If anything?

I buy books and dvds and bought these over the past week but I'm wondering what else I'm missing out on?

The book buying ban starts next year.

Clothes mainly - i get work stuff and jeans mainly.
Sometimes books and home ware but mostly clothes.

WakingCliche · 19/11/2023 15:39

Clothes and kitchenware.

I just recently bought a satin pillowcase and a couple of sparkly tops that I have washed, just a quid each and have made three Christmas stockings out of them and with the scraps I have made a small garland for the mantlepiece.

FijiSea · 19/11/2023 15:40

Home wear , love vintage plates and dishes.
Clothes for myself and kids.
Books
Shoes
Basically anything and everything , I love charity shops.
I only buy from the local individual charity shops though as the main chains like BHF and cancer research are too expensive , they price items more than I can buy brand new from F & F / New look etc.

TolkiensFallow · 19/11/2023 15:45

I NEVER manage to get clothes but do well on kids games, craft kits and toddle toys etc

Gingernaut · 19/11/2023 15:47

Books

CDs

I rummage for silk scarves - sometimes I get lucky

I rummage through the bric-a-brac, I occasionally find something I've been looking for and sometimes something tickles my fancy

murasaki · 19/11/2023 15:50

I only go to the one at the end of the road when I specifically need something and can't be arsed to go further afield, so far it's come up trumps each time.

Vase, black small handbag, enamel dish for lasagne etc.

I'm sure if i go for a browse it will lose its special powers.

Most of our stuff! Currently I am wearing a charity shop t-shirt (New Look) and just went out in a charity shop coat (SuperDry) and trainers (Nikes) with a charity shop day sack (Regatta). So as you can see, mix of more expensive brands and cheaper stuff - whatever takes my eye. Only my trousers are new (my mom got me them - pretty much the only new clothes DD and I have are bought by mom).

This weekend I went to charity chops Friday afternoon and Saturday. I got six books in total - four for me, one for dd, one for husband and one for friend (all Xmas presents). All 50p each I think. And a short sleeved woolen top I will wear for work for £3.50 - Next. On Sat I went with my dd and we got her a jumper - I think it was only Poundland brand originally, but she liked it and it was £2.99.

We get: clothes; shoes; books; DVDs; CDs; cook wear; bedding and curtains; gifts; electricals; frames and pictures; furniture; jewellery - pretty much everything! We are lucky in that the charity shops round here are still mostly very affordable (West Mids).

Giggorata · 19/11/2023 16:44

Books, clothes and replacement glassware, mainly.
But I really enjoy most the serendipity element offered by charity shops - anything can turn up!

TheSnootiestFox · 19/11/2023 16:47

Yesterday's purchases included John Deere overalls for DS2's upcoming tractor course, 2 Ryedale fleeces for same son, and a lambswool jumper for me. £7.50 the lot. I love them!

MrsLeonFarrell · 19/11/2023 16:53

Pretty much everything. I have a list in my head of things I'm looking for and I wait until I find it. I find being regular about visiting the shops helps with finding things

GuffyTheDustBuster · 19/11/2023 17:00

Books.
Kitchen tat - the sort of thing that gets given as a gift but isn't used.
Currently looking for a wine bottle foil cutter as I fancy one but don't want to pay much for it.
Also seeking napkins but I don't think we're the type of town that has damask stuff being given away 😁

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/11/2023 17:01

Yesterday I bought a trifle bowl and four Ladybird books. I'm hoping to find some glass dessert dishes before Christmas.

I used to buy clothes but it's getting really hard to find stuff - it's mostly Primark and H&M tat.

FuckKnowsMate · 19/11/2023 17:02

Please can we see the front of the A Christmas Carol book OP 🙂

declutteringmymind · 19/11/2023 17:02

Books
Puzzles

Clothes - especially if only needed for one wear

Then anything brand new like

Games, wool, wrapping paper, cards, craft stuff,

CesareBorgia · 19/11/2023 17:03

Everything! Books, DVDs, music, clothes, kitchen stuff. Got a great radio-controlled clock last year for £2.50 that I discovered sold for around £80 on eBay.

Whattheduck · 19/11/2023 17:10

Clothes - today I’m wearing a pair of New Look trousers that cost me £1 and a thick Zara cardigan that cost me £6
Kitchenware
Books
Bags
Dd who is 18 also loves looking around charity shops she recently got a Superdry gilet for £10 it looks brand new
We have 3 good ones in my village and when I visit my mum there’s 4 in the village next to hers which are also really good

Mooserp · 19/11/2023 17:10

Charity shops are my favourite shops. 😁

I don't really enjoy other shopping but I love finding bargains. Mostly books and clothes.

purplecorkheart · 19/11/2023 17:11

Books mainly. The odd bit of jewellery and the odd storage item. I tend not to browse at clothes as I honestly do not need them so avoid being tempted.

TheValueOfEverything · 19/11/2023 17:11

Clothes, especially wool coats, leather belts and gloves, tailored formal clothes for work. I found a beautiful black Max Mara trouser suit for £40 recently. Occasionally find the odd “trendy” brand for my teens - eg an Abercrombie hoody for £6. Clothes for fancy dress - a long dark brown velvet dress for £5 made a brilliant Bellatrix costume last year.
Books, vinyl, occasionally homeware eg a ceramic or glass vase or plant pot. Sometimes these make good Christmas gifts.

When we moved house bought a few placeholder pieces of furniture cheaply from local homeware charity shop - eg console table, small bookcases, side tables, curtains etc.

Daisymay2 · 19/11/2023 17:14

In the past got DS a DJ which he wore for several 6th form dinners/ house dinners and formal nights on a cruise. I think it was £17.50. One of his friend hired from Moss Bros for school stuff and paid out about £200 so a real bargain.
Recently bought a wooden picture frame and 4 Sainsbury’s home White dinner plates for other DS. £2 for plates and 1.75 for the frame.

sixteenfurryfeet · 19/11/2023 17:18

I love a charity shop rummage. Tend to come away with the same sort of things though, books, scarves and random ornaments. Occasionally I've bought clothes, I got a lovely Laura Ashley jumper last year that lots of people have admired, and I used to get clothes and toys for dd when she was a kid.

These days though, I tend to take more stuff in them than I bring out.

I buy most of my works clothes from charity shops - a Jaeger jacket, Jigsaw wool skirt and Boden dress among the latest! Love a good rummage.

Stroopwaffels · 19/11/2023 17:25

I am a volunteer in one and am always finding something to buy. Latest purchases include some nice wee wrapped soaps, knitting yarn, a black Hobbs dress, several paperback novels, jigsaws, a nice scented candle, Christmas decorations etc etc etc.
