Chocolate/s you would love to be given at Christmas (or anytime really)

Inspired by another thread and posters' differing tastes. What chocolate/s would you be thrilled to receive in your Christmas stocking and what type would make you glum/potentially regift? Though obviously grateful for the thought!

My all time favourite is Green and Black's Sea Salt chocolate bar (not always easy
to find) closely followed by Bendicks Bittermints. I would be soo disappointed
with a box of Ferrero Rocher.

lighthearted

Some surprisingly mainstream choices here. I only came on to this thread for competive stealth boasting about artisan chocolates costing a fiver each amongst procolomations that Hotel Chocolat isn't good enough for posters.
Disappointed

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/12/2023 11:03

A box of Bendicks of Mayfair always makes me think of Christmas. There would be a box when I was a child and we would longingly wait to be permitted a chocolate.

I still love them. Dark chocolate and mint. What's not to love?

Chocolate to sit and scoff for me is dark lindt balls or dark toblerone, something like that.

For something more special I like a nice box of well chosen Leonoidas and Neuhaus are divine. Especially the big nougatine and ganache type ones.

Agree on Läderach - spectacular! I have family in Switzerland so whenever they come to us or we go over it's my top request! Though you do have to basically remortgage the house.

I have a soft spot for Kinder Bueno and Ritter Sport too, but they're not quite so present-y.

Having googled Laderach based on recommendations here I definitely wouldn’t buy it. The founders are from a right wing Christian fundamentalist cult and donate money to anti-abortion causes. They also founded a school where children were abused. I’d rather have a toblerone than contribute to that! https://www.reddit.com/r/askswitzerland/comments/16omlt0/why_does_anyone_still_frequent_l%C3%A4derach/

Hotel Chocolat - particularly dizzy pralines, dark chocolate marzipan and those little square milk chocolate and pistachio ones. Delish! What I really like about their chocolate is that it isn't too sweet - most chocolate is far too sugary for my taste.

I'd be devastated to receive a box of Thorntons.

YouNeverCanTellWithBees · 02/12/2023 14:36

Haven't heard of a lot of the brands on here 😅

Just give me a Toblerone. Or anything else gluten free. (Alas no Terry's choc orange allowed)

DrLucyVanPelt · 02/12/2023 14:43

Yes please: Lindor, M&S Italian Collection in the clear bag, Tony's Chocolonely, Toblerone, Terry's Chocolate Orange.

No thanks: Milk Tray, Dairy Box, Thorntons, anything with liqueur in it.

You can get a pouch of Quality Street just Strawberry Creams. They are my favourite but they only seem to sell them at Xmas. DH has a pouch of the Purple one.

You can get the Roses versions all year round at their outlet stores

DrLucyVanPelt · 02/12/2023 14:50

Whittakers or Friars are also good for a proper posh box. Whittakers Black Cherry Creams 🍒 😋

I love these

I’d be delighted with Booja Booja or Charbonel & Walker.

Pretty chuffed with Ferraro Rocher or Guylian.

Bit disappointed with Cadbury or Galaxy.

Pigeon66 · 02/12/2023 16:54

I used to love Thorntons viennese truffles but they have gone really crap. Charbonel Et Walker sea salt caramels are delicious but £££. I love a chocolate orange too.

I really dislike American chocolate and Hotel Chocolat.

bossybloss · 02/12/2023 07:43

Anything by Hotel Chocolat!

Isn't that strange, I cant stand these, I hate them with a passion, and my heart plummets every time, you inevitably have to open them and pretend to enjoy before shoving them into the bottom of the bin when the giver is out of sight

WillowTit · 02/12/2023 17:08

thanks to this thread i have bought myself dh a large box of lindt lindor variety Blush

Family member used to bring back chocolate flavoured dates from the Middle East when they worked out there. They look underwhelming but taste delicious. I'm afraid I prefer the cheaper probably inferior Cadbury's Turkish Delight to the 'proper' stuff. Grew up on it. Love a boozy liqueur chocolate.

Haven't tried Baci or Pierre Marcolini. Another lot to add to the (growing) Christmas wish list. Or Tofiffee - not adding that!

Edited

These are very attractive!! And taste incredible. Often sold out but come back in stock after a few days - last three months. Well, not in our house.

I really love boozy chocolates. In particular champagne ones. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I think they're divine. I also quite like the fact no child will go near them so they're mine, all mine

Oddsocks55 · 02/12/2023 19:38

I have simple tastes, a big bar of dairy milk is perfect.

Not keen on dark chocolate or anything with nuts in.

Errybacious · 02/12/2023 19:56

Booja Booja or Charbonel & Walker have now been added to our family Christmas food list thanks to this thread 😅

I am gluten intolerant which rules out Lindt. Hate Ferrero Rochet

Montezuma Black Forest and Godiva Blood Orange and Masterpieces are pretty darn good.

Would be disappointed with Cadburys or Nestle or basically anything you can pick up from a petrol station!

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/12/2023 20:14

Mill Tray usually. But I also quite like Roses

Grimmz · 02/12/2023 21:35

I'm all about the gigantic toblerone
