If anything?

I buy books and dvds and bought these over the past week but I'm wondering what else I'm missing out on?

The book buying ban starts next year.

Children’s toys and clothes mainly. I live in a very deprived area though so it’s slim pickings and oddly, really expensive. Children’s old, faded primark t shirts for £4 when they were £1.75 brand new sort of prices, so I rarely find anything.

ShanghaiDiva · 19/11/2023 19:37

Clothes and books mainly.
yesterday I bought a cookbook for ds, brand new with tags cashmere gloves for dd, hardback novel for dh, Christmas jumper for dd and a couple of cds for my mum.

ItsSoStimulatingBeingYourHat · 19/11/2023 19:42

Books- I have a whole bookshelf of unread charity shop ones, and it makes me so happy!
No matter what reading mood I’m in, there’ll be one there to choose.

80’s casserole dishes. Cosy!

I never have much luck with clothes, I get a bit overwhelmed looking round, even though I really want to.

ShadowCipher · 19/11/2023 19:44

Shoes, boots.
hi vis orange work wear (much better range of items and cheaper prices than the offical sellers eg portwest.
cargo trousers
pc monitor
secondhand mobile phone
hats
maps of the world
socks

RosesAndHellebores · 19/11/2023 19:46

Crystal bowls for trifles and salads
Bits for dd's am dram.
Christmas cards

NecklessMumster · 19/11/2023 19:47

I first look at clothes, then shoes, then books, then bric a brac. Last week I got a new looking Nordicware bundt tin for £9.99 that normally sells for £35 - £50 online 😊

Badbadbunny · 19/11/2023 19:47

Books, Cds and DVDs. I read/listen/watch them and then re-donate back to where I bought them.

ShadowCipher · 19/11/2023 19:50

some times warhammer 40k figures

TheKnittedCharacter · 19/11/2023 19:50

I always scout them for glass plates or cake stands. I have found many really lovely ones. If we have a party and lots of puddings, I like to serve them on nice glass plates.

Also, if we take a pud to friends’, I like to put it on something lovely and I’m not bothered about getting it back.

I’m also on the lookout for vintage type coupes or flutes.

elephantandorchid · 19/11/2023 19:52

Crystal glasses. I have three different patters I collect. Also nice china and crockery. I probably have too much now so I only buy specific patterns.

Mountainormolehills · 19/11/2023 19:52

@NoShelfControl did you see this helpful post? Could be exciting if it’s true!

Axelotl · 19/11/2023 19:56

Books and clothes. You have to hunt through the dross for clothes though! Upmarket brands tend to be old and worn - so not the bargain they appear to be.

Toys occasionally when dc were younger.

StarlightLime · 19/11/2023 14:33

Btw op, I noticed a Ruth Rendell in your pile that I hadn't read, checked it on Amazon and the hardcover version (which you have) is listed at £259.99 😱
You may have got far more of a bargain than you thought...

The seller is place saving to keep their rating. They do this because no-one would pay that price.

It happens with all kind of items. If you see a can opener for £150 you are unlikely to buy it, and I did see some very pricey ones recently.

Bluestar23 · 19/11/2023 20:00

My DC have tutoring an hour a week by a fantastic charity shop with clothes for me in! I've bought some lovely smart stuff for work.
They finish in a few weeks and I'm really dissapointed.
I much preferring buying 2nd hand.
It's rare I find decent stuff for the kids anywhere unfortunately. When they were younger ebay bundles we're good but they're a bit more specific about what they want now.

KohlaParasaurus · 19/11/2023 20:03

I used to buy clothes, and my young adult offspring still do. I always have a look for jeans in a shape and length that fits me.
Books.
I always make a bee-line for the bric-a-brac shelves looking for cups, plates and bowls. Recent finds have been two small Denby coffee cups and four M&S bowls just the right size and shape for a serving of stir fry with noodles.
My all time favourite purchase was an old fashioned Girl Guides leather belt with loops for a whistle and a penknife. Sadly, post-menopause I can't imagine ever being able to fasten it around my middle again.

ToriLynn · 19/11/2023 20:05

Kids clothes 🙌 they grow so fast they're usually donated back in a few months as the seasons change 😂

NatMoz · 19/11/2023 20:07

I don't really buy much from a charity shop but yesterday i got a pair of wellies and a dressing gown for my DD for £1.80!

timtam23 · 19/11/2023 20:08

Pyrex casseroles
Knitting yarn
Old bone china crockery and tea cups/saucers
100% cotton clothing that I can cut up for sewing projects
Jigsaw puzzles
Clothes to wear, when I find them, but quality has definitely gone down recently. Most of my wardrobe comes from charity shops and when the DCs were small I bought almost all of their clothes, books and toys from charity shops.

Allthescreens · 19/11/2023 20:11

Most things but especially clothes.

Most recent purchase was our sofa (3-seater leather) & armchair, which was £50 delivered plus old one taken away.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 19/11/2023 20:13

Books and the odd jumper.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/11/2023 20:15

Books, but I take most of them back once read. Some of our bookshelves are double-stacked as it is - some serious ‘weeding’ is needed soon.

Twilight7777 · 19/11/2023 20:19

Clothes, shoes, bags, sometimes jewellery (costume jewellery), occasional vases or similar, Christmas ornaments

caringcarer · 19/11/2023 20:22

I buy books too.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 19/11/2023 20:23

Books, some clothes and craft stuff.

I got my current winter coat in a charity shop for £8. It’s one of the warmest and most comfy coats I’ve ever had!
