ride, any other suggestions? otherwise I was trying to work out if there was a local station somewhere close to the M62

We need to head of quickly in the morning to get home.

It is virtually impossible to get into the centre of Leeds now. Stourton park and ride is an excellent idea and £4 return per person and is only a ten minute journey into the city. Other places are the Trinity and John Lewis car parks.

Dodgyguts · 11/12/2023 14:59

I'd say Trinity shopping centre car park is your best bet. It's a bit of an arse to get to but it's near the station and used to do cheaper late night rates.

The roads and access seem to change on a weekly basis in the centre so make sure your sat nav is up-to-date!

BloodyAdultDC · 11/12/2023 15:24

Park at Garforth!

boozeclues · 11/12/2023 15:27

The trains have been really unreliable in Leeds recently, from strikes to flooding etc. I would either do Stourton Park and ride or Elland road, both just off the M621

BloodyAdultDC · 11/12/2023 15:29

I wouldn't leave my car overnight at either of th P&R sites, sorry OP.

Comefromaway · 11/12/2023 15:35

My husband works in Leeds 3 days a week and my son is at uni there.

It is a nightmare driving at the moment. We usually park at The Markets car park mostly because it's closer to ds's uni but to be closer to the station I'd use Trinity.

lolosandals · 11/12/2023 16:00

Stourton if daytime but would not leave it overnight.

I would leave car in Garforth (Leeds) or Outwood (Wakefield) train station car park. Both free. No CCTV at either and not guaranteed to be secure but both relatively decent areas. Outwood is only a 10 min train ride to Leeds and one stop so I’d favour that, and trains are every half an hour.

lolosandals · 11/12/2023 16:01

Or as someone else has said, trinity car park. But you’ll be really lucky to get a decent space that’s not on the very very top level of the multi storey. Leeds at this time of year is NOT fun!

TeacherPlease · 11/12/2023 16:05

I’d park in Trinity car park. It’s not that hard to get to if you come into the city centre from M621 J3.

There is also a Q Park opposite if you find Trinity is full, but it is expensive!

I regularly drive into Leeds (weekly) and much prefer it to trying to tackle the very unreliable trains and often delayed buses - but work pay for my parking so I don’t need to worry about cost!

dwgs · 11/12/2023 16:07

I parked in Leeds on Saturday. Albion Street Qpark. Prebook online. Easy Peasy

judgedreadful · 11/12/2023 16:07

Use the app JustPark and search for spots in Leeds. I've pre booked parking for next weekend.

DCIJackieDeering · 11/12/2023 16:10

Thanks, we’d need to leave the car overnight, so caution noted. Also worried about the height restrictions at Trinity (stupid 4x4). wondering if it would be easier to move our hotel to the Premier Inn at Elland Rd and get a cab into the middle and after the event (guessing about 1030). How easy is it get a cab or Uber?

Extremely easy to get an Uber or a bus. I’d do this tbh. It shouldn’t be too expensive from there.

CitiPark at Leeds Dock is a bit cheaper than the city centre car parks, and open 24 hrs. It's about a twenty min walk to the station, or you could get the water taxi from next to The Royal Armouries to the back entrance of the station for £1.

Or park at Wakefield Westgate (Merchantgate car park, right next to the station) and get the train to Leeds (13 mins, frequently). I often leave my car in that car park for a few days and it's fine. Just make sure you park in a green zone.

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 11/12/2023 17:51

I echo citipark at the dock. My son lives in an apartment over the river and I use it all the time.I feel very safe parking there.

Comefromaway · 11/12/2023 20:43

I’m staying at the premier inn by the arena on Saturday and will be parking at the car park near there.

Littlegoth · 11/12/2023 20:45

Another vote for Leeds dock and water taxi. I work by the train station and that’s where I park.

FawnFrenchieMum · 11/12/2023 20:46

If your parking in Leeds Dock, you could move hotels to the holiday inn at the Dock.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/12/2023 20:49

@Comefromaway DD is staying in uni accommodation right by the arena and there's a multistorey right opposite her on Merrion Road.

I'm also going up, but by train as I didn't want to drive and also staying at the Premier inn by the arena. :)

DCIJackieDeering · 11/12/2023 21:06

Premier inn by the arena would be ideal, but it’s full. I don’t really want to take the car up to the Merrion Centre area as that will be a pain for the morning. I’ll have a look at the dock holiday inn and see if they have availability

Park at the train station? Multi story car park I always get a space - but it’s about £40 for an overnight so not cheap! You can pre book https://prebook.apcoa.co.uk/carpark/location/leeds-station-parking/145

Stringagal · 11/12/2023 21:27

Trinity or Victoria car parks (and probably most others) do an overnight rate after 5pm, but charges kick in early in the morning. What time are you leaving?

Leeds is a bugger to drive into at the moment though (remodelling of train station and city square) total nightmare.

DCIJackieDeering · 11/12/2023 21:33

We’ll be arriving about 3ish on Friday and leaving about 10 on Saturday. Increasingly tempted by the Elland Rd and getting taxi idea.

Plaza?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/12/2023 21:40

DD is in the White Rose centre, over the road from the Merrion shopping centre (and multistorey). The Premier inn have it listed as Leeds City Centre (Arena) which is over the road from the First Direct Arena.
