Foods that you just don't like but others seem to love!

I'm not referring to obvious foods such as ice cream or popular top brand processed stuff.
I mean those foods that people often rave about as being particularly special.

I will add truffle and truffle oil to this list, oysters, salmon and veiny cheese can join the mix too Grin

They seem like they should be nice but bleugh!

RainbowSky1 · 28/11/2023 17:59

Creme egg

LesLavandes · 28/11/2023 18:00

Olives

Zamzamzamdeedah · 28/11/2023 18:00

Truffle. Yes just not great, actually terrible.
Avocado. 🤷 What's the fuss about
Kimchi. Which os weird because I like every single ingredient that goes in! Love sauerkraut
Jackfruit. No it is NOT like pulled meat

Zamzamzamdeedah · 28/11/2023 18:01

I used to hate olives until I started eating the better ones whivh I now really enjoy😂 Like hated. Couldn't even swallow them

Floopani · 28/11/2023 18:01

Salted caramel and cows milk are mine.

But give me all the truffle, salmon, blue cheese etc because I love it!

AllAroundMyCat · 28/11/2023 18:02

Halloumi ( nasty squeaky substance)
Shellfish ( texture's all wrong)
Pate
Coffee

weegiemum · 28/11/2023 18:04

Lamb
Any kind of mince (though I think that's a texture thing rather than taste)
Raw fish - can't stand sushi
Tea. Yep, the humble cuppa makes me boak!

Elendel · 28/11/2023 18:05

Caviar - why would I pay so much for something that tastes like fish sick?

ViolaCello · 28/11/2023 18:05

Bacon and olives are my spirit animal Grin

My dad used to run a small continental cheese business when I was a child. Oh my god the smells! Thanks to this I only very tentatively began to approach cheese in my late teens, and then with extreme caution. I started with Laughing Cow, Primula, lol, then worked my way up, year by year, all the way to gouda, mozzarella and lovely creamy wensleydale with ginger.
I still can't stomach the veiny stuff and am standoffish with the French varieties.

Goats cheese - my father used to say it tastes like a goat smells, and I don’t think he’s far wrong

Completely agree

Cadburysucks · 28/11/2023 18:07

Eggs, unless in a cake.

TooShortToReachThatShelf · 28/11/2023 18:08

Olives
Hummus
Truffle oil
Halloumi

Dontcallmescarface · 28/11/2023 18:10

Bacon
Roast potatoes
Chips

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/11/2023 18:15

Oysters, at least when raw. Vastly overrrated IMO. I wasn’t remotely surprised to learn that in Dickens’ time they were considered poor people’s food!

Goat’s cheese - can’t stand the smell or the taste, though I love most cheeses.
Cream. 🤮
Fennel. The only vegetable I really don’t like.
Peanuts and peanut butter.

Libertass · 28/11/2023 18:22

I enjoy my food and I’m very much an omnivore, the opposite of a fussy eater. I love a lot of strongly flavoured things which are commonly disliked, eg olives, anchovies, dark chocolate, blue cheese, game meats, sushi, Guinness etc etc.

Even I draw the line at oysters, though. It’s not the briny flavour, it’s the revolting slimy texture which makes me retch uncontrollably. 🤮, literally.

SABM10 · 28/11/2023 18:25

Lamb! It was (and still is) my mum's go-to for a 'fancy' roast as if it was a big treat. I hate it.

Cold/unmelted butter. Lovely melted on toast etc but it makes me gag in sandwiches.

Oysters.

Any form of fruit/ sweet sauce with a savoury dish. So mint or cranberry sauce with a roast, duck in orange sauce, Chinese sweet and sour, etc etc.

Any form of dried fruit.

AffIt · 28/11/2023 18:25

Hot chocolate. It's neither one thing nor t'other and a waste of perfectly good calories I could be using on something else.

See also: macaroni cheese (I refuse to call it 'mac n' cheese'). I mean, it's fine in principle, but I don't understand the current obsession with it.

Putting things on chips. Curry sauce is acceptable post-pub, but what essentially amounts to a whole meal?

Poached eggs. Revolting. Basically snot (actually, any kind of egg yolk gives me the shivers).

I love smoked salmon, but can't abide fresh salmon, with a very limited exception for cold poached salmon in a salad (and even then only if the skin has been removed, because I refuse to believe that anybody actually likes cold, flabby fish skin).

Sea bass. When did this become the fish du jour? Texture is horrible and it's tasteless. So many nice fish out there and this is what we get.

I promise I'm not a fussy eater, btw...

Topsy44 · 28/11/2023 18:27

Crème Caramel. It’s just wrong.

Boska23 · 28/11/2023 18:29

Can't stand caviar, oysters or lamb - smell, texture, taste all equally horrible to me.

TheChosenTwo · 28/11/2023 18:31

Definitely houmus (don’t know how to spell the bloody thing!), revolting synthetic smelling thing with a grainy texture. Grim.

I love chillis onions and garlic though, barely a day goes by where I don’t eat all 3!

Doginthebed · 28/11/2023 18:31

Wine 🍷

TellySavalashairbrush · 28/11/2023 18:32

Tuna
anything cooked on a barbecue
Egg mayonnaise

Clevs · 28/11/2023 18:32

Coffee
Peas

emmetgirl · 28/11/2023 18:33

I don't drink tea or coffee. They're vile.
I don't mind the smell of coffee but it's yuck to taste. The smell of tea actually makes me want to throw up.
I don't drink anything hot come to think of it.
