Has anyone else got this awful cold?

I feel absolutely dreadful and have been sneezing constantly for 3 days. My head is hurting and all the muscles round my chest are painful. I have sneezed so much my pelvic floor has given up. I have done 2 covid tests (negative), I feel so ill and exhausted. I have a hospital appointment tomorrow for something else. I thought I would be feeling better and was going to wear a mask. Now I am wondering whether I should try to cancel. I have never had sneezing like it. If anyone has had it, how long did it last?

2 weeks!!
OMG.
DH brought me some lemsip home last night which settled it a little, but I have woken up sneezing again this morning and with a really chesty cough. It is the sneezing that is exhausting.

Could be covid? The new variabt involves a lot of coughing and sneezing. I have it now.

DS and I have it. DS is on day 7, I am on day 5. DH hasn't caught it; DH is the only one of us who has already had a flu jab this year. We had a raging temperature, aches and chills for the first 2-3 days which wiped us out, with ghastly cough, sniffles and fatigue which look set to hang on for a couple of weeks. That is a description of good old fashioned influenza. We're testing negative for covid and we both had that in October.

Apart from the fact there is hardly any flu/influenza yet @Cockerdileteeth .

And we’re not in ‘influenza season’ yet either.

It's more likely to be COVID if you're presenting with flu symptoms.

It's more likely to be COVID if you're presenting with flu symptoms.

You really can't tell without testing, we all had Covid recently and we all had completely different symptoms. As I said earlier she's symptoms were that of a heavy ,sneezy cold but mine were flu like with temperature and body aches.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 15/11/2023 09:29

The awful cold is very probably covid - has anyone tested?

(Anecdotally, people may well not test positive until a few days into symptoms, and even when everyone in a household clearly has the same thing, some people don't seem to test positive at all).

If it could be covid, the important thing is to rest. Don't try to sweat it out (by being deliberately active) and take more rest than you think you really need.

It's flooring quite a lot of people for 1-2 weeks, so if you've got it, do everything you can to avoid spreading it.

And if you've not had it yet, and can't afford to risk needing time off work, keep away from people who have/might have it (wear a mask if you have to be near strangers indoors, improve ventilation wherever possible)

I had similar last week. Never sneezed so violently in all my life, banging headache. No cough, so I didn't think it could be covid, but of course it was. I am hoping to test negative today or tomorrow. You could just have a dodgy box of tests.

Blueskiesforecast · 15/11/2023 09:33

Yes got that now. Not covid , but actually worse than the covids I’ve had ! I feel like normal colds are back in competition now as before every cold was covid.

pinkunicorns54 · 15/11/2023 09:38

I've just got over Covid. It was like this, runny nose, sinuses were awful!
One child (baby) had runny nose, cough and tummy issues (for 6 days!!!!)
My DH had a cold - but still felt pretty rough. Toddler got away with it!! Don't know how!!

Only I tested positive for Covid - but there is no doubt in my mind the baby had Covid!!

Oganesson118 · 15/11/2023 09:39

I had it the other week, lasted a week for me in terms of feeling terrible but I'm still a bit snotty. Also covid negative but I'm out of tests now.

It's more likely to be COVID if you're presenting with flu symptoms.

I had covid a month ago (positive LFDs). Unlikely to get it again so soon, testing negative this time round, and it feels different. Feels like the flu. DH, who's had a flu jab, hasn't caught it from me and DS, and he usually catches everything. But we aren't allowed to have flu in November so, flu-like illness. Either way, not one to spread around.

Porridgeislife · 15/11/2023 09:42

I’ve got this, I’ve tested but it’s not Covid.

Crushing fatigue - I spent Friday - Sunday in bed as much as having a toddler allows. Somewhat congested but not overly so with a hacking dry cough. Currently keeping Robitussin dry cough syrup in business!

This is truthfully worse than when I had Covid around this time last year.

Lifeinlists · 15/11/2023 09:46

DH on 2nd week and now has nasty conjunctivitis in both eyes too. Nurse Lifeinlists working to a 2 hourly regime of bathing and applying antibacterial drops. Looking a bit better today. He's going to test for covid again in case it takes days to show - not that it'll make any material difference.

Both of us had flu and covid vaccine boosters in September. I'm hoping I've been spared!

LizzyLongbow · 15/11/2023 09:51

Yes and I'm now into week 3. I now think I must have sinusitis so am thinking of making an appointment with my GP. I never take antibiotics but this is ridiculous, I'm so congested.
