What have you done that you regret the most? I’m just sat at home feeling sorry for myself and very regretful about something I’ve done recently. What would you take back if you could?

Lots! Whether I would change it now if a different matter - they force life in a certain direction.

What have you done recently that you regret @Whatsmyusername1235 ?

ShirleyPhallus · 05/12/2023 19:01

It’s better to regret something you do do, than something you don’t do

mamaduckbone · 05/12/2023 19:05

Oh I could list loads, but I guess every decision has led me to where I am now.
Have you read 'The Midnight Library'?

granhands1 · 05/12/2023 19:10

That I gave my oldest child such a dreadful father :(

Daisypod · 05/12/2023 19:22

I was on the phone to my mum and she asked if I wanted to speak to dad, I said no I'd see him tomorrow. A few hours later he was dead and I never got to speak to him again. I was only 19 and I've never regretted anything as much as that missed conversation.

Iateallllllthepies · 05/12/2023 19:24

Oh God, everything. Everything.

I have a hard time making decisions now because the ones I have made in life have been disastrous (and really, they have), for not only me but family members. I’ve really fucked things up along the way that I shouldn’t have done.

Yes, my poor decisions have led me and my family to an awful place.

Justmuddlingalong · 05/12/2023 19:26

My time.
Wasting it on those who don't deserve it and not spending enough of it with those who do.

DragMeUnder · 05/12/2023 19:43

Not kissing him back. Now I'll have to live the rest of my life without knowing.

YogaLite · 05/12/2023 19:53

@Iateallllllthepies that resonates with me so much - gets worse each year for me

BoredofBlonde · 05/12/2023 19:59

That I didnt REALLY get to know my ex before marrying him and having children.

That I didnt get my daughter the help she was crying out for as a child, nearly 30 years ago now, with what I now know was MH issues. I am there now, always will be, but I can't stop beating myself up

cockwomble73 · 05/12/2023 20:00

Failed to establish a meaningful career.

I've always worked in jobs that fit around the family, and now it is too late. Shame really because I'm pretty bright and think I could've done well at many things!

BlastedPimples · 05/12/2023 20:01

@cockwomble73 it's never too late. Don't say that. You can retrain. I mean, you probably couldn't be an astronaut or a gymnast but get yourself sorted by fulfilling your aspirations.

RenoDakota · 05/12/2023 20:02

Giving away a massive box of assorted Lego bits to a local school when a TA put a sob story on Facebook. My children are 22 and 19 but I SO wish I had kept it for any future grandchildren.

LemonLimeDivine · 05/12/2023 20:04

Wasting my time and energy on those who don’t deserve it. You live and learn.

Twattergy · 05/12/2023 20:04

Staying with my first proper boyfriend for about 6 years too many.

LikeRobbieSays · 05/12/2023 20:06

Living on my own, travelling more, working abroad, being scared looking an idiot so saying no to loads I really wanted to do, having the guts to walk away............loads really

LikeRobbieSays · 05/12/2023 20:08

NOT should have gone at the beginning of most of those!

2fast2upset · 05/12/2023 20:10

Trained to be a teacher.

I lacked any mental security and doubted myself as making it in a grad scheme or getting a training contract as a law postgrad. If I failed it would mean going back to live with mum and dad in the arse end of nowhere.

Great degree from a great uni, am/was bright. Just so worried of failure and no funds to bolster myself with internships. Always had to work to pay the bills as a student so no let up.

teaching at least meant I got a decent-ish grad salary in London, climbed the ladder. Did well.

I’ve career changed, but it’s so much harder with a family. I had a lovely 9 years as a teacher but it’s still my greatest regret that the world was my oyster and I didn’t push myself more. Felt like I had to do a job my nan had heard of.

I hope my DC know they can try and do WHATEVER they want and as it stands- will not have to worry about money as students.

baubletits · 05/12/2023 20:12

Chose the wrong degree at uni.

I wish I'd chosen something with a more defined career path, instead of something that everyone said would open up many different jobs. Turns out it makes me very ill qualified for most jobs.

grafittiartist · 05/12/2023 20:13

Regret getting a credit card.
Then another .......

ActDottie · 05/12/2023 20:13

Buying the house we currently live in. Only bought last year and hate it. Mostly because we’ve realised the neighbours are tw*ts.

cardibach · 05/12/2023 20:20

Nothing.
Regret is pointless. All the choices I’ve made led me to who I am now. To regret anything suggests I don’t like myself. I do.

JamSandle · 05/12/2023 20:22

If only everyone lived twice. Once to make all the mistakes and once more to make some new ones!

Elle200 · 05/12/2023 20:36

The biggest regret of my life is buying a motorbike which I was later involved in a crash on. It crippled me and changed the whole course of my life.
