Has anyone else got this awful cold?

I feel absolutely dreadful and have been sneezing constantly for 3 days. My head is hurting and all the muscles round my chest are painful. I have sneezed so much my pelvic floor has given up. I have done 2 covid tests (negative), I feel so ill and exhausted. I have a hospital appointment tomorrow for something else. I thought I would be feeling better and was going to wear a mask. Now I am wondering whether I should try to cancel. I have never had sneezing like it. If anyone has had it, how long did it last?

DH and I are on week 2, sorry :(

It’s really shit. Lemsip Day & Night tablets are doing their job though. Along with plenty of Vicks.

So… no help, but plenty of empathy over here.

Yes on day 10 here and have labyrinthitis as well. Still feeling rough. Stopped sneezing but still coughing constantly. Feel shattered just doing basic stuff.

everythingthelighttouches · 14/11/2023 23:06

I have these symptoms. Feel awful. Sinuses so bad my teeth ache.

Husband is a few days ahead of me and in addition to constant sneezing and coughing, has a fever of 39c. He’s never ill at all and he’s been going to bed early, which is most disconcerting!!

I was on the train on my way back from London today and I’ve never heard such a cacophony!

It sounded like everyone on the entire coach was coughing and sneezing.

Bluelightbaby · 14/11/2023 23:08

Yep on day two and it’s awful….i really hope it doesn’t go on for weeks like other posters !

Ineedanewmoniker · 15/11/2023 07:32

2 weeks!!
OMG.
DH brought me some lemsip home last night which settled it a little, but I have woken up sneezing again this morning and with a really chesty cough. It is the sneezing that is exhausting.

We were dropping like flies at work, I'm finally better after 3 weeks, it took me out worse because of other health issues but two of my work mates still have the cough and its horrible for them.

Mrsjayy · 15/11/2023 07:41

yes me I feel terrible, I started using first defence on Sunday and it usually works by now I've started day and night tablets to see if that helps.

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 15/11/2023 07:42

Yup, was awful - I kept going then it came back and got me again so 2 days in bed. Afraid it's still lingering at week 5 😞 for me, but that might be because I'm working stupid hours at fast pace and stress levels through the roof!

Mrsjayy · 15/11/2023 07:42

I ve also started coughing this morning.

gofullpelt · 15/11/2023 07:45

Maybe add an antihistamine to your list of meds? I also find steaming helpful (I have a steam inhaler from boots but a bowl and a towel over your head will do the job)

IHeartGeneHunt · 15/11/2023 07:48

I had it last week, still got the cough and an unholy amount of snot.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 15/11/2023 08:06

Yes, dd had it and was really unwell, and now I've got it 😥. Have spent the last three nights awake coughing non stop, nose streaming.

margotrose · 15/11/2023 08:09

A friend of mine has it and is on day nine - she's just been signed off work with it.

spiderlight · 15/11/2023 08:11

DH and I had it last week. He's still coughing. I had a fever over 39 degrees at one point. It was vile. Worst I've felt for a long time.

ChristieEve · 15/11/2023 08:11

Have you done a Covid test? My last bout of covid was essentially a very heavy and slow moving cold; quite unlike the symptoms I had first time around which were more "traditional" (cough, fever, loss of taste). I would not go to a hospital appt Covid but I might, with a mask, if I had a cold.

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 15/11/2023 08:12

I had this too, and it turned out to be Covid. Latest variant includes a lot of sneezing apparently. Hope you all feel better soon, whatever you have, it sucks.

Lastminutebride · 15/11/2023 08:14

Yep and it’s covid. Although every time I’ve had covid it’s presented as the most awful heavy cold that takes nearly two weeks to clear.

caringcarer · 15/11/2023 08:31

2 weeks ago I went on holiday on a cruise ship. After 3 days I got a cough/cold and felt awful with a headache and muscle aches and very congested. Tested for COVID twice but negative. Ruined my holiday. Towards end of 2 weeks cruise DH got it, just as I was feeling a bit better. He still has it. It's not Covid he's tested negative but it feels just like when I had Covid.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/11/2023 08:43

Dh had exactly the same and it was Covid.

Ineedanewmoniker · 15/11/2023 08:45

I have done 2 tests. Both negative.

Also on week 2 here although I seem to be holding it off from making me take to my bed. Kids are on week 3. I have to COVID test for work and it's absolutely not COVID but I have had to check in with my Dr and get steroids because my asthma is on the cusp of becoming a challenge.

ifonly4 · 15/11/2023 08:52

Hope you feel better soon. It could well be an awful cold, but it took me four days to test positive for covid.

Putting that aside, if you're really not well and sneezing/coughing is it fair to pass that onto someone working in the hospital. Either cancel, or if you can wear a mask (probably unlikely for too long if you're that bad) then do that.

TheFTrain · 15/11/2023 08:54

Yes. Ear ache, sore throat, headaches and feel exhausted. Sneezing sporadically, runny nose, cough. I'm coming up to a week with it with the first 3 days having been the worst. I do a physical job which I've carried on doing so I know I'm not helping myself but if I don't work I don't get paid. Hate this time of year for exactly this reason.

Mrsjayy · 15/11/2023 08:59

I had covid in September surely it can't be covid again? I've no tests left I'm just going with "cold" for now.
