Does your Alexa ever go weird

Honestly mine acts as if it's haunted. I keep it on most evenings for white noise and every so often, like maybe every 4 weeks it starts making these weird distorted noises almost as if someone is trying to talk through it. Lasts about ten minutes then stops. Feel like sprinkling some holy water on it! The power of Christ compels you, Alexa! It sometimes boops in the middle of the night too as if it's heard someone talking to it, but nobody has.

Haunted.

beastlyslumber · 10/12/2023 00:21

Definitely haunted.

OutOfOrder67 · 10/12/2023 00:21

Mine woke me up at 4am with my usual radio station - there was absolutely no reason for it; no reminders, no voice commands or planned scheduled actions.

I was fuming lol

YoongiMarryMe · 10/12/2023 00:24

Mine sometime's boops when it has a notification to read out.

Terfosaurus · 10/12/2023 00:27

When you say it 'boops' is it the noise it makes when you change the volume?
Mine does that sometimes when my son is changing the volume on his one in his room. Fuck knows why. And highly annoying when I've put on an audiobook/pink noise to fall asleep. Then suddenly "boop boop" and the volume is wrong.

I told mine to shut up once and she then stopped listening to me until I apologized.

stayathomer · 10/12/2023 00:28

Is it picking up something like a baby monitor or radio station? Is that even possible?

PersonWithInternalGonads · 10/12/2023 00:36

We've got one that refuses to do anything if you ask it directly, but will do routines/broadcasts/timers etc if I set them up via my phone. But otherwise it will not acknowledge me. It did, for about a week, then took offence and now I'm dead to it. All the settings are the same as the other Alexa, and I didn't change anything.

No way?
That's hilarious

Mine chats shit all the time and interrupts me when I’m talking; and not to her. Told her to shut up and she just went “RUDE!”

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 10/12/2023 01:19

I say please and thank you to Alexa more often now because she's being weird and I worry what she will do when I'm sleeping 👀 She randomly twitters on interrupting conversations where nobody has uttered her name or even a word like it. Ds was upset one night because we asked her something about Christmas and she replied that x billion people a day die. I was shocked by the number but ds is a sensitive soul and started worrying about people dying.
The one in my bedroom says there's a router problem at least twice a day and does my head in. There's no router issue and the other devices are working fine. She obviously objects ti country in the bedroom in the morning. Not in the kitchen or ds's bedroom, just mine.

Mine had a hissy fit last week, I had the blue ring of death for 2 days but I could use the app to turn things on/off.

My carer came round, borrowed my phone, insists he did nothing to the app but we got the green ring of set up and she is back to normal, well normal for her.

Leafysuburb · 10/12/2023 07:25

I once lay awake cursing the neighbours for having a party with thumping music at 3am. After 45 mins I stormed downstairs to go and complain...and realised it was our Alexa in the living room that had decided to play dance music at full volume. Thank goodness our neighbour is deaf!

DoIOrNot · 10/12/2023 07:26

Mines suddenly started saying random things a couple of times.
Sometimes acts as if she’s about to play my white noise when I ask her but just stays silent so I have to unplug her and plug her back in to reset.
The one downstairs had the light ring for hours the other day and wouldn’t respond. Unplugging her did nothing. I had to do a whole reset as if she was a new device to get her back to normal.

Ours woke us up in the middle of the night with facts about Glastonbury. I looked up what triggered it the next day: nothing.

Mine did this but in my bedroom. Scared the shit out of me. I turned it off, went back to sleep and it did it again 5 mins later!

The one in the kitchen is passive aggressive and doesn't listen. Hate it, but rely on it for music and timers 😨

Marmite27 · 10/12/2023 07:56

Mine answers questions no one has asked it.

it suddenly pipes up with things like ‘the sea would need to be xx temperature to boil’ or the correct way to cook something using the sous vide method is xxx’ really random shit.

grayhairdontcare · 10/12/2023 08:03

I regularly re set mine to factory settings . So she knows I have the power and won't tolerate her shit!

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 10/12/2023 08:14

My daughter has one in her room and her Alexa randomly plays JL everybody in love' when nobody is in her room. Always that song, I have to go upstairs and unplug her

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 10/12/2023 08:15

JLS* that should say

AM130674 · 10/12/2023 08:23

Mine has recently started calling me by my name when I ask her to set a timer. It wouldn't be weird if it was my account, it's my husbands and he swears he's done nothing to it?

DisforDarkChocolate · 10/12/2023 08:25

It's fond of not turning off when I ask it too and picking a book from Audible at random when I've asked it to play a specific one.

gotomomo · 10/12/2023 08:29

Mine is in the bedroom (the screen version) and she's started randomly talking in the evening whilst we are in the other room, go figure

Mombie · 10/12/2023 08:32

Yesssss.
I usually ask her to play gentle ‘prayer’ type music (specific to my culture) in the morning, whilst I’m getting breakfast and sorting things out. One day she flat out refused and said she didn’t know what I was asking her, even though she plays it every day. I had the WORST day ever and everything went wrong!
Since then, she plays the prayer music without being asked. I am sure she was possessed for a day.
