Cockfosters underground station passenger drop-off?

We need to drop someone off at this station tomorrow (Sunday) and we've never been to that area before. Does anyone know if there is somewhere to pull over to let somebody out of the car please?

Grumio · 02/12/2023 23:59

Yes there's a car park just beside the station.

sixteenfurryfeet · 03/12/2023 00:03

@Grumio We just want to let her out of the car and leave, so can you drive into the car park, drop someone off and then drive out again without paying?

There are entrances on both sides of the road. There is a lay by in front of one of them which you can drive through and drop off. I think the car park next to the entrance on the other side of the road has cameras. There is also a side road next to the layby

DelphiniumBlue · 03/12/2023 00:28

Thee are side roads nearby you could stop at as well.

sixteenfurryfeet · 03/12/2023 00:39

Thanks, I'll tell DH - he's stressing because the last time he drove into London on a Sunday he strayed into a bus lane and got fined!

If the normal trains weren't on strike we wouldn't have to be doing this at all and DD could just get the train from our local railway station as normal. Cockfosters is the nearest underground station but still 40 miles away. Grr.

Have a look on street view.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/12/2023 04:52

I live near Cockfosters. Lots of great restaurants. I’d be dropping off, parking up and stopping for something to eat! Marlos, Desiree, Skewed, Miracles to name just 4.

FortunataTagnips · 03/12/2023 05:53

Mmmm. Skewd…
IIRC, there’s also a drop-off bit before you get into the main car park. It’ll be fine.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/12/2023 06:13

Skewd not on the menu as such and in case you don’t know you can ask for a lamb and chicken shish combo instead of having to decide. Never ever done this. Not me oh no.

FortunataTagnips · 03/12/2023 06:16

That is good information.

sixteenfurryfeet · 03/12/2023 08:09

@WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout Excellent advice re local restaurants, but I suspect that since they'll be there quite soon, DH is more likely to be interested in a fry-up.😂

then you want miracles or Marlos!

both do excellent breakfasts
can’t remember what time they open on a Sunday morning though as I usually go during the week.

FortunataTagnips · 03/12/2023 08:26

Or head just up the road to the Ferny Hill Tea Room, which does epic fry-ups.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/12/2023 08:28

Ahh yes good point re the tea rooms.

XelaM · 03/12/2023 08:30

Yep - very easy to drop off at Cockfosters

UrghAnotherOne · 03/12/2023 08:31

Cockfosters is barely "driving into London" - it's incredibly suburban. There are loads of residential side roads you'll have no problem parking in on a Sunday.

geoger · 03/12/2023 08:32

Yep very very easy to drop off at Cockfosters and can highly recommend the breakfast at Ferney Hill tea rooms

goingtotown · 03/12/2023 08:43

You'll be paying the Ulez fee if your car is not compliant.

It is - we checked.

Anyhow, I have had a text from DD to say she's on the underground so all good. No idea what DH is doing. He'll probably let me know later on whether he's found breakfast or not!

@UrghAnotherOne I'm sure you're right, but we live rurally so don't drive anywhere 'incredibly surburban' all that often, and DH is a worrier.

Thanks for those who mentioned Ferny Hill - I regularly meet a friend for coffee in Trent Park ( not my favourite cafe) and didn't realise there is an alternative nearby. Is there parking? Thank you

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/12/2023 09:06

Yes there is. Trent Park cafe has closed down I thought?

FortunataTagnips · 03/12/2023 09:22

Trent Park cafe had become utterly grim. I hope its reincarnation is better and MUCH more hygienic. Ideally with some loos.

FortunataTagnips · 03/12/2023 09:22

Ferny Hill tea rooms is a much, much better option nearby.
