I have been on here for a week and what I know is:

People on here are so negative and toxic.

Any nice comments are met with constant backlash. It's draining.

Just be happy.

Great contribution

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 15/11/2023 19:46

Ok then

WanderingWitches · 15/11/2023 19:46

Netmums is that way ➡️

Ladybirdbookworm · 15/11/2023 19:46

Get yourself over to AIBU then you’ll really know what’s what ….

SummerHouse · 15/11/2023 19:54

Sometimes this site is incredible. The things I have read. The things I have learned. I got my son the medication he needed because a poster took the time to comment. I watched and waited while Jesus opened a jar (my description doesn't really do justice to that brilliant thread). I have loved this site. But some people are arseholes. That is life. There is good if you care to look.

amicissimma · 15/11/2023 20:08

I've been on here for about 20 years. I have noticed that often people complain that others are 'nasty', 'mean', 'vicious', 'negative', etc, when what's really happened is that they've been disagreed with, ie a different point of view/perpective has been offered.

I would definitely say that the good outweighs the bad.

Helenahandkart · 15/11/2023 20:09

OP isn’t wrong.
Yes, there’s a lot of usual info on here, and it’s usually my first port of call if I need a product recommendation or something.
But I wouldn’t come here for emotional support.

cassiatwenty · 15/11/2023 20:18

Avoid AIBU

MargaretThursday · 15/11/2023 20:22

Is this a case of "if you can't beat them, join them"?

Xmasdread22 · 15/11/2023 20:23

Ohhh just be happy. I'm surprised no ones suggested that before, we can all just do that now!

I have received outstanding emotional support and I, as well as a lot of other posters who do much more than me, provide emotional support, advice.

There were so many threads of, for example, posters rushing to see their dying parent having a panic attack or being in an abusive relationship or even people being suicidal who have all been helped by MN posters.

I respect your opinion but it hasn't been my experience. It's not Utopia but it beats cesspits like Reddit.

I agree with you. There are some lovely people here but they are drowned out by all the misery guts who love to insult and generally be rude

RudsyFarmer · 15/11/2023 20:27

Just block the negative sections. Go into settings and you can block all the crazy areas of the site and exist in perfect harmony with the sane people who don’t want to argue all day long.

Did you know that you can light a cigarette in your garden by running an extension lead outside and attaching it to a toaster?

The place is full of marvellous snapshots into other peoples lives! 😂

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/11/2023 20:27

We can't all agree with each other 😄

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 15/11/2023 20:31

I've been here since about 2001. It's definitely become toxic and nasty . It does attract a huge amount of traffic tho from all different demographics . It was teeny tiny back in the day .and i mean tiny
I think people in general have become arseholes
I'm a very different person to what I was 20 years ago

Mamma1982 · 15/11/2023 20:34

Totally agree. I rarely see any positive comments from people. It's really draining.

If you are positive and try to be helpful to others you are projected as a saint or sanctimonious. Can't win really.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/11/2023 20:36

Get ye to the 'litter tray'.
People are really rather nice there in my experience.

GCAcademic · 15/11/2023 20:37

It's amazing how many people spend their evenings on a site that is "toxic" doing something that they find "draining", isn't it?

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 15/11/2023 20:39

While you yourself are a beacon of positivity.

Get over to the gardening threads, where the very worst that can happen is your compost heap goes slimy.

Screamingabdabz · 15/11/2023 20:39

Sorry to break it to you, but telling people to stfu and ‘just be happy’ is a big red flag of toxic positivity. Perhaps you’re part of the problem?

Thank you for posting that link Rudsy! Very helpful

LetMeHibernate · 15/11/2023 20:41

Just be happy is great advice. Maybe you could share it with some world leaders, starting in the Middle East.
