I don't want to go out - anyone else like this??

Single parent, very very rarely go out. The last time I had a proper "night out" was my friends wedding in January.

Works Xmas party tonight. My parents will have the dc. I have transport arranged (live in the middle of nowhere) I have a full outfit sorted rhat I'm happy with.

I just can't be arsed. I can't be bothered to get ready (paint nails , shave legs, could do with colouring my hair etc). I won't have regrets about not going. I will almost certainly have a good night. Argh.

I feel similar. I don't bother doing my nails anymore as they get too wrecked with housework. As for shaving at this time of the year I'm not going bare legs anywhere so can get away without shaving - just shower , blow dry the hair and lob a bit of make up on and will be grand.

The shoes require painted toenails and it's bare legs under my dress. I'm yak like atm

Oh do go - it's always a bit of an effort to heave yourself out of your comfortable rut, but it's worth doing once in a while just to know that you can. Maybe you will have an amazing evening and think "I should do this more often", or maybe you will think "That wasn't really worth the effort - glad I don't do it often", but either way I think it is better to go and find out. You can stay in every other night.

Bemyclementine · 25/11/2023 11:41

That's exactly it @TheYearOfSmallThings . Also because it's so rare, and it's winter, I'm def not anywhere near night out ready . If it was summer and I was wearing sandals bare legs most days some it the prep would be done.

I just don't have the will to do it all.

Very thought of bare legs in December makes me shudder 😖

Finlesswonder · 25/11/2023 11:54

Its not 2006, put on jeans, a nice top and brush your hair

2024writeanovel · 25/11/2023 11:57

Go out and be grateful you don’t have any chin hairs to deal with yet. Come back early if you want to. It’s good for your kids to see you being sociable take it from me I’m a home body too and I have to force myself sometimes but I always leave early because I get really tired after 10pm.

Enjoy.

Bemyclementine · 25/11/2023 11:57

🤣 I will be spectacularly underdressed in jeans. Its a Christmas party. Dress is long, but legs will be bare.

Bemyclementine · 25/11/2023 11:58

@2024writeanovel I've plucked the (as yet) singular chin hair!

You're kind of making that work for yourself. Tights and a closed toe.

Bemyclementine · 25/11/2023 11:59

I know @TinkerTiger but it's what I've got that works. I can't afford to buy something else.

I would most certainly go .Its always an effort to get dolled up .However when you are there, it will be a chance to have a chat to colleagues and relax without DC. Its one night after all .Tomorrow you can relax and on Monday you can chat with friends and relive it!

xogossipgirlxo · 25/11/2023 12:06

Just think of it as task to be done, you will feel good afterwards when it’s out of the way😂 Shaving legs is 5 minutes work, it’s painting the nails that’s worse. I hate it, takes ages to dry. What colour have you chosen?

Comefromaway · 25/11/2023 12:09

my husband is like this. He never wants to go anywhere. When we do go out he always wants to be the first to leave. Drives me nuts. I’ve started going out on my own now.

but I have to ask. How can shoes require painted toenails? Do you mean they are open toed? I wear open toed shoes and never paint my toenails.

Bobsyouraunty · 25/11/2023 12:09

I would encourage you to go out. Normally I’d say miss it if you can’t be bothered but you haven’t been out in nearly a year. And I think it’s healthy to go out sometimes obviously at a pace that right for you. But you should try and schedule outings with friends etc. I’m not sure if it’s mentally/socially healthy to go out once a year.

Bobsyouraunty · 25/11/2023 12:11

…although having just read that it’s a Christmas party….I see why you don’t want to go 🥲🤣🤣

Bemyclementine · 25/11/2023 12:14

@Bobsyouraunty possibly the lack of going out is why I cba. I rarely get the opportunity. Which makes me think I should go tonight.

Just shave your legs to sock level

megletthesecond · 25/11/2023 12:29

Same here. Lone working parent. I last went out in the evening in 2018 and 2015 😎.

floweringinferno · 25/11/2023 12:38

Oh I feel you OP. I only want go out if its close/near by. I don't have to get 'ready ready' and a bit of slap and a quick hair brush will do. Ĺ I just cannot be bothered what so ever. I would rather stay in. Or go out Lunchtime and home by 10pm.

Bemyclementine · 25/11/2023 13:10

@megletthesecond sod it I might stay in then 🤣

OP posts:
Bemyclementine · 25/11/2023 13:12

I'm conscious that I sduck out of things a lot. Often can't be avoided, childcare or transport, but also plenty of not going because I cba.

Several colleagues are good friends. They wouldn't be surprised if I didn't go.

LadyBird1973 · 25/11/2023 13:20

I think you should go. And tbh, even if you never went out ever, I'd still say you should shave your legs and paint your toenails - it's important to look after yourself. I know others will disagree about the 'necessity' of doing these things but to me they are signs of self care and I always feel better about myself when I've done them , even if it's a pita at the time.

You might have a really good time and if not, it's just one evening

mrsbyers · 25/11/2023 13:25

Pour yourself a glass of something nice and have a leisurely bath with some music on and get the shaving done
