What's your experience with Too Good To Go bags?

Ordered a couple of times from Greggs and wasn't that great. Both times got a sausage roll and a couple of cakes. Thought I'd try again tonight and got a Toby Carvery one tonight. That was rubbish as well, hardly got anything.

Have I just been really unlucky or are they just really not that good?

Well I’ve had great things in them but I go for supermarkets or independent cafes etc, leftovers from Greggs are never going to be great like are they.

anicecuppateaa · 08/12/2023 21:55

Waste of time. We’ve got a few from nice bakeries. Last couple have literally been 3 loaves of posh bread….

There isn't any independent cafes in my area offering them but there are a couple of supermarkets, Aldi & Morrisons. What types of items have you had in yours from supermarkets?

I live in a largish city and have had very mixed experiences.

Costa was several cake items just the right side of dry…

Starbucks has been variable - one night we got about 4 decent savoury items plus a couple of sweet which was nice. another time (different branch) mainly muffins.

our railway station M&S is the best - due to the nature of their customers we get a lot of posh salad/sandwich type things. We collect at 6.30 and have an ‘exciting’ snacky dinner! And they are generous - it’s 4.99 for £15 worth of stuff and they always give more. Once we got a gluten free sandwich and my husband needs gf so this was a mega bonus. Sometimes we get discontinued ranges such as a bottle of really nice toffee sauce.

some of the M&S stuff has been freezable. Otherwise you have to be flexible and non-fussy and be prepared to add stuff for example get some bread to go with the salads or whatever…and eat it that night (or possibly the next morning depending on what it is)

oh and generally you can’t specify any special diet or vegan or anything. That doesn’t worry me, littlest dc and I love not having to decide what to eat!

I got £100 of chocolate from Rococo for £15. That's my best TGTG win.

Wish there was an M&S near me!

Terrible. Vegan and vegetarian diets.

Worst one was about 15 types of stale bread from Morrisons and nothing else if I recall correctly. Just a bag of bread we binned.

Comedycook · 08/12/2023 22:07

Really hit and miss. I've had some brilliant gregg ones. My favourite are the sushi gourmet ones. I've had some rubbish ones before.

Splety · 08/12/2023 22:09

DS has used it in a big city with M & S twice and it’s been brilliant. £5 for £15 worth of food but all the food is already marked down so often worth about £25. He’s had cod loins, luxury sandwiches, salads, curries, pizza, muffins, spinach. He freezes what he can’t eat there and then.

Garman · 08/12/2023 22:10

We got one box from Aldi that had four fillet steaks, a loaf of bread, two packaged sandwiches and some veg I can’t remember. Was worth it for the steaks alone.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 08/12/2023 22:11

Shhhh
wish I hadn’t said about M&S now you’ll all be after it!
some supermarkets don’t seem to do it - never seen Sainsbury’s for example not round here anyway.

Maneattraction · 08/12/2023 22:12

Independent bakery, M&S at a petrol station, Greggs, Aldi all been winners. Costa is mixed, the local one hasn’t been great, but the one near work is good.

Fortunately no one is that fussy in our house, so it all gets used.
The amount of stars on the app for the store is a good guide imo.

user6776 · 08/12/2023 22:13

Most of the ones near me are Greggs, Pound Bakery & Costa

If it’s a chain, I watch videos on social media to see what people got so I have a good idea of what to expect.

MargaritaThyme · 08/12/2023 22:14

They vary enormously. It’s pot luck, really. I have had bags literally piled full of sandwiches, salads, cakes, pastries etc etc from Greggs for £3 and I have had bags with a couple of items in. I have had bags containing £40 worth of fresh meat, fish, desserts & posh ready meals from supermarkets and I have had a load of junk from the back of the reduced shelf which they couldn’t give away & most of which had to be binned.
In my experience, Pret & Wasabi are consistently good.

TyneTeas · 08/12/2023 22:15

I've had a few from Morrison's and it is quite variable

Some weeks the variety has been great, a few weeks it was just loads of bread and a couple of apples (and one week bread and loads of fresh cut herbs)

I do like that we have tried things that I probably wouldn't have otherwise and some things I have since bought

I feel like I am on Ready Steady Cook with what random ingredients we are going to get to incorporate into the weekly meal plan : )

SmileitMightNeverHappen · 08/12/2023 22:15

I deleted the app after one good experience and 3 rubbish ones.

MargaritaThyme · 08/12/2023 22:18

A Starbucks bag was particularly memorable. I got 5 vegan sandwiches, all equally inedible and all of which were binned. No wonder they can’t sell the stuff at full price.

That's rubbish 😕 did you ask for a refund?

PensionPuzzle · 08/12/2023 22:19

I've had good ones from the very local service station, both Pret and Greggs. They seem to overestimate footfall on the weekend so if we're around and there's a bag available I'll nip and get one, always been good for Sunday tea or Monday lunch so no complaints there from me.

However the town centre ones have either cancelled on me due to lack of stock, or been really poor in general, so I don't bother with them now.

lambwool · 08/12/2023 22:21

About 4 years ago I paid £4 for a box of Lola's cupcakes and I got given 3 boxes by the assistant !!

shellyleppard · 08/12/2023 22:22

Hit and miss for me.....one from the co op had loads of chips, veggie sausage and salad. Another time lots of triple cheese toastie.....🤔

I didn’t realise you could get refunds. Might try that if I get another rubbish bag.

Maverickess · 08/12/2023 22:25

I've only had a couple, a Spar shop and co-op garage but they were both good, with more than £10 worth of stuff but the co-op garage was nearer £20 worth if not more before marked down - 2 sandwiches, branded yoghurts 4 pack, bread buns, chicken breast fillets (2) and chicken thighs/drumsticks pack of about 6 mixed, 2 slabs of pate, a ginsters pasty and then one of those roll over hot dogs!

Maybe I've been lucky or it depends on the place, and that it's a small town and the co-op one is a garage but i can never get an Aldi one they're always gone straight away, but the few I've had from Spar and co-op have been really good.

MarilynBoo · 08/12/2023 22:27

I gave up after consistently being given stale croissants and baguettes with horrible fillings.
