White tiger balm - how did I not know about this years ago?

I get quite frequent migraines. Sometimes no painkillers touch them. It may be only temporary but OMG the relief of white tiger balm on my temples is amazing!
Just really wanted to share a I've only discovered it in the past year. It's like that 4head stuff on steroids.
Also when the migraine comes with neck and shoulder pain, the red tiger balm (or any other heating muscle stuff) works wonders.

The only issue is remembering through the pain and brain fog to actually use them!

Anyone else got any "wonder products" they want to share?

Spacemasks self-heating eye masks. Worn on forehead, rather than eyes. Lovely subtle fragrance. Miracle worker.

Also, conversely, and depending on how the migraine is striking me, one of those blue ice bags on top of my head. The ones you might think only exist in Tom and Jerry!

Yep amazing stuff, I use the white balm with a headache or cold! Red balm is great with muscular aches. Jar lasts ages.

Gosh, yes, me too. Certain smells can give me a terrible headache/migraine almost immediately. That heavy Dior ‘Poison’ perfume (from 1980s?) was one, thank goodness it has gone or at least declined in popularity, I don’t notice it around anyway. I even had a bottle given to me as a present and I had to send it to a charity shop - I couldn’t risk giving it to family or friends in case they wore it when with me!

No WAY!!!!
Poison for me, too!🤢😂

Great recommendation, I only remember the red one from the 90's. I'll but that smidge too!

powershowerforanhour · 05/12/2023 15:32

The best stuff for soothing midge bites I ever tried was a little pot of ointment bought from a homemade herbal hippie type stall at a craft fair. It was made from chickweed, have never seen it available anywhere since.

powershowerforanhour · 05/12/2023 15:34

Although I've just googled chickweed ointment and it's a thing now it seems.

Get the original Tiger balm though. There are many cheaper versions but they are not as good.

The version from the 90’s was amazing. Probably all sorts of ingredients in it that are banned now!

Ulysees · 05/12/2023 15:53

Boots have this.

I've just rubbed some ointment on as get problems with sinus, tmj pressure etc. Thanks for reminding me OP.

@oakleaffy I wish they declined with my middle age! They've just changed and become even more unpredictable (I'm 47). I woke up this morning with one like you mentioned, I'd had painkillers which didn't work then wrote my OP just after applying the white tiger balm (and almost crying with relief). But I don't get the auras and only sometimes am nauseous (like today).

Also yes, I do get motion sickness sometimes (that has improved with age though!). As for smells - it depends how strong and how chemical they are IYSWIM. Perfume is awful, Lynx Deodorant or Lush Snow Fairy bodyspray make me nauseous even when I don't have a headache!

It’s great isn’t it? Like a cool menthol breeze through your skull!

43ontherocksporfavor · 05/12/2023 16:41

OP they will likely go after menopause.

The ones without the auras are worse- because they can’t be pre- empted in my ( and bros) experience.
I’m older than you and have noticed a decline in them compared to childhood, teens and young adulthood where they were awful- and I’d often be sick.

When a headache eases, it’s a wonderful feeling.
You are lucky Tiger Balm works for you.

It is soothing ( just don’t get it anywhere near eyes of course( been there)

I’ve tried deep heat and all sorts on back of my neck

  • The combination of headache and nausea is so grim, like an insult to injury.

Interesting that so many of us have mentioned smells as triggers-
Walking home tonight, a man was pointlessly running a petrol mower outside his garage- the fumes made me feel really sick.

Lush shops also trigger that headachey nausea - and yet Body Shop doesn’t ( when walking past)

One strange thing- when not too nauseous, I find beans on toast can sometimes help ease a headache.

Not sure why.

Mine were with aura or after aura so some warning. 2 years into meno and not had one since!

43ontherocksporfavor · 05/12/2023 17:03

I think Lush would induce migraines in non sufferers!

That’s one advantage of the Meno😂

It’s such a chemically smell -

  • I haven’t ever been in any of the shops as the cloud of chemical aura for metres around the shops is so overwhelming.

Some smells are lovely- like old fashioned Pear’s soap before they changed the formula - but the Lush and Poison smells are so aggressively assaulting to the senses.

There used to be a joke shop in town which meant that every Saturday, kids would be busting Stink Bombs in the arcade- just horrible 🤢😂

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 05/12/2023 17:20

Just added some of this to my online shop for delivery tomorrow. Hope it works as painkillers are not shifting the banging headache I've had for two days now. 😫

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/12/2023 17:28

4head is amazing. Anyone know if you can use tiger balm while breastfeeding? I have some in a drawer somewhere but don’t think I’ve ever used it. Having awful headaches most days from broken sleep from incessantly ill kids.

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/12/2023 17:30

My miracle products are weleda skin food and argon oil for dry skin and hair. Most of me feels like it’s cracking or flaking since it got so cold.

dressedforcomfort · 05/12/2023 17:43

So grateful for this thread. Have lost the past two days to migraine and this is actually helping a little...

irishmurdoch · 05/12/2023 18:19

Used this all the time for mossie bites when i lived in Asia, it's brilliant stuff

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 05/12/2023 13:14

My wonder product is the insect repellent Smidge. Every biting insect on the planet has my number, but this stuff keeps all of them away, even ants. It's life-changing.

Noted for next summer! Thank you!

Larabelle6 · 05/12/2023 19:13

@Ulysees go easy with the application - I applied this about 30 mins ago to neck and shoulders and it’s burning like mad right now - great stuff though; that combined with the white stuff on my head and nose and I’m hopeful for a decent sleep tonight
