What am I to do about this - dog?

I'm babysitting for the weekend within a friend's home. I am minding her children They have a pet dog. I know the dog well and I see the dog nearly most days and the dog is friendly and we get on well too. The dog knows me and we both love each other.

However the dog didn't eat his breakfast this morning. It would be too soon for him to notice that his owners are gone for the weekend because they go to work during the week and he's used to them being away. So I don't think the refusing of food is anything to do with his owners being away.

He went out to toilet at about 3.30. I stood at the door a while ago and called his name but he never came. I called him a few times.

It should be his dinner time now too. He does have a hiding place at the end of the garden but it's too cold, wet, windy and dark to go out there for me right now.

Am I to supposed to keep shouting his name at the door or am I supposed to wait for the kids to go to sleep then go outside for him. I don't fancy going out side to him later on when the kids are asleep either because it will be much later too.

What am I supposed to do?
Will I continue shouting his name at the door or go out for him later on or just leave him out for the night?

I would go out now with a torch and find him. He’ll be so cold !

PastTheGin · 08/12/2023 19:20

Do not leave the dog outside over night! Grab a torch and go and get him inside.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/12/2023 19:22

Is this a joke? God, I hope it is.

Is this a wind up?

Simonjt · 08/12/2023 19:23

“it's too cold, wet, windy and dark to go out there for me right now.”

Stop being a baby and put a coat on, you don’t lock a dog out because you can’t be bothered to get them in from the garden.

pictoosh · 08/12/2023 19:24

Put a coat on a check his hiding place. You won't dissolve.

StopLickingTheDog · 08/12/2023 19:26

Working on the assumption that this is genuine...

If you've let him out at 3.30 and there's no sign of him, he's either...

Escaped
Stuck somewhere
Collapsed/dead

You need to go and look for him

Megifer · 08/12/2023 19:27

You love the dog? Hes not been in since 3.30pm?? Go out there and check on him fgs

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/12/2023 19:28

Are you sure the dog has not escaped?

Branleuse · 08/12/2023 19:29

Put winter coat on and a torch and go look for the dog.

CornishPorsche · 08/12/2023 19:31

Put a bloody coat on and go get the dog!

DisforDarkChocolate · 08/12/2023 19:31

Go and find the dog!

xyzandabc · 08/12/2023 19:31

Erm, I'm not a dog person at all. Nor any pets really.

But are you saying the dog has essentially been missing for nearly 4 hours now and you haven't been outside to look for it?

Does it usually go outside on its own for extended periods of time? Or were you expecting it to come straight back in when you let it out at 3.30?

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 08/12/2023 19:31

Well unless they have a grand estate for a garden stop being lazy and get your phone torch on and go look for the dog. He’s been out for 4 hours! What if he’s escaped?

wildwestpioneer · 08/12/2023 19:32

Well yes you need to go outside and find him

HateMyRubbishBoss · 08/12/2023 19:33

Hmmm your babysitting skills are a bit rubbish 🤔

samcartersg1 · 08/12/2023 19:34

How do you know the dog hasn't escaped?

BlackBean2023 · 08/12/2023 19:34

I really hope this is wind up.

Blanketenvy · 08/12/2023 19:34

I'm assuming this is a wind up, but if not, no its not normal for a dog to be outside for 4 hours on their own or to not be bothered to go and look for them.

AlwaysGinPlease · 08/12/2023 19:34

Are you for real?! How could they ask someone so stupid and irresponsible to look after their children/dog/home?!

Santaiswashinghissleigh · 08/12/2023 19:36

And someone has left you in charge of dc? Mind is boggled....

winterchills · 08/12/2023 19:36

Surely this isnt real! Of course u should go out and look for him right now!!

AutumnNymph · 08/12/2023 19:36

This has got to be a windup. It really has to be. Or else you have a very weird definition of "love".

TheWetBandits · 08/12/2023 19:39

Agree with the masses, this can't be real. Anyone who cares a jot about animals would have been outside hunting at 3.45

If he was off his food the chances are he's unwell and could very well be collapsed at the end of the garden

Get the bloody hell outside now.

If I were the dogs owners and read this you'd be fired on the spot and we'd never use you again.

samcartersg1 · 08/12/2023 19:41

Have the kids not missed the dog?
