I'm not referring to obvious foods such as ice cream or popular top brand processed stuff.
I mean those foods that people often rave about as being particularly special.

I will add truffle and truffle oil to this list, oysters, salmon and veiny cheese can join the mix too Grin

Salmon
Tomatoes
Mushrooms
Blue cheeses
Steak
Greek Yoghurt

My last meal would include steak, blue cheese sauce, fried mushrooms and roasted tomatoes.

Vive la difference Smile

I'd like to think I will eat or try pretty much anything. However, there are some things I absolutely despise:
Chocolate
Marzipan
Raisins/sultanas (and any food they go in - Christmas cake/pudding etc)
Smoky bacon crisps

Pearl barley. It’s tasteless with the texture of chopped gristle.

Kohlrabi
Jerusalem Artichoke

I’m noticing an ‘earthy/farty root vegetable’ theme going here. 😄

Salted caramel 🤢 Salt belongs on my chips, not in my dessert 😡 It actually gives me the rage that everything is salted caramel now and you can't just get normal caramel in pubs/restaurants anymore.

dizzydizzydizzy · 29/11/2023 15:58

Sushi and truffles or truffle oil. Yuck! I'll eat pretty much any other thing.

honeyfox · 29/11/2023 16:26

Lamb. I can't BEAR it!

TurquoiseHexagonSun · 29/11/2023 16:31

I forgot to say mushrooms. How could I forget mushrooms? Ugh.

Marzipan but love almonds

There was a thing about this on Saturday Kitchen the other week - it's because the marzipan you buy in shops has never seen an almond - it's just flavouring and lots of sugar. If you make your own from ground almonds (can't remember the full recipe) it's totally different and far less sweet.
I tested it on DP - who has the same aversion as you - and he really liked it!

@BreakfastAtMilliways

Ha ha yeah! Though I do love beetroot.

My worst time was one January at a vegetarian restaurant For once I thought great I will have a choice! There was only one thing on the menu without bastard Jerusalem artichoke and that was an aubergine dish. Luckily I don't mind it though I rarely cook it.

OopsieeDaisy · 29/11/2023 17:02

Biscoff everything! What is all the fuss about with these cheapo bulk buy biscuits? I can just about tolerate one on the side of my coffee if I’m hungry, but now it’s a spread, ice cream, it’s in cheesecakes, all sickly sweet and disgusting (and I have a sweet tooth!)

enchantedsquirrelwood · 29/11/2023 17:09

Lot of things!

Baked beans
Tuna
Hot chocolate
Red meat
Brie

are the ones that come to mind though.

I actually like the smell of bacon but would never eat it as I don't eat pork or any other red meat.

Not sure any of them count as "special" though.

lifesrichpageant · 30/11/2023 06:40

Risotto - so overrated - bland rice pablum yuckkiness

Dubbledup · 30/11/2023 06:44

Bowl food. seems to be all the rage. Our work Xmas party is no longer a sit down roast but a standing party with bowl food. So cold falafel, pulses and couscous. I cannot tolerate cold mounds of various textures in the same vicinity.

sashh · 30/11/2023 06:57

Strawberries, they are pure evil.

Also grilled tomatoes, fiune raw, fine in a pasta sauce but the smell when they are grilled.

gettingolderbutcooler · 30/11/2023 07:04
