I am on the brink of tearing my house apart looking for a my son's waterproof coat. He wore it to scouts last week (and brought it home) and that was the last time it was seen. It's like the bloody X Files. I've looked high and low and gone through the last week's worth of Ring video. Defo came home from scouts. Defo didn't wear it out again - but absolutely not a sign of it anywhere. Is it some sort of dimension hopping alien?! What is going on?

All wardrobes have been eviscerated but no joy.

It’s sitting underneath some other stuff. Either in or under another jacket or other clothes. Hiding in plain sight

(I say this as someone who has just done something similar, and finally found said item hiding under a pile of clothes and CDs)

In the laundry basket? My DC put everything in there by default 🙄

I found my AirPods in a bag I have put rubbish in to put in the bin, put the bag in the outside bin and had to go fish it out and there they were. I would have sworn I hadn't been that stupid. Just glad I found them!

It will be with my dd's waterproof trousers. She wore them to a fireworks night two years ago and we've not seen them since. They'd have done her wee brother so I periodically look for them. Every cupboard, bag, car etc have all been checked. It's impossible that they've disappeared but yet here we are.

It’s hairbrushes for me. I own 3, but can only locate 1 of them most of the time - so when that one disappears from view, I’m stuffed. They usually pop up in a bag I’m sure I checked previously, before disappearing again. I live alone so can’t blame anyone else for moving them - but it drives me up the wall

My hairbrush went missing when the boys were little and it turned up 6 months later under the middle of one of their mattresses - I still have no idea how.

Would the word be ‘disappeared’?

From your first post my thought was “it’s in a bag”. It’s probably in a bag that you think contains something else. A bag of recycling? A sport or work bag? School bag?

Check areas where other people might have tidied things away this weekend. I lost a sleeping bag. Everyone insisted they hadn’t seen it. A year later it was found in our shed in a bag everyone else was convinced contained beach toys.

I had this with keys the other day. I'd tipped my handbag out 3 times. I then in desperation prayed to St Anthony and 5minutes later, there they were, in the bloody handbag.

Garage, shed, back of door hook (under dressing gown), in carrier bag in carrier bag drawer. In a sports bag in one of the hundreds of compartments, foes it zip into a bigger coat? Fit inside coat pocket,? Cupboard under stairs? And when you've tried everywhere, go back to the most obvious place and recheck.

It will be with the bright red handbag of mine that disappeared last Easter. Poof!!! Vanished. With purse, cards, work pass and Kindle. All gone. When it turns up, I bet my flabber will be ghasted.

If you put it in a bag, did you then travel in the car? If so have you checked the boot and under the seats?

If i did put it in a bag it didn't go out the front door as it wasn't on the doorbell vid. And I can reassure @Hmindr68 that there is no risk that anyone else tidied up - more's the pity.

Ok, so I appreciate that not everyone is as much of a slovernly person as me, but in my house if I put a thin waterproof coat into a bag intending to take it out and then didn't, the bag could easily end up in one of the following places:

• on/behind/under the sideboard by the front door
• on/behind/under the dining room table
• behind/under the sofa
• the hooks where the coats live
• the basket where the hats and gloves live
• the cupboard where the bags for life gets shoved

School bag?

It's not one of those little thin jackets though. It's not lined but it's not a slip of a thing.

Has it slithered down behind a bookcase or something? We have a little chest that we put bags in and if we can't find anything we always check behind, that's where stuff usually is!
