It's on the iplayer it's so depressing! Is the book this depressing? It's full of like little meaningful quotes.

Completely agree, utter rubbish. I remember thinking I was reading the mad ramblings of a lunatic 🤣

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 22/11/2023 20:26

It's a trite load of shite that many people inexplicably think is profound

panca · 22/11/2023 20:27

I'm not even halfway through it! It's so depressing I don't feel motivated or uplifted? It's dire.

It's utter word salad

Oh thank god, I thought it was just me that thought it was maudlin tripe. I've found my people.

Firefly2009 · 22/11/2023 20:36

I like some of the quotes. I don't think I'd like a series though; I didn't know there was one

I think it was on TV last Xmas and my god, the amount of simpering and sobbing that was happening on here!

I watched it to see what all the fuss was about and wished I hadn't bothered!

Ahhh! Maybe it's better after a couple of glasses of port?

I used to use some of the quotes when I was a teacher. That was about it and I never really got the point of the book myself. Can imagine a programme would be a snooze fest but I’m emotionally stunted. 😂

SweetBirdsong · 22/11/2023 21:36

Hated it! Over-rated tosh! 😖

PotatoWafflerWrites · 22/11/2023 21:42

So pleased to hear people echoing my thoughts here! I found it trite and unoriginal, someone lovely gave me the book for Christmas last year and I found it utterly overrated. Haven't watched the show because it would annoy me to much. I see people sharing the images and quotes on Facebook from time to time and they annoy me almost as much as the winnie the pooh supposed quotes, written as if by the original author, but they are also trite nonsense about mental health or some such.

Phew, that feels better!

AutumnFroglets · 22/11/2023 21:45

I saw it at Christmas and thought it was an over hyped guilt fest. Some quotes could be meaningful in isolation but generally it didn't lift you up like I think it intended to be.

Yes it seemed really glum!

It makes me think of lockdown. Agree it’s trite.

It's awful. A lot of the drawings are pretty crap too. Horses with mysteriously melting legs and the like. The animators of the tv version did a great job of making the artwork alot better. They couldn't do much for the weird mole though.

Olinguita · 22/11/2023 23:37

Trite, dismal, and almost nihilistically banal. I could not understand the fawning over it. So glad I am not alone in feeling this way.

AreWeNearlyHairnet · 22/11/2023 23:47

I like some of the standalone illustrations and quotes. But the TV programme just strung them together with no plot or reason.
It was like someone just reading out a basket of twee fridge magnets for 30 minutes.

Inkanta · 23/11/2023 05:04

Thank goodness - I'm not the only one. Was given the book as a present as well. Self indulgent, sentimentalised, woe is me, I'm all alone in the world - I feel so sorry for myself bollocks. Saw a documentary on the author. Self absorbed. Book taken to charity shop. Poor charity shop😊

Yes maudlin is the word. Like slurred speech, drunken self pitying - maudlin.

Justleaveitblankthen · 23/11/2023 06:15

Oh it was utter rubbish!
We saved it to watch with Trifle on Xmas night..absolutely awful!
One of those '2 page spreads' the Daily Mail TV Guide devote to every year I think they are paid to do this
Inevitably always a let down.

FallingAutumnLeaf · 23/11/2023 06:20

I really, really struggle with the "font". It takes me ages to read one quote, I've never read more than pages used as quotes in presentations or magazines

AwkwardSquad · 23/11/2023 06:24

Oh my goodness yes! So, so trite and twee. Twee as fuck. I have a lovely friend who’ll occasionally quote bits of it while I smile awkwardly and try not to show my rising nausea. I realise this makes me sound insufferable but hey, if the coat fits!

Teatrayderby · 23/11/2023 06:26

Sounds like a book that would be livened up by a few lasers and a 'bad guy'.
