This is why you shouldn't read your emails in public

Just received an email from a colleague - the email was entitled "Shits Today". She's sent it to approximately 100 people and I wish, more than I've wished for anything in a long time, that I could see a) her face when she realises what she's sent, and b) read the replies she gets.

Im in a cafe and am trying very very hard not to laugh out loud!

This reminds me of a work trip. A colleague sent out a message to a large number of people reminding them to bring their willies (he meant wellies) 🤣.

As a "miserable twat" my opinion is just as valid on this thread as those who think a one letter typo is beyond hilarious. I wish my brain was that small it would solve a whole host of issues.

Why be nasty ?

This reminds me of an enjoyable afternoon for myself and colleagues in the NHS . Someone from a random trust sent an e mail, which obviously wasn’t meant for me - boring admin stuff, nothing confidential. We quickly realised the whole department had it. Then we started receiving e mails from across England, replying to the original. Some were polite, some snarky - and the penny began to to drop that the sender of the original had “ sent to all” - but had somehow sent it to every e mail in the nhs , not just her group. The people replying had also pressed “ reply to all “ - and some helpfully added a read receipt. It got more and more heated as people got angrier and angrier with all these unwanted replies to an e mail that wasn’t for them to start with! We’d cottoned on by this point and were reading out the more batshit angry replies to each other , before sadly the whole system crashed .

I loved that day. My favourite bit was the people replying to tell people to stop replying.

When it comes to very specific (and very amusing) German words, Backpfeifengesicht has to be one of the best - meaning a face that is just begging to be slapped Grin

I love that one.

I am also unreasonably amused by "Durchfall" ( = "through-fall" = diarrhoea).

There are some seriously miserable buggers on this thread.

A childish sense of humour makes the world go round. Thank you for all the giggles this evening!

Hush now Mrs Miseryguts. No one cares about your opinion. Plenty of other threads for your sanctimony.

I think the typos are amusing and have enjoyed reading them, same as the majority.

Herethere123 · 24/11/2023 20:25

I shared a document with a draft obiturary notice after my grandmother died. My sibling pointed out an unfortunate typo referring to her as a 'very dead mother and grandmother'. I was mortified but I think she'd have quite enjoyed it.

ILoveEYFS · 24/11/2023 20:28

I am at home so can LOL 😆
It was inset day for my son and. As I work in a school. I asked the Head if I could bring him in, except I emailed every single member of staff 🤦‍♀️. Cue 45 emails saying it was OK with them 🤦‍♀️

And also Durchfall's arch enemy, Verstopfung!

German is fantastic!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/11/2023 20:30

Do the kill joys go to art galleries and loudly announce which paintings they think are crap? Or start bellowing declarations in the cinema that the film is rubbish?

Sadly, they probably do!

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 24/11/2023 20:45

Football absolutely bores me to tears and I cannot for the life of me understand why anybody would like it.

I cope with this by never going to matches or watching it on TV and leaving those activities for those who do enjoy it - as they have every right to do so.

Were I to feel the need to turn up regularly at Anfield and make a massive scene in the crowds about how pointless I thought it all was, I can't imagine that in any way being a positive experience either for me or for the fans: very much a lose/lose situation all around.

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 24/11/2023 20:54

Best typo in a work email at my place was ‘drinks and nipples’. Ten years later, it’s still the go to phrase!

Fellow German speaker here. Durchfall's a great word! 😄

SeaUrchinHat · 24/11/2023 21:07

I feel that people who comment negatively on this type of light-hearted post are not as mature as they like to think, as surely any self-respecting adult would understand the concept of a different sense of humour?

I'd have sniggered too OP (and then done something on my phone to make it look like I was messaging someone rather than laughing to myself, which I have found is somehow frowned upon).

sclarke624 · 24/11/2023 21:23

Gave daughter a kiddy golf voucher for grandkids. When she went to use it the guy gave it back to her and said don't worry about it I just took the £10 off you can use it next time. She told me this in a WhatsApp message. I replied, "well next time you go just make sure you take SNUFF money with you, if he doesn't let you use it". Should have said enough money.

I once sent a suggestive email to my boyfriend, only I managed to send it to the MD! a few meetings and a grovelling apology by me (early twenties, attractive) a very amused overweight middle aged MD.

I could have died! always check sender...I never did it again.

Oh god that reminds me of a mortifying incident at a temp admin job when I was about 19. Not sure what possessed me but I was so bored I wrote a rather rude ‘memo’ to my BF slagging off how tedious the job was and signed it off (as you do!) ‘hugs and handjobs xx’ - but when I printed it nothing happened, so I just deleted the note and assumed the printer was down. clearly my tiny brain did not consider the fact the print job was still in the system…

next morning I rocked up, only to be called straight into the boss’ office - as soon as I walked in I saw the print out on his desk and he just raised his eyebrows and said ‘I don’t think there’s anything else to say really, is there?’ Not sure who was more embarrassed but I mumbled an agonised apology and did the walk of shame straight to the exit. Naturally the temp agency black listed me from then on … 😆

bumblenbean · 24/11/2023 21:34

Another slightly more innocent error happened the other week in fact…

I’m a lawyer (if you can believe it lol) and was sending an email about adjustments at court for 2 deaf witnesses, in which I wrote ‘unfortunately the usual setup won’t work in this case, as two of the witnesses are dead and require an interpreter to communicate’.

Luckily I only sent it to a couple of people (other lawyers rather than clients / third parties), but I still cringe remembering it. And I’m normally so anal about proof reading!

Spudlover · 24/11/2023 21:36

Made me chuckle OP, and I genuinely laughed out loud at the frozen chicken!

Im fine with being easily pleased, it means I’m often happy.

Fraca · 24/11/2023 21:47

Yeah life is hard sometimes so it's good to find humour, whatever we class as humour, in our every day lives.

Ive remembered another incident, not a typo but nonetheless funny - in hindsight.

My cousin had been to gay Mardi Gras and was trying to send pictures to my phone. They didn't seem to be coming through so he said "give me your phone, maybe you've got the wrong settings or something". Duly handed my phone over.

I still have no idea to this day (and neither does he) what he did, but he somehow sent all his pictures to everyone in my contact list. The pictures were, um, shall we say flamboyant ? I had a pretty large list consisting of work colleagues and contacts, medical people involved in dh's care, parents of dc's friends etc.

Am I missing something? This seems to me more about issue of sending than of reading in public. Or are you saying that it's humiliating to laugh in public?

SeaUrchinHat · 24/11/2023 22:04

You're very easily amused OP.

When did that become a bad thing?? To be able to find joy in small things?

Thank you OP, this thread is one of the best I've read in ages. Nothing better than a good guffaw before bed!
