What very useful device would you like to invent that hasn't already been invented?

For me it would be the Teck Patented Table De-wobbling Wonder Ray Gun. To eradicate at the squeeze of a trigger those annoying moments in pubs, cafes and restaurants worldwide where the very table you've chosen, or had booked for you, just can't keep still. Think of all the napkins, drip mats and menus it would save!

Star trek food thingy: "zero calorie chocolate cake, please." and it appears.

Hasn't this already been invented?

I think so too!
There's a high pressure needle free pen that can be applied over the skin and is supposed to penetrate it.
I think it's used for dangerous filler at home DIY now sadly

A hairdryer that dries and styles my hair for me while I read a book and drink tea.

You beat me to it but I also want it to wash my hair 🤣

minipie · 08/12/2023 23:35

A nose warmer.

I am sitting on the sofa under a blanket, toasty but my nose is cold.

HangingOver · 08/12/2023 23:35

Giant Nespresso machine type of gadget that makes giant samosas of any flavour

A nose warmer

Get a pair of clean pants and pop the leg holes over your ears

Electronic tag connected to every MP and a buzzer/button given to every constituent.

When the button is pressed a small electric shock will be administered to the MP to show the displeasure of the constituents.

That might make them actually do what they are paid to do and help people.

Grin Excellent idea

On a more serious note, a 'bullet' or dart that immediately anaesthetises the person it hits, so no police officer ever has to worry about making the decision to pull a trigger on a real bullet. The invention would anaesthetise the person hit for 30mins or so but have no long lasting effects.

Also, why don't scientists crack on and make creams and gels - like they use for an ultrasound - that aren't freezing cold on your skin.

headache · 08/12/2023 23:49

It would have to be a self-ironing machine. Pop clothes in if they come out perfectly crease free.

Pain detection and elongation machine, scab your whole body, measure your pain levels, then zap them, no pain at all. Can you tell I can’t sleep due to pain in different parts of my body,

I would like someone to invent a new type of hairdryer which instead of blowing hot air out, it works like a dehumidifier and sucks moisture in.

I actually think that this could be possible and would be awesome, especially for those of us with curly, frizzy hair.

Please can someone invent this.

I've seen one like this on YouTube

Devices that removed the need for needles eg diabetes, blood tests, insulin etc...

Elizabeth Holmes claimed to have invented that, but it was fake!

Headlice warning alarm. Every time your child is within 2 foot of a head louse it wails until they move away to a safe distance.

And anyone with diarrhoea and vomiting

PieAndLattes · 09/12/2023 00:08

A truth pill for politicians. You take it 6 months before elections and get offered the antidote when you leave or get voted out. Drug that forces you to represent the constituents who voted for you, even if you were parachuted into a safe seat you’d never heard of.

Mine’s a program: an online version of that spell in Harry Potter that washes away all enchantments. If anyone, while on social media, verbally abuses someone, sends them death threats or persistently bullies or insults, their IP address, identity, name, postal address and the colour of their bedroom wall will be instantly revealed, and a crack team of ferocious grannies will be dispatched to put the miscreants in the stocks, give them a damn good dressing down and/or throw rotten eggs/tomatoes/laugh at their stupid haircuts/other humiliation as appropriate.

feelingalittlehorse · 09/12/2023 00:13

Self cleaning house.

SgtBilko · 09/12/2023 00:29

I’d like a device that could generate a list of the food you put it in the freezer as you put it in, tell you where in the freezer it is six months later and be able to eject it into a fridge compartment to defrost when you select it. It should keep a running list of everything you have, the date you froze it, use by dates , how long to cook it for and at what temperature. All by smart scanning the ingredients of a dish or item you put in. I want this info on an app on my phone so I can select something to go into the defrost compartment when I am away from home. Food could also be sent direct to the microwave to be cooked if I am busy doing something else.

A vacuum drone that dusts 24/7.

A machine that sorts the edges of jigsaws.

A webcam on the inside of the fridge.

We have the fridges kind of in Australia, you clap twice or touch the door (can't remember which you do) and it turns the fridge door transparent so you can see inside.

A scanner that a cancer patient can stand in front of that will scan the whole patient in only a couple of minutes and tell drs whether there are any rogue cancer cells left that are looking to put down their roots. One that works without having to access the patient's veins for contrast or radioactive dye. One that detects the presence of cancerous cells rather than formed tumours.

This would eliminate the need for continuing / maintenance chemo for thousands of patients per year and inform oncologists whether a treatment is working. And once all cancerous cells are known to be gone, treatment can stop, eliminating further traumatic and sometimes life-threatening treatment.

Blood tests can indicate cancerous cells but I want a machine that is much more sensitive and accurate.

It would revolutionise cancer treatment.

I don't actually think it'll be long before it's invented.

coldcallerbaiter · 09/12/2023 03:35

The stargate film has a sarcophagus that heals serious injury.

LadyMargaretDevereux · 09/12/2023 05:03

Automatic dog brush'n'vac that would climb all over the hairy beast and sort out his fur tangles and vacuum it all up at the same time.
