If your baby was 99th percentile - did they become big / tall as they grew up?

I don't care by the way I’m just curious!

my baby is 5.5 months and 99th percentile for weight and probably height but haven’t measured that! She is as big as some 1 year olds 😂

I was 6 weeks premature so not a good comparison but her Dad was a chubby baby apparently… we’re both slim and 5ft 6 / 5ft 11!

We both have short and tall genes in our family though, so she could end up being tall I suppose I just wonder if there’s any correlation?!

Not at birth because she was premature, but by 5 months DD3 was 99% and stayed there. She was always the tallest in her class. At 17 the boys have now overtaken her but she's still the tallest girl. Currently out playing basketball.

Our Dr said you can take the height at 2 years and double it. It was pretty accurate for all 3 of mine (Dd1 is a full head shorter than her sister)

Bookworm1111 · 09/12/2023 15:31

Not sure how much the percentiles actually translate as they get older. My DD was 6lb 13oz and barely reached the 25th – now 15, she's 5ft 8!

youdontneedtopoo · 09/12/2023 15:32

My DS was 96th percentile, he's 5 and wears size 7-8 clothes. Tall but solid build like his dad who's 6"2.

5yo born on 9th centile. Now tall and proportioned. Wears age 9 for height. So prob 99th now

weegiemum · 09/12/2023 16:00

Dh is 5'10" and I'm 5'8". Both on the big side.

Dd1 was 98th percentile, is now 5'9" and watches her weight as she doesn't want to end up obese like me.

Ds also 98th. He's 6'3" and skinny, he's desperately trying to put weight on for rugby!

Dd2 was only 75th. She's 5'5" and slim without trying.

Mathsstatsmaths · 09/12/2023 16:08

Me and DH are small to average (he’s 5’9 I’m 5’4). DS was over 99th centile at birth and I remember DH plotting this to adult height on the chart and saying oh he might be 6feet. I assumed he would just stop at some standard height, but no he was tallest in the class all through primary and most of secondary. He stopped at 6ft 5 inches. And gets very tired of the question where does your height come from? And no we don’t know either!

Bobbybobbins · 09/12/2023 16:17

My DS2 was 98th percentile for height, 75th for weight. At 8 he is very tall and also very solid.

TheCatterall · 09/12/2023 16:25

My eldest was on the 99th percentile.

weighed 8lb 11oz and was quite long. Became a lovely chubby toddler, growth slowed down a bit at primary school but he shot up at around 14 and by 16 he was 6’ 4” and size 14 shoes.

I’m 5’11 and dads 6’.

Lifelessonstoremember · 09/12/2023 16:27

No. Mine is petite now.

rickyrickygrimes · 09/12/2023 16:30

My 99th centile babies are 6 ft at 13 yrs old and 6 ft 2 “ at 15 yrs old 🤷‍♀️

Shangrilalala · 09/12/2023 16:31

DD was off the charts and is now 6’2 in her twenties. DS is taller than me at 14 (I’m 5’10) but he is yet to have his growth spurt.

We are athletic build but will pile on weight if we don’t exercise.

PinkyU · 09/12/2023 16:34

My youngest was on the 91st centile at birth and is now on the 2nd at almost 11 years.

Monsterjam · 09/12/2023 16:34

I’m not sure about percentiles but I had 10lb 8 oz and 9lb 12 oz babies and both are tallest in their school years. Neither me or their dad is tall. I’m 5ft 5 and he is 5ft 10.

Neveraga1n · 09/12/2023 16:36

Ds1 is now 19 and 6 foot 3, at 11 he was in size 15 clothes, he's always been big
Ds2 is now 17 ,5 foot 6, still wears size 15 clothes he's stuck thin.

coldcallerbaiter · 09/12/2023 16:40

All 3 of mine were 90s and so was I as a kid, did not grow super tall or fat in the end. all born big too over 9 pounds.

In 90s in red book until I stopped having them weighted and measured regularly aged 5

2 sons 6 ft ish and daughter 5’8

dd went through chubby primary school phase and now is super slim as a teen

ComfyBoobs · 09/12/2023 16:41

DS1 was an enormous baby - I think he weighed 2 stone at 6 months. The health visitor said he had the biggest thighs she’d ever seen on a baby in 30 years and that if he wasn’t EBF she’d tell me to put him on a diet.

He’s now 14 , 5ft 10 and skinny as a rake. His poky-out ribs really bother me! He’ll end up around 6ft 2 I reckon and slim (as he has been for years).

mumof1879 · 09/12/2023 16:43

My son was 99th for weight and height until about age 3 after being born 7lb8. He then slowed down and by the time he went to school was one of the smallest in height and about average in weight. He stayed small in height and dropped right down on weight too until about age twelve when he had a huge growth spurt and is now about average for height although still very low on weight.

duttypink · 09/12/2023 16:44

My son is 6ft 3 at 20, started getting tall around 14

MyNameIsErinQuin · 09/12/2023 16:45

16 and 6ft6, still growing. Neither me or DH are tall, 5’7 and 6’0

WhamBamThankU · 09/12/2023 16:49

All three of mine have remained tall. Eldest is almost 16 and has been 6' 4" for a few years

OctFeb · 09/12/2023 16:51

I had an enormous chubby baby, born at 9lb and well over 20lb at 4/5months. Back breaking!
He is now 8 and the tallest in his year, very slim. I’m 5’4 and his dad is 6’3. He is just like his Dad.

Aydel · 09/12/2023 16:56

DD1 was 99th centile. Now 5’8”.
DD2 was around 70th centile. Now 5’11”.

shivawn · 09/12/2023 16:58

I was 60cm at birth, I'm not sure where that falls on the percentile chart but I was a very tall baby anyway. I'm 5'6 now.

My 2 year old was 59cm at birth and now he's 99cm at 25 months so still very tall for his age but who knows where he'll level out. My husband was a big child, I don't know the exact heights but probably very similar to our son and he's now 5'11 so not very tall.

ArsetoChristmas · 09/12/2023 17:00

Eldest dd was over 99th centile for height and is 6'1 at 22.

ArsetoChristmas · 09/12/2023 17:00

MyNameIsErinQuin · 09/12/2023 16:45

16 and 6ft6, still growing. Neither me or DH are tall, 5’7 and 6’0

I hate to break it to you but you are both tall.
