What's your experience with Too Good To Go bags?

Ordered a couple of times from Greggs and wasn't that great. Both times got a sausage roll and a couple of cakes. Thought I'd try again tonight and got a Toby Carvery one tonight. That was rubbish as well, hardly got anything.

Have I just been really unlucky or are they just really not that good?

I've had four from Wenzels, 3 were great but one was awful. Lots of stale pastries and croissants.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 08/12/2023 22:30

Unless the food is bad/inedible I didn’t know you could get refunds?
if the vegan fillings were inedible as in mouldy or off then you probably could request a refund.
or was it just that they are not to your taste (generally not to mine depending on what they are. Naturally vegan such as roasted veggies are fine, but ‘no cluck chicken’ ‘fish less fish’ - no thanks!!)

SawX · 08/12/2023 22:32

Every time I ordered one it was cancelled by the shop. I uninstalled the app, waste of time.

Morrisons used to be good but have heard they’ve become a bit iffy!

Our local bakery chain are pretty good normally did me a few lunches for work!

It can be hit and miss but I’ve had some fabulous bags over the years!!

NecklessMumster · 08/12/2023 22:39

Best have been from two local bakeries, bread, posh croissants and cake. There is an m and s nearby but its a service station one and I was worried I'd just get old sandwiches.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 08/12/2023 22:42

@NecklessMumster
some of the service station ones have ready meals and small bakeries plus fruit - also aimed at people picking dinner or lunch up on the way home not just on the go so might be worth a try.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 08/12/2023 22:52

Generally good.

Randomly a patrol station was quite good - had salmon and steak form that. M&S garage had some really good ones few not so good.

Starbucks mixed. Morrisons can be amazing but not been the best for a while - not as much stuff as they used to be.

To Toby carvery roast was t bad. Really large run for about £2.99

Sushi ones have been good.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 08/12/2023 22:53

@MargaritaThyme I have had refunds a couple of times when they have been bad.

user6776 · 08/12/2023 22:56

Didn't get a Yorkshire or any gravy with my carvery so was pretty gutted about that 😂

Have tried two local Greggs. One gives out excellent bags and is usually consistent with what they give out. Normally get 4 sausage rolls. Bag of donuts or box of cakes. 3 or 4 savoury bakes and a couple of filled baguettes or rolls and a cold pasta meal.
The other Greggs was really poor in comparison. Two items I think.
Morrisons was rubbish.

Horriblewoman · 08/12/2023 23:08

From local small bakeries - great!

from bigger coffee chains not good. I really wish you could indicate vegetarian because the one I got from Starbucks was 80% meat and I gave it to someone who worked there and asked them if they wanted it
and just took the two pastries.

QueenOfHiraeth · 08/12/2023 23:10

I had one from a local supplier who sells sweets online, thinking I'll treat the kids and give some to the food bank but it was all rubbish. The chocolate was bloomed, Maltesers were soggy and some items were out of the outer packaging which made me suspect they were out of date rather than close to it.
Oh, and it was April and one item was an advent calendar!

Costacoffeeplease · 08/12/2023 23:35

Our local bakery is v good, a full box of cakes and pastries, local sushi is also v generous with 18-20 pieces for 5€, and a local farm where we’ve had several carrier bags of lovely tomatoes, peppers, courgettes, aubergines and melons, also 5€ (I’m not in the U.K.)

local hotel does a breakfast TGTG but it wasn’t brilliant

MentalMini · 09/12/2023 00:06

I managed to get my first Aldi bag tonight and it was a box filled with turkey steaks, lots of fruit and veg, cookies, 2 loaves, 2 packs of rolls and some other bits. Great value. The best one ever was for WHSmith £5 for easily £75 of christmas sweets 😀

OutOfSyncWithReality · 09/12/2023 00:54

It's hit and miss, it's just what they have left over. I don't usually bother any more although if Ole and Steen have a bag and I'm around I grab one because they're usually pretty good. Don't bother with any thing less than 4 rating though.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 09/12/2023 01:04

Not great really, apart from one independent vegan place In Northumberland where you were specifically ordering the leftovers from their Christmas hamper

From an independent cafe in the midlands I had a terrible simple baguette, crisps and gone off custard for £5 - about the same I’d have paid for but never chosen fresh!

a chocolate shop in London forgot our order so we ended up with nothing

cafe Nero was a bunch of cold dry breakfast baps

there are a few doughnut or cupcake places I gave my eye on as a last chance as at least then you know what you’re getting!

a few people on a facebook group have said similar one or two people were even near the shop at the time

Museum10662 · 09/12/2023 01:15

is the items basically whats reduced or near to be reduced that need using and is left over from that days stock ? @user6776

Redglitter · 09/12/2023 02:33

My niece gets Greggs & Morrisons ones. She always seems to get really good value, especially the Morrisons ones. I've found them quite hit & miss but generally good value for £2.50 or so

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 09/12/2023 03:06

I got a Gregg's bag tonight it had a tuna baguette, a ham and cheese baguette, 2 festive bakes and a bag of white chocolate cookies. Not bad for £2.59. Gregg's seems to vary in value depending on the location.

Last week I got a bag from the spar, it was £3.09 and was full of fruit I don't normally eat but we've something to do with it. Tonight I've managed to grab the local chippy, only been in once since they took so will be interesting.

I just use it to try stuff I wouldn't normally eat but am aware, with the supermarkets especially, it can end up with a bag full of celery.

TyneTeas · 14/12/2023 22:19

Today's bag from Morrison's included four (4!) turnips.

That is a lot of neep in one go!

Guiltypleasures001 · 14/12/2023 22:42

The co-op are normally boxes and always very good from several areas
Costas are expensive dry rubbish
Greggs in our area are brilliant loads in the bag

Clevs · 14/12/2023 22:42

Asda - 7 packs of sandwiches which were a mix of tuna mayo and plain cheese for £4.40.

Subway - £2.20 for a few subs (bread only) and a bag of cookies.

Local doughnut shop: 4 posh doughnuts for £4.39. They normally retail for £12.

I was disappointed with the Asda bag as I don't eat those sandwiches. Was hoping for more variety of stuff in the bag. The Subway bag was ok, I froze the rolls and took them to work for my lunch. The doughnut box was a nice treat though.

Clarissa111 · 15/12/2023 23:25

I work at a waitrose in a service station. We are supposed to put £15.00 worth in the bag. But we put a lot more. If we only have sandwiches we don't do a bag. But we will with ready meals, fresh meat etc. You probably get around 50.00 worth and most is freezable. But we aren't supposed to.

Walkacrossthesand · 16/12/2023 00:24

I've tried a few - M&S, a Harvester (chicken & salad), a Panku. I try to eat lowish carb so all the Greggs, Costa etc is no good for me. I expect I'll carry on keeping an eye out for the M&S one when I don't know what to have for dinner!
