Do you have a phone screen protector?

In the three years my son has owned his current phone, we've had to get the screen replaced 3 times. He is convinced that a screen protector is the answer, but I'm not so sure. I'm getting him a new phone for Xmas (Moto G73) so I've been tentatively looking at screen protectors too. However, Moto don't sell own-brand protectors for the G73 and all the G73 protectors on Amazon have poor reviews - either they don't fit properly, don't have camera holes, or shatter easily. I can't help thinking that if screen protectors were considered necessary and effective they would be easier to buy. But am I missing something?

I don't know about Moto phones but I would never not have a screen protector in my iPhone. They have saved my phone more times than I can count.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 19/11/2023 20:25

Yes. I can't afford to keep replacing my screen.

Actually444 · 19/11/2023 20:25

Yep. I don't use a phone until I've got a screen protector for it. The brand mous does amazing screen protectors. I mean they don't work 100% of the time of course. But I always always have one and a case. A proper case, not just a decorative one. I'm really bad with my phone though. Drop it a lot.

MinnieMotor · 19/11/2023 20:26

I have a good quality case so despite dropping the phone, I've never needed to replace a screen

CandidFruit · 19/11/2023 20:27

Absolute life (screen) saver!
In fact I changed mine only yesterday because my IPad fell on my phone screen - don’t ask! 😣

supermamio · 19/11/2023 20:28

I have always had screen protectors on my phones. They get replaced when i cant see my screen properly anymore because of the cracks and chunks that are missing 😂 then im grateful its the protector in that state and not my actual screen. I replace it probably every 6 months.

TheChosenTwo · 19/11/2023 20:28

I don’t even get my phone out of the box until I have a screen protector to go on it!
I’m so clumsy, drop my phone probably daily. It’s been years since I have cracked my actual screen, I used to replace my actual phone screen an embarrassing amount of times, the guy in the shop actually said to me the last time, you know if you just spent a tenner on a couple of protectors you wouldn’t have to come and see me again! And he was right - felt a bit bad about it 😂
Same for the rest of the family. All phones have protectors on them, the hard ones. All iPhone though and very easy to get hold of.

Sunshineboo · 19/11/2023 20:29

i swear by them. the worst case is it costs 10-15 quid and then you don't rate it, vs saves expensive repair bill. worth giving a go i think

Oblomov23 · 19/11/2023 20:29

Like pp would never NOT have.
Dh and I just bought I phone 15, I had 11 for ages. Phone repair shop puts the latest high tech screen protector and also a camera protector on for £20. Bargain!

Kittybakes89 · 19/11/2023 20:30

Screen protector and always use an otterbox case, drop my phone all the time and it still looks brand new.

boamorte · 19/11/2023 20:30

For the sake of a couple of quid it's a no brainer. I mean why the hell wouldn't you have one!

Oblomov23 · 19/11/2023 20:31

No one I know doesn't. Thus no one has a cracked screen, thus no one has to pay for screen to be replaced.

urrrgh46 · 19/11/2023 20:34

I don't - I hate them and think they ruin the experience of using the phone and screen. I do put a very robust case on though that has really good "bumpers" as my phone does get dropped regularly. None of us in the household use screen protectors - 7 phones - all use varying types of case.

kitsuneghost · 19/11/2023 20:42

Gorilla glass at all good shopping centres

How do they do that? Like others, I would never not have one, the screen is made of GLASS - why wouldn’t you protect it?! God knows how much it would take to get a new screen but I would guess much more than the £6 I pay for the JETech ones on Amazon (for an iPhone 12).

Rollercoaster1920 · 19/11/2023 20:56

A screen protector won't protect from drops on corners. They protect from small surface scratches (like keys in handbags).
I never use one, but always use a silicone case. I'm pretty careful with my phone, but even careful people drop their phones!

Inmy40 · 19/11/2023 21:00

Absolutely. A car drove over my sons new iPhone. The screen protector smashed to bits. The screen itself was fine. The spigen case saved it too. You could see the tyre mark on the case. All it needed was a new screen protector

Blanketpolicy · 19/11/2023 21:06

We have always had tempered glass screen protectors and basic slim silicon/plastic cases for our iphones and ds(19), dh (building trade and drops phone regularly from ladder height!) and I have never had a broken screen. We've had cracked screen protectors but they are so cheap we usually have a spare handy and they are easy to replace.

Don't understand how people manage to break their screens repeatedly!

Sticktoslimmingworld · 19/11/2023 21:09

Definitely and an iPad one the glass ones are very thin and good husband is an expert at putting them on.

RocketIceLollie · 19/11/2023 21:10

It's a no brainer really having a screen protector shield. It costs pittance compared to the alternative of a new phone.

MustDust · 19/11/2023 21:15

The only time I've ever broken my screen is the one time I happened to take the screen protector off, I drop mine daily, on tiles, outside, the last screen protector got a hole in the middle when I dropped it face down on a stone. Screen is fine.

RuthW · 19/11/2023 21:36

Yes. Never had to replace a screen.

gofullpelt · 19/11/2023 21:37

Yes I have a tempered glass one and I've dropped my phone numerous times. The screen protector is cracked a bit round the edges but the phone screen is intact.

WhatsThePurposeOfLife · 19/11/2023 21:38

Yes of course. Stupid not to have one.
