How cold is your bedroom if your heating is off?

My boiler is currently not working so have had no heating in the bedrooms since Thursday. Downstairs we have an electric heater to make things bearable but my bedroom is now 14.5 degrees and it’s cold!!! I do have a warm duvet and quilt but it’s still too cold for me. My ideal bedroom temperature is around 18 degrees.

19 degrees. I'm pretty sure the heating has not come on in my bedroom yet. I've two zones downstairs and the kitchen area is 22 degrees, again with no heating. The other room is currently 18 but has heating during the day. It's a very old house with a very new extension and a huge amount of insulation.
Hope your heating is sorted soon.

Thelnebriati · 22/11/2023 00:59

Apparently its 4 degrees outside, and ours is 16 degrees right now, so its cool but bearable. Its on the sunny side of the house and well insulated, we've used the oven and the tumble dryer this evening and they always help.

Notcontent · 22/11/2023 01:04

I am in a Victorian terrace which has had new windows and roof insulation but it’s not possible to insulate the external walls unfortunately.

Currently 20 degrees with a window open. In the SE.
could you either move the heater upstairs or sleep downstairs if it can’t be moved?

GrumpyPanda · 22/11/2023 01:13

15 degrees here and comfortable. There's no way I would have the heating on overnight unless it's severely below zero, just gets too stuffy. In fact the window stays slightly ajar overnight 11 months or so. You say you have a warm duvet, now all you need is flannel PJs and sheets, as well as proper bed socks 😀

Hedgesfullofbirds · 22/11/2023 01:50

Never have heating in the bedroom - it is far too stuffy, unhealthy and stifling - and sleep with the window open all year round to let fresh air in, so, currently, whatever the ambient temperature outside is. Currently 6 degrees I believe.

But I have no central heating anyway as I cannot bear being too warm and am used to working outside, all day, every day, regardless of the weather

I might have the weirdest answer. I live in a bus that's been converted to a tiny home and currently in the mountains, so it would be about -1 without heat. I have an electric blanket and a small electric heater so it's very cozy! One morning before I started turning the heater on I found some water frozen in the bottom of my kitchen sink. I know a woman who lives in a van in Northern Canada who has survived without heat for 8 years! I could never, I'm more suited for Spring or Autumn temps for sure.

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 22/11/2023 02:16

I'm a bit weird. Think it's about 8C in my bedroom. I have a duvet cover on the bed (no duvet) and a thin blanket. Window open and fan on!

Think it may be something to do with my disabilities, I overheat all year round.

Sholkedabemus · 22/11/2023 02:20

The radiator is permanently off in the bedroom. It was 18c in here when I came to bed. We live in a new house that stays warm.

RichPetunia · 22/11/2023 02:40

I've stopped running the heating in everywhere but the living room. Works well to be honest as I bought an oil filled radiator so am always toasty downstairs. Upstairs I've no idea what the temp is but it's pretty cold. My bed now has a duvet, an old fashioned eiderdown quilt and a throw. Also a hot water bottle too and a dog 🤣. I've just opened my window cause its so warm 🤩

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 22/11/2023 03:10

I've never had heating in a bedroom and no idea what the temperature is - but it feels like a fridge! I hate stuffy bedrooms, and am as warm as toast in my actual bed.

Oblomov23 · 22/11/2023 05:16

Our heating is set to 19.

terraced · 22/11/2023 05:45

We're doing renovations so no heating at the moment. We've a heater in our sons room and a log burner in the living room. Bedroom doesn't have any. I'd say it's around 14-15.

GoodVibesHere · 22/11/2023 05:53

My bedroom is 16, which I do find a bit cold. I have a thick duvet and pjs.

I've just put the heating on now to warm it up a bit ready for when everyone gets up in half an hour or so.

tigger1001 · 22/11/2023 06:00

Never have heating on in the bedroom and window open almost all year round. Can't sleep in a stuffy room

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 22/11/2023 06:13

Electric blanket makes all the difference imo

Vates · 22/11/2023 06:21

It is currently 13.2 in my bedroom but have a large shawl wrapped around me so feel fine. Bit chilly coming out the shower though!

Barleycat · 22/11/2023 06:23

About 6 degrees atm

greenacrylicpaint · 22/11/2023 06:27

last night was 3 degrees outside.
in the bedroom it went down to 14 over night but was 16 when I went to bed.

an extea t-shirt under pjs, fluffy socks and a hot water bottle under winter duvet with a thick throw help.

HarrietPoole · 22/11/2023 06:31

Never have heating on in the bedroom, and always sleep with windows open, so it's generally pretty cold.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 22/11/2023 06:46

I rarely have heating on in the bedroom and the window is always slightly open.
I’m not wearing pyjamas, I have an 8 tog duvet with a throw over the top if I get chilly (rarely happens)
I usually feel the cold but not when I’m in bed.

BoobyDazzler · 22/11/2023 06:55

We turn the heating off over night and the whole house usually drops to 14-16°

ohtowinthelottery · 22/11/2023 06:57

Normally about 18° but the winter when we had no electricity for 4 days after Storm Arwen it went down to 7°c.

Twitch45 · 22/11/2023 07:02

Our heating is off overnight. It was 16 degrees in the kitchen when I came down this morning. So I assume a couple of degrees warmer in the bedroom due to body heat/smaller room/heat rising.

I hate having the heating on when I'm in bed. It makes me feel so claustrophobic!

Seaitoverthere · 22/11/2023 07:05

Heating goes down to 15 overnight. 6 degrees outside and 19.6 in bedroom this morning.
