What am I to do about this - dog?

I'm babysitting for the weekend within a friend's home. I am minding her children They have a pet dog. I know the dog well and I see the dog nearly most days and the dog is friendly and we get on well too. The dog knows me and we both love each other.

However the dog didn't eat his breakfast this morning. It would be too soon for him to notice that his owners are gone for the weekend because they go to work during the week and he's used to them being away. So I don't think the refusing of food is anything to do with his owners being away.

He went out to toilet at about 3.30. I stood at the door a while ago and called his name but he never came. I called him a few times.

It should be his dinner time now too. He does have a hiding place at the end of the garden but it's too cold, wet, windy and dark to go out there for me right now.

Am I to supposed to keep shouting his name at the door or am I supposed to wait for the kids to go to sleep then go outside for him. I don't fancy going out side to him later on when the kids are asleep either because it will be much later too.

What am I supposed to do?
Will I continue shouting his name at the door or go out for him later on or just leave him out for the night?

Oh god I've just reread the last bit that you're too scared to go out later and might leave him out for the night! That poor animal could be in serious distress/dead or escaped wandering the streets.

if my dog was outside and out of sight for any longer than 1 min literally I would be actively looking and calling. Completely not normal for a pet dog to be out this long, even a working dog I wouldn't say this is normal.

One of the kids is down with D&V since 2 pm. My care, concern and energy was going into caring for her.

I was anxious of leaving her in case I come back to another spell of sick and shit.

Exactly how big is this garden?

XmasStag · 08/12/2023 19:45

The dog is usually outside a lot on his own when the family is at work and school. I am a neighbour and the dog usually calls into me when they are gone and I love him. It's not unusual that he goes outside for a while.

Sorry but that doesn't give you the right to abandon the care of the animal too, that's just neglect

Daisydaisy69 · 08/12/2023 19:46

wtf is wrong with you?

TheWetBandits · 08/12/2023 19:47

So since 2pm the child has been either vomiting or having continuous diarrhoea which has meant you couldn't venture outside for a look for 5 mins? If that's the case the child needs to go to A&E immediately as will be severely dehydrated

Megifer · 08/12/2023 19:47

I'm sure the kid will be fine, toilet with a bucket for sick, and check on the dog. Takes 3 minutes.

Are you sure you're up for babysitting?

BadSnips · 08/12/2023 19:47

Stop fucking answering posts and GO FIND THE DOG.

XmasStag · 08/12/2023 19:48

No there were 3 vomiting spells and 1 dirrohea and she's taking fluids for me now and seems to be keeping them down.

How old are you?

I didn't realise schools had broken up already. No grown up is exhausted by one sick kid over a few hours, or scared of going out in the back garden for minutes.

stepintochristmas1 · 08/12/2023 19:48

This is not real ,any adult would get coat and lead and retrieve dog .

So GET THE FUCK OUTSIDE then and start looking

squeekychicken · 08/12/2023 19:50

Do you mean the dogs out roaming the street or in the back secure garden?

Panicmode1 · 08/12/2023 19:50

This can't be real.....!?

CharlotteRose90 · 08/12/2023 19:51

Get a torch and coat and go and find that dog, it’s not eaten, it’s chucking it down and it’s freezing. Your child will be fine for 5 mins. Stop being so damn selfish and get that dog home.

Messyhair321 · 08/12/2023 19:52

Christ. What the fuck are you on about go & look for the dog.
Let us known dog is ok I'm losing patience

RoyalMailAreShit · 08/12/2023 19:52

Why did you agree to care for the kids and dog if you are unable to cope? Where are the children’s parents? Have you tried calling them to come back?

SmileitMightNeverHappen · 08/12/2023 19:53

Seriously? You made a thread about this?

XmasStag · 08/12/2023 19:53

I wasn't expecting D+V

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 08/12/2023 19:55

What the hell?!

The dog comes to see you when his owners are out? So he can get out of the garden?! And you're not concerned that he's been hit by a car or got lost?!
Or that he's seriously ill bearing in mind he's apparently off his food. Poor thing could be dead or dying while you arse about whining about the rain.

Who the hell is entrusted with the care of a pet and just goes 'meh' when they're missing for several hours.

Thank fuck it wasn't one of the kids that wandered off I suppose.
