I'm ill and have been for weeks and I NEED to get better by Saturday-help!

I started with an ear infection three weeks ago. This developed into tinnitus which is keeping me awake, vertigo (thankfully now receding), a cold and now a horrible heavy chest and cough. I've got no energy, my legs feel like jelly and I've got a temperature on and off. I'm at work (wfh) but doing bare minimum as had two weeks off already and can't afford any more.
It's DD's 18th on Saturday. We are having a big party for it in a marquee in our garden-a joint party with her mate who is also turning 18 and booked ages ago.
I can't cancel it and I cannot be this ill for it.
We have 100 people coming 😭What can I possibly do or take to pep myself up? I finished my antibiotics and I don't want more as they are giving me a bad tummy (on top of everything else)
All I'm taking at the minute is paracetamol , ibuprofen (2 hours apart and for the aches) and honey and lemon in hot water.

Honestly, if you are ill delegate it to someone else. I certainly didn't want my mum at my 18th so I am sure your daughter won't be upset. Stay in the house to keep an eye out if things get out of hand but rest up and recuperate. The caterers and bar staff and security are used to 18ths they'll spot the bad eggs and keep everyone safe.

Caterers, bar staff and security????

Teaspoon of honey, dash of ginger, ditto of turmeric. Mix with a little hot water.
Top up with orange juice.
Repeat until you feel better.

Hope it works in time!

Floradix liquid iron put me back on my feet after illness. Find it in Boots. I’d also take lots of vitamin C

frozendaisy · 30/11/2023 09:06

Talk to the other 18 year old parents first.

If you're ill there is not a great deal you can do. Apart from throw all the pharmaceuticals you can down your neck.

Perhaps go to GP if you can get emergency appointment today, you might need more ABs but it sounds like you need rest. Whicj you say you can't have.

Perhaps a bath a day to relax muscles and steam to clear chest and sinuses.

Early nights

Vit D and multi vitamins

Chest cough medicine with Guaifenesin (benylin non drowsy)

Eat something filling healthy for strength, wholemeal bread and thick soups.
Warm milky drinks.

Hot toddy with whisky at night? Might not help but might make you feel a bit better.

piscofrisco · 30/11/2023 09:11

We do have caterers, bar staff or security. I am all this things! That's the problem!

Berocca - you need a big dose of Vitamin C.

Good, nourishing food.

Plenty of rest and liquids before Saturday to ease your chest and make sure you're as well rested as possible.

Hot baths each day to relax your muscles and again help to loosen any mucus in your chest.

Paracetamol for your temp.

Squirrelsonthescaffolding · 30/11/2023 09:14

You might need to contact gp again if you’re not improving. For tinnitus, so you can sleep, try playing some music, not too interesting audio book, white noise/red noise/pink noise/ocean sounds whatever is the right kind of distraction for you. I think you could find YouTube clips of these that last different lengths of time ‘tinnitus support sounds’. If I can’t sleep I play a Richard Osman book via audible with a 30 min timer. Longer term/if tinnitus is still there/one ear only mention to gp.

Squirrelsonthescaffolding · 30/11/2023 09:22

Ps probably if the volume is just loud enough to mask the tinnitus it will work best.

Exactly, I dont know what planet people are on sometimes

Garlic, ginger, chillis, chicken broth made from bones is what you need.

70sDuvet · 30/11/2023 10:06

I have tinnitus practically constantly
I find that my earbuds used on noise cancelling gives the right "tone" to help me get some sleep.

I'm in the same boat. Feel horrific and going to London for 5 days on Monday. Can hardly drag myself around the house.

Am following for tips

Agree with others about going back to GP. If you need more antibiotics tell them you've had a bad stomach and you may be able to get a stomach protector to help.

I hope your daughter has a fabulous 18th and you can rise to the occasion even if you have to flop again on Sunday!

Newnamesameoldlurker · 30/11/2023 10:09

I find ginger shots a real miracle cure whenever I'm ill. Most supermarkets have the little moju ones. You poor thing, how stressful!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 30/11/2023 10:12

Do you have a partner / your DD's father or friends/ siblings who would be able to help you? What about the parents of the friend whose joint party it is, or the parents of other close friends of your DD? I think you need to prepare for the fact that you may not be as well as you would have hoped on Saturday and consider other adults around you who could step in and share the load .

piscofrisco · 30/11/2023 10:58

I do. Lots of people will help but I know dd will be upset if I'm not properly there :(. I'm just so fed up!
I've added ginger, honey, lemons, turmeric, colds and flu tablets to my online shop to be delivered this aft, and I've done a triage form for the drs which is the only way to get an appointment at mine nowadays.

Whilst waiting for the online shop all we really have in that I can be bothered to eat is a Tiramisu left over from Sunday. So I'm going to polish that off in the hope it gives me some energy if nothing else!

Delegate, delegate, delegate. Get DD to rustle together a gang of reliable friends, your OH, the other girl's parents and anyone else who can lend a hand. You're ill. It won't help your DD if you make yourself worse by playing the early Christian martyr. Good luck

Doggymummar · 30/11/2023 12:52

I did online doctor on Sunday £34.00 including super high dose antibiotics they arrived Tuesday but you would get them tomorrow or even today if you opt for them emailing a prescription and going to fetch them.

Notalldogs23 · 30/11/2023 13:00

Try Ilvico cold and flu treatment - only thing that has ever worked for me.

If you drink, I'd medicate on the day with bucks fizz, but don't start too early.

I agree. Both are excellent.

piscofrisco · 30/11/2023 15:11

I've got Floradix, started yesterday. Will look in to the other things. Thankyou all. I've just done my last meeting of the day and tucked myself into bed with the dog and three episodes of uncanny to distract from the damn tinnitus. Just feel bloody exhausted now.

TravellingT · 30/11/2023 15:13

Vit D+C (they help each other absorb)
B12
Multivitamin
Electrolyte drinks like Purdeys
So much water
Paracetamol on a strict schedule every 4 hours
Lots of garlic and honey in everything!

rose69 · 30/11/2023 15:16

You could try an antibiotic spray for your ears. Has steroid and a pain reliever in it too.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 30/11/2023 15:23

Vitamins. All the vitamins

fruit, veg, good wholesome little house on the prairie food

Water. All the water. You can throw in some fruit teas, honey and lemon teas but ALL. THE. WATER

INeedNewShoes · 30/11/2023 15:29

If you want to throw everything at the issue, I'd do the following:

Don't take paracetamol between now and the party, unless your temp is above 38.5. Below this level your body uses the heat to fight the virus.

Make sure you get enough sleep at night

Make sure you're not too layered up in clothing. Let your skin breathe

Get outside every day for fresh air even if you don't feel like it.

Bath in epsom salts for magnesium

Eat pineapple (especially the core). The bromaline is a strong natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory and is good for chest infections

Eat a rainbow of veg (stir fries are good) for all the vitamins in an absorbable form

If you're not veggie/vegan I recommend Borough Broth bone broth. It costs a bomb but in my view it has magical properties!

Cookerhood · 30/11/2023 15:30

Don't go overboard on vitamin C, you'll just have expensive pee!
Unless you have an infection that needs antibiotics there's not much you can do to hurry along a virus other than take paracetamol, decongestants & lots of fluids - honey & lemon for a sore throat.

TheHawkisHowling · 30/11/2023 15:33

It sounds like what I've got. I was so dizzy I was barely making it to the loo and back last week.

It's a bugger to shift! I doubt there's much you can do but I'd be tempted to dose myself up on sugary energy drinks on the day and just power through.
