My mum has a boyfriend, they are in their eighties.

He has no children, he's on his own. He's always saying he has nobody to leave his house etc to.

She just rang me twenty minutes ago because she had a puncture and she was waiting for Green Flag and told me that he did one of those Ancestry things and discovered a daughter he didn't know he had! She's sixty and he's going to meet her soon.

I was so completely agog and of course I had a million questions....but then my mum just said ohhhhh, here's Green Flag. Bye!

But honestly, what a game changer! He's got absolutely nobody and he's so lovely.

There's a house near me on a little country road with the most ornate hand carved gates you can imagine. Inside there's a monster dove cote, also handcarved. On the verge outside, there's a donkey and a goat tethered just munching the grass and the goat has his own little handcarved house. People stop and feed them.

DS2 is doing his grade 3 viola exam today. He's a mahoosive rugby prop so he swapped to the viola because he's such a big lad, the little finger moves on the violin were just too small for him, bless him. He nearly gave up music lessons last year and I'm just so proud of him pushing through and doing the grade 3 exam, I don't care what his result is.

DS1 is having his birthday on Thursday and has requested an apple cake so I've spent a happy half hour looking up the millions of amazing sounding apple cakes online - toffee apple cake, salted caramel apple cake, monkey bread with apples, french yoghurt apple cake, spiced apple cake, honey apple cake...so many options!!

DPuppy has learned to sleep happily in his bed on the floor next to our bed. He still jumps on the bed in the morning to snuggle and is just the cutest. I'll post a puppy tax photo for you.

He likes checking out what's going on downstairs before wasting energy walking down!

Your cat literally is the cutest! That's my idea of a totally cute cat.

I got messages from both grown up DC today telling me how well their lives are going. They've both had a fair amount of stress since leaving uni and this week, they are both happy. One is newly in love and the other is starting to get a lot of work in a very competitive freelance field that he has always wanted to do.

Also OP you may enjoy the "dull and unexciting news" thread - it's a long-running thread started during covid when everything just felt so intense and in fact it was nicer to read people's personal cosy news.

First post on that thread: "my sheets got changed today. I am sitting on my freshly ironed newly made bed with a plate of gorgonzola, mushroom and walnut pasta. there was a hairy moment earlier when my fitted sheet wasn't ironed properly and had to be done again... but all sorted now."
