Does anyone NOT have a hobbie?

mafsafanuk · 26/11/2023 22:14

I don't think I have any 'hobbies' I enjoy chilling and watching Netflix once the kids are in bed but I'm unable to think of any activities I am really interested in enough to consider them a hobby. Does anyone else NOT have a hobbie? Is it ok not to have one?

Im the same as you.
i mean I love going to the cinema and used to like running, but haven't ran since before pregnancy.

TeenLifeMum · 26/11/2023 22:17

Me. Dc will say my hobby is running… I hate running but love food so do it out of necessity and health concern. Curled up on the sofa watching Netflix with a cup of herbal tea is my perfect evening (which is a bit tragic I guess).

AlltheFs · 26/11/2023 22:19

My DH is perfectly happy without one. Of course it is fine.

Mine (horses) is an expensive PITA tbh (but I am not me without it).

Beaverbridge · 26/11/2023 22:19

Me. Go swimming occasionally but it's not a hobby as such.

Tafaa · 26/11/2023 22:20

I'd love to have time for one 😅

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 26/11/2023 22:21

I don’t have any hobbies. When I get to relax I’m happy in front of the tv or playing with the kids.

Nutellaonall · 26/11/2023 22:23

I had hobbies before I had kids. Now I go to the gym. But that’s not exactly a hobby. Plan to have lots of hobbies when the kids are grown and flown again. Right now they are my priority. I try to think of it as embracing each life stage.

Exactly the same as me. I have horses as my hobby but my DH doesn't have any hobbies unless you can count fixing all the things the horses break 😬

pizzaHeart · 26/11/2023 22:25

Neither DH nor I have any, unless you will count my MNing. We do like doing certain things e.g he likes DIY but it’s not a hobby he only does what necessary and when necessary, he just doesn’t mind doing this.
tbh we just too busy with our life.

Devilsmommy · 26/11/2023 22:26

If reading's a hobby that's mine. Don't really do anything else, especially not exercising 🤣

TheChosenTwo · 26/11/2023 22:28

I do exercise but I don’t class it as a hobby, it’s taking care of my health, same as brushing my teeth!
I don’t have a hobby and I’m okay with that, I’m busy enough and don’t know where I’d fit one in 😂

Conniethecatapillar · 26/11/2023 22:29

@Tafaa same 😹

IsDieHardAChristmasFilm · 26/11/2023 22:30

Nothing unless you call going to the cinema a hobby.

XMissPlacedX · 26/11/2023 22:32

My hobby is sleeping, if I have an hour to spare and the kids and husband aren't in the house I'll go to bed and have a nap 💤 ( not sure that it really counts as a hobby )

@XMissPlacedX It’s a nice hobby you have!

Aroundthewaygirl · 26/11/2023 23:48

I used to have a couple of hobbies but being perimenopausal and having a string of bad circumstances the past decade all I do these days is chill and watch tv/movies. I don’t have the drive for anything else.

drowninginjelly · 27/11/2023 12:52

Why isn't browsing online and reading forums like MN a hobby?

Sugarfree23 · 27/11/2023 12:56

Hobby doesn't need to be doing, like being active, reading or crafting.
Hobbys can be passive, listening to music, watching TV.

dontgobaconmyheart · 27/11/2023 13:04

It's fine OP. They don't make you a better type of person.

I don't think I have one, but did have a friend argue recently that I read a lot and that counts- jury's out for me on that one.

Otherwise I've got absolutely nothing I could claim. Obviously I could at any given time go and take something up and occasionally consider it but the urge isn't really there to the extent I want to invest sums of money and time or spend hours a week attending something to facilitate it.

I like pottering at home, reading fiction and non fiction (books and online), playing the odd board game if I can find a willing party, visiting things like Christmas markets, historical houses and gardens, art galleries and independent shops ro buy silly little souvenirs and spending time with my dog. Perfectly happy with that and myself.

PepsiMaxLime · 27/11/2023 13:10

I don’t either, and never really had. I did clubs at school but I wouldn’t say I’m particularly good at anything, I’m not musical, sporty or creative so I’m not really sure what hobby I could have/do.

I do love reading, but consider this more a form of entertainment than a hobby? Also love listening to podcasts but that’s definitely not a hobby!

Sugarfree23 · 27/11/2023 13:15

Is a hobby not something you do to pass time and for enjoyment?

Which means things like reading, hill walking, gardening and visiting museums are hobbies ?

Sugarfree23 · 27/11/2023 13:19

Wikipedia definition of Hobby.
A hobby is considered to be a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. Hobbies include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements.

Mumsneting & Duolingoing could be classed as hobbies.

Footprintsinthesand · 27/11/2023 13:33

If you mean like an organised activity, no. I used to be a choir and go to dancing lessons but since having children and working long hours it's too much of an effort! I get enjoyment from days out with the kids and the very occasional meal out/theatre trip. Rest of the time my "hobbies" include collapsing on the sofa and playing with my phone. I hope I'll be able to take up some sort of hobby when they're older

More of a pastime than a hobby though.

Another definition is

an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.
"her hobbies are reading and gardening".

Note - reading!

For the pp who mentioned horses, hobby is also an archaic term for small pony so you have a possible double hobby!

And the pp who loves visiting Christmas markets and historic houses and the like - to me, those are all hobbies and good ones too!
