This is why you shouldn't read your emails in public

Just received an email from a colleague - the email was entitled "Shits Today". She's sent it to approximately 100 people and I wish, more than I've wished for anything in a long time, that I could see a) her face when she realises what she's sent, and b) read the replies she gets.

Im in a cafe and am trying very very hard not to laugh out loud!

Can I tell you my favourite spoonerism? Well never mind, I'll tell you anyway. In a radio Hancock's Half Hour, Bill Goodwin was supposed to say "There's a squirrel, Sid!". But instead he said "There's a Cyril, squid!" , then went off into such a giggling fit that Tony Hancock and Sid James had to say all the rest of his lines for him. I love old live stuff ! ❤

Flyinggeesei234 · 23/11/2023 15:38

Years ago working in a recruitment advertising agency someone managed
to get an advert printed in the newspaper for opportunities at the Cuntess of Chester
hospital.

The cutting lived in someone’s desk drawer for years. Absolute classic.

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 23/11/2023 15:44

One of my favourite spoonerisms was when my late DF announced that DM was a fully paid up member of the Royal Knowledge of Cursing.

(Well, she did remark that photos made her look like ‘a downmarket version of the [late] Queen).

Squirrelvcat · 23/11/2023 15:44

Yes hope some of the miserable responses didn’t put too much of a downer on your mood OP.

PoppyOrange · 23/11/2023 15:57

ManateeFair · 23/11/2023 15:12

Perhaps she is, but that's a lot better than being a miserable cow who can't wait to sneer at someone's else's harmless enjoyment, isn't it?

Indeed it is @ManateeFair you should know

OnGoldenPond · 23/11/2023 16:04

Well I'm sat here giggling out loud at this thread so I guess I'm as childish as you OP. Ah well! Grin

Fraca · 23/11/2023 16:09

My friend's df once asked for stiffy tocky pudding. I'm laughing out loud again ...

heartsinvisiblefury · 23/11/2023 16:14

Blimey if that has caused you to laugh this much I'd be questioning your sense of humour

Ollifer · 23/11/2023 16:15

There's nothing wrong with being 'easily amused', what's the point in life if you can't enjoy a bloody good giggle now and again! I'd love for a few of the sour faced posters to let us know what constitutes as funny and at what point it's acceptable to laugh in public at something.

TurquoiseHexagonSun · 23/11/2023 16:15

Fraca · 23/11/2023 12:17

It was meant to say "Shifts Today".

Ah yeah, I should have guessed - I had brain tumbleweed when I asked. 😄

ginasevern · 23/11/2023 16:19

It would make me giggle as well OP and the beautiful thing is that you have encouraged others to share similarly daft/rude typos. The miserable posters have had a chance to smear bile all over their keyboards, so I guess they're happy in their own little way too.

Quoting myself to correct myself! My friend has just reminded me that her dad didn't ask for Stiffy tocky pudding, he in fact asked for stiffy cocky pudding.

So, who has the sense of humour? The person who laughs or the one who can't see the funny side? 🤔

AngelasEyelash · 23/11/2023 16:52

I knew someone who told the office she was painting her dildo rail that weekend.

ManAboutTown · 23/11/2023 16:54

There was a really famous one that did the rounds in the City about 20 years ago.

Was from a PA complaining about the way paper clips got messed up by the photocopier

She wrote:

"It sucks clits like an industrial vacuum cleaner"

By the time it reached me it had been forwarded by about 50 people

Livinginanotherworld · 23/11/2023 17:09

I love these kind of threads, a little smile then builds into a chuckle, by the time you’re a few pages in you are snorting with laughter (particularly in the middle of the night trying not to wake dh) it kind of builds and builds.

LlynTegid · 23/11/2023 17:13

OP I hope you did not laugh so much you hurt yourself or had an 'accident'. Your observation is well made!!

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 23/11/2023 17:13

The public/pubic typo is one that anyone who works in the public sector is usually very alert to, so it was surprising that it had slipped through. Particularly given that it was written in letters that, when projected, were about a metre high.

It can work the other way too: there's a hairdresser in Nottingham called 'Public Hair', but then I'm pretty sure that they did it on purpose (Lynn) Grin

wellaintthatsomeshite · 23/11/2023 17:20

My colleague once sent a picture of a woman trying to stuff a frozen chicken up her minge to a work distribution email (that I was a part of), and copied in a customer.

We had to pretend he had been hacked.

I cry laughed for about 3 weeks.

wellaintthatsomeshite · 23/11/2023 17:25

Accidentally I should add.
He said his phone did it whilst "in his pocket" 😂

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 23/11/2023 17:34

my friend got a reminder from a family member the day before official summertime ends to remind everyone that 'tonight cocks go black'. Everytime we change the time I think of it and laugh.

Am loving the examples here, keep them coming!

Cupcakekiller · 23/11/2023 17:37

That would make me giggle too OP!

Proper proper laughing out loud at this. Fortunately I'm at home now and presumably allowed to lol at whatever I please!

I don't know about reading emails in public but the Mumsnet thread last weekend in which the OP was unable to remove the PornHub logo from her Google browser had me crying with laughter whilst waiting for a train.
I was getting very funny looks!
