Royal Mail has joined up with Evri, oh dear...

I gave up on Evri/Herme's a few years ago after having 3 posted bags go missing into the ether, no compensation despite filling out all the forms. My husband ordered me an Aspinal bag the other week and White Company bits for my Xmas present, both delivered by Royal Mail, both tampered with and the bag stolen. They'd wrapped the empty Aspinal box in plastic with a 'sorry this hasn't arrived in good condition' note. This is the first time I've had this happen with Royal Mail - coincidence?? Such a shame as Royal mail collection service was brilliant up until recently.

It happens sometimes. Packages get damaged through carelessness more often than through theft I think. Very few people are going to risk their jobs for a few bits and bobs.

MikMak · 06/12/2023 15:28

Funny how it's only ever been handbags that have gone missing over the last 15 years. With Evri the courier can see the contents. Box was ripped open and empty, didn't help that 'Aspinal ' was printed large on the outside. Like I said, first time it's happened with Royal Mail, and on the most expensive item we've ordered by post this year. I don't think that's just an accident.

Actually, theft is rife at Evri. I know someone who works as a security guard there and they find multiple packages per day which have been stashed ready to be taken from the depots/vehicles. It's one of the effects of offering poor working contracts, you get workers who don't have much to lose as they're already living desperately/don't have secure income.

Gribbit987 · 06/12/2023 16:08

What do you mean Royal Mail has joined up with evri?

Are you referring to the Evri drop off points in post offices or something else?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/12/2023 16:14

My Evri courier is amazing. Out in all weathers and you can track items

Royal Mail lose stuff, fail to deliver, and you can only track once it’s been posted through your door. Which is useless.

Zingy123 · 06/12/2023 16:15

I don't understand your title. I am a postie and have never stolen anything.

Flavabobble · 06/12/2023 16:15

Royal mail use agency staff for parcel deliveries too

Evri don't deliver for Royal Mail. You can now send evri parcels from the post office, but the post office are not Royal Mail. If the goods were sent and delivered by Royal Mail then that's nothing to do with evri at all. There is no connection between the two.

Kedece2410 · 06/12/2023 16:19

Its a bit of a leap to say Royal Mail have joined up with them just because you've had a parcel damaged.

Theyre 2 very separate companies

Gribbit987 · 06/12/2023 16:31

Ok, so Royal Mail haven’t joined up with Evri 🤣

Royal Mail and the Post Office are not the same company.

The post office simply sells courier services. They have decided to sell Dpd and Evri services as well as Royal Mail. All 3 of these companies are competitors and have their own independent logistical operations.

So your thread is simply about a couple of items going missing over your lifetime sent by different couriers…

When Evri were Hermes they “lost” 12 consecutive parcels of mine over the run up to Christmas. It was thousands of pounds. One department store sent 3 orders via them and when I rang frustrated and requesting a fourth sent by someone else I was flagged for fraud and locked out of my account. The call operator refused to talk to me about the parcel or anything else until I was investigated. I ultimately received £100 goodwill apology but it was actually quite a horrible experience.

Other than that worst customer service came from Sports Direct and Asos who both made me sign a declaration and told me they’d return my money at some point in the new year! It took almost a month to get my money back from them. Neither gave me an apology.

What had happened? Hermes had a lack of local staff and it was all sitting in a depot. It eventually all got returned to retailers.

Evri in my area are now very reliable. It will depend on staff and management.

Royal Mail I’ve had the odd issue with - a few packs have arrived like yours with the apology letter. It’s not a conspiracy it’s mostly the machinery and the rough treatment through the network.

MikMak · 06/12/2023 16:32

I literally received an email from Royal mail today informing me they'd teemed up with Evri, but OK....
On the Evri site: 'We’ve expanded our existing ParcelShop network by teaming up with the Post Office to bring you over 2,000+ new ParcelShop locations, which combined with our secure, 24/7 accessible Lockers gives you access to over 10,000+ handy parcel drop-off points throughout the UK.'
Not sure why people so triggered by me pointing this out.

The Post Office and Royal Mail are two separate companies. As they have been for years.

Laiste · 06/12/2023 16:57

The Post Office is now offering more than one courier service OP.

Evri is one of them.

Royal Mail is one company and Evri is another. If you go on Evri's website they actually quote a price comparison between themselves and RM with Evri being cheaper.

Spinet · 06/12/2023 16:59

Evri are waaaaaaaay better than royal mail in area, so this worries me for the opposite reason!

AgnesX · 06/12/2023 16:59

Our Evri guy has been delivering since before COVID and is really good. So is our postman who annoyingly is leaving is also really good. I just hope the winning streak continues.

Credit where it's due and all that!

Cas112 · 06/12/2023 17:02

Hate EVRI/hermes with a passion

Worst courier company ever and I've never wanted a company to go out of business more then them😂 and I don't even feel guilty for saying that

Laiste · 06/12/2023 17:09

I think it's down to the individual working your area.

When it was still Hermes and for a couple of weeks as Evri we had a woman who drove a big white van and half the village had their parcels late or stolen.

Then suddenly the Evri deliverer was a lovely bloke in a tiny car and everything arrives on time and in the right place since. I don't know how he gets it all in his car! His name's Nick. Good on ya Nick 😃

StoorieHoose · 06/12/2023 17:09

My Evri courier is fantastic. Unfortunately they take on staff over the busy periods who don't have a clue as they aren't trained which makes his life harder as he has to pick up the slack

Don't even talk to me about Yodel - they are truly awful

ShortColdandGrey · 06/12/2023 17:13

No, you got an email from the post office. A completely different company from Royal Mail.

Getthethrowonthesofa · 06/12/2023 17:17

Op I think you’re confused, between Royal Mail, post office and what this teaming up means even though it clear in the email.

there is no delivery service that is 100 percent perfect; rogue employees exist. Christ I had an iPhone stolen by a dpd driver and he was fired. They called the police in. The fact your bag was maybe stolen is nothing to do with evri. Or the post office for that matter.

Getthethrowonthesofa · 06/12/2023 17:24

To help explain. Royal Mail does the deliveries. They are a postal and courier company.

the Post office is a retail company, that is where you go and buy your stamps or collect parcels, where you can often do some banking.

Two very different companies providing very different services, one retail/banking, one courier.

as such , the Royal Mail cannot have sent you an email saying they were teaming up with evri, only the post office limited would have sent you the mail.

Zingy123 · 06/12/2023 17:26

I think you need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 06/12/2023 17:34

In my area, if you get something from Royal Mail they wait until you get to the door to give it you unless you designate an alternative. Got something from Evri today that I had tried to cancel but told to refuse it instead. By the time I got to the door the courier was back at his van and when I called to him, said he had already marked it as delivered. Checking later, it said it had been handed to the resident. Grrr

Royal mail are way better than Evri though for sure
