White tiger balm - how did I not know about this years ago?

I get quite frequent migraines. Sometimes no painkillers touch them. It may be only temporary but OMG the relief of white tiger balm on my temples is amazing!
Just really wanted to share a I've only discovered it in the past year. It's like that 4head stuff on steroids.
Also when the migraine comes with neck and shoulder pain, the red tiger balm (or any other heating muscle stuff) works wonders.

The only issue is remembering through the pain and brain fog to actually use them!

Anyone else got any "wonder products" they want to share?

If you use tiger balm, be careful with your eyes, even if you’ve carefully washed your hands afterwards.
Also applies to penises….

Ulysees · 05/12/2023 19:24

@Larabelle6 I just used it from the jar I don't have the lotion. Can barely feel it.

tothefareast80 · 05/12/2023 19:26

Just don't mistake it for a pot of lip balm, that's a mistake I only made once!

I lived in HK for 15 years so if you love Tiger Balm can I introduce you to Nin Jiom Pei Pa Kao the best cough medicine EVER and now in the UK.

That's the best news! I've had friends bring it in for me. Where can you buy it?

Out of interest do any of you fellow migraineurs suffer from motion sickness?
My GP also said they can be linked—and a definite YES to finding smells intolerable- reed diffusers at people’s houses can be overpowering and have had to get off buses if people are wearing strong perfume.

I don't suffer from motion sickness but I get very very dizzy when I have a migraine.

busstopbingo · 05/12/2023 19:38

White tiger balm is my go to for bug bites, the menthol numbs the itch

Larabelle6 · 05/12/2023 19:42

@Ulysees ive had to get ice! Little white pot was lovely and soothing on my head but the bottle of red ointment like the one on your post that kind of rolls on is brutal!

OP they will likely go after menopause.

Dont bank on it! Mine have come back with a vengeance!

EverySporkIsSacred · 05/12/2023 20:14

@AnneLovesGilbert the advice I found says it could be harmful to babies "if enough is absorbed through the skin or inhaled". It's the camphor oil in it that can be dangerous. I'm sorry. I really hope you feel better soon though.

Also, good skin care product recommendations - was wanting some more things to go on Christmas wish list!

I'm sure I read in a magazine decades ago that Vicks is quite...interesting...on the certain feminine areas though 😁

It's fab for kidney and back pains too, I used it with endometriosis pains rubbed on my lower belly. Works a treat.

Fourfurrymonsters · 06/12/2023 00:12

For those of you that like tiger balm - I’ve been using it for decades as I have chronic pain/tension headaches in my neck, shoulders and back due to a riding accident years ago, and I also have aura migraine, arthritis and plantar fasciitis, and I found the best version online: Ultra strength tiger balm. Oh yes. This stuff is an actual miracle. It’s clear/white so no staining, in a really decent sized tub and it is MAGICAL. Not for sale in the UK unfortunately, but I use a site called iHerb.com and they are fantastic, very reasonably priced and very quick to arrive. They also have the liquid stuff, Tiger Balm Arthritis rub, which is also amazing on my dodgy knees. Highly recommend and I buy 6-8 pots at a time because I literally can’t be without it and am terrified that it’ll be discontinued!

My wonder product is the insect repellent Smidge. Every biting insect on the planet has my number, but this stuff keeps all of them away, even ants. It's life-changing.

Duly noted for Madeira next year. I was bitten to buggary on my balcony 😞

Psychoticbreak · 06/12/2023 00:49

Mine is Sudocrem. It is fantastic for spots and teenage acne, cuts, grazes etc also great for eczema and minor burns, sunburn, chilblaines and it is a nappy rash cream first and foremost. Any of mine come in with a cut or a spot and they ask for 'the arse cream'!

Anybody else remember tiger balm when, ahem, clubbing?

Yes! I was waiting for someone to mention this! Getting passed a jar mid dance, and once a stranger rubbed some on the back of my neck on the dance floor, and I just let them, everyone was your best mate.....🕊️ ahh them were the days.

I used to use this as a teenager and had forgotten about it but think the tin I had was red. Everyone at school had one.

Exactly this! It was really trendy in the 90s, everyone used to have a little red tin of it in their school bags at my school. Wondering if this was a thing if we just went to the same school 😄.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/12/2023 02:55

It's amazing. I keep forgetting I gave got some though!

After years of horrendous ear pain on flights, a gp recommended I try a little bit of tiger balm at the front of my ears. (I've used it for years but hadn't thought of it for this). We flew Australia to the UK, with 2 stops on the way, before the first landing I put a little bit on as advised and it didn't help, second landing I used a fair bit and it definitely made a difference, third landing, I was covered in it and I landed pain free! DH joked that everyone in economy had clear tubes from the smell, but I use it every flight now.

This could be a game changer for me. Landing is so painful for me. Mostly in the UK for some reason rather than anywhere else. But if this works it would be awesome.

I get pain from my ears, down my jaw and the back of my neck, I struggle to deal with my kids and have been in tears in the past, it's so painful. The tiger balm definitely has been a game changer. I sit with the open tub and any sign of pain creeping in, I apply more!
