How old is your bed / mattress?

I have no idea how old mine is. I think I sharpied on the underside whrn we bought it so I will try to look tomorrow.

I was reaching out to turn over last night and put my hand inside onto the broken spins. It's totally buggered! Every spin on mine and dhs side where we sit to get up / lay down has snapped now

How old is your bed / mattress?

New mattress about 10 years ago 🙄Bed frame over 30years !!Am definitely going to invest in new mattress because my hips hurt 😔

DyslexicPoster · 14/11/2023 00:04

I think mine has tipped from being uncomfortable to a health hazard. The kids have peed on it a few times as baby's. I'm going to be mortified to get rid of it. I think even the frame has had it as dh trod on a open draw and snapped that off.

My pine bed frame was £25 in 2005, it was advertised on a card in the village shop window. Foam mattress bought new in 2009 was replaced with a new deeper one three months ago, the old one is now on the spare bed that my little grandsons use.

Mattress bought in 2002 so 21.5 yrs old. 2 kids and loads of stains on it! But it's still really comfy and I would hate to fork out on a new one and dislike it. It was an expensive m&s organic type thing around £800 in 2002. Way too heavy to flip over on my own. I'd stopped turning it after a few years. It has lasted longer than my marriage anyway!

sweettooth23 · 14/11/2023 00:23

I bought the dark wood frame at the same time and matching wardrobes. I think they've gone out of fashion but possibly back in again?

ShinyPikachu · 14/11/2023 00:24

No idea how old the bed is as DH had it before we met. We bought a new mattress for it 4 years ago though.

MintJulia · 14/11/2023 00:30

2005 for both frame & mattress.

The mattress is a 1200+ handsprung thing and still so comfortable I won't replace it yet. The one in the spare room is older, and probably need to be replaced sooner.

Topseyt123 · 14/11/2023 00:35

Bed frame is about 25 years old and still going strong. It has had a couple of changes of mattress in that time, the last of which was just a couple of years ago.

Typical life is 7-10 years. Depends on quality, how it's cared for, weight it bears amd number of sleepers on it (I'm assuming that means 1, or 2 people).

Mine is fairly good quality ($3000CAD, but lucked out on a clearance sale so got it for 50% off!)) 8 years ago and I regularly rotate it 180degrees (pillow-top, so you don't flip it), vacuum and steam clean it monthly and have a water-proof mattress protector on it.
Plan to replace it in 2-3 years.
Bought a lower priced model as a gift for a family member (at $1500 regular price) and that one is also holding up beautifully with same care.

Checked the site and they sell in Europe. I am in Canada.

Memory foam mattress 18 years old, only a couple of stains though! Bed frame about 11 years old. Eek 😂

MrShady · 14/11/2023 01:36

Bed frame 16 years old, it's metal and solid
Mattress maybe 8 years old

Coldia · 14/11/2023 01:49

Just worked out my bed is 25 years old! It's proper wood though, which I guess lasts. My mattress is two years old and I do look after it so hopefully got a good few years left yet.

Joystir59 · 14/11/2023 01:54

Bed and mattress bought two years ago

AHeadForHeights · 14/11/2023 02:42

I've had my mattress longer than I've known dh. It's almost 20 years old. We need a new one but can't afford it yet and when we do, I want a decent one.

InTheCheapSeats · 14/11/2023 02:44

The bed frame is over fifty years old ( it was my childhood bed and metal ) and the mattresses are just under a year old as we replaced them in the last January sales.

LaurieStrode · 14/11/2023 02:49

Bed about 100 years, mattress about 10 years.

I've been thinking of a new mattress lately. I always keep several white fitted sheets on it, between it and my bedding, so it's clean and like-new in appearance. But there is a sag in the center.

bonkersAlice · 14/11/2023 03:00

Mattress is about 5 years old but the bed it’s self is 1960’s. Oak frame and slats, and weighs a ton.

Psychoticbreak · 14/11/2023 03:05

Invested in a really decent bed with mattress in January just gone as the cheap argos one I had had was so uncomfortable. Best investment ever.

Mushroomwithaview · 14/11/2023 03:08

About 15 years old? 3 kids, lots of stains, it's a bit gross but it's still comfy.

I would definitely replace it if I had the money, but I don't so eh.

LaurieStrode · 14/11/2023 06:08

My sister has an inexpensive IKEA mattress in her spare room and it's unbelievably comfortable.

DisforDarkChocolate · 14/11/2023 06:12

A couple of months, before that 13 years! This time I bought a lovely metal bedframe so I only have to replace the mattress next time.

TroysMammy · 14/11/2023 06:12

My bed frame is a solid wooden one from the Co-op which was in their sale for £200 in 1989, but my mattress is 6 years old.

Caspianberg · 14/11/2023 06:13

About 10 years. It was really expensive ( about x5 the cost of the bed frame), and has something like 4500 springs. So it’s still really comfortable and nothing seems broken or dented.
I have always used a full mattress protector and then a wool mattress protector ontop, so it’s also really clean as both of those can be taken off and washed.

We have a wooden king sized bed frame which is 20 years old and perfectly fine. No different to the day we bought it. We are however about to move it into the spare room and buy an emperor sized bed since we are overheating and disturbing one another in the night. Mattress is 14 years old and also fine. Neither were the cheapest options though when we bought them.

PuttingDownRoots · 14/11/2023 06:30

Bed frame... bought when we married and moved in together 13 years ago. Its moved house 7 times with us, across three countries, including being shipped.

Mattress... its the third one. The first one, it wasn't worth the shipping space home from Cyprus. The second one was a bit crap... so when we moved into our permanent home 2.5 years ago, we treated ourselves to a good one.
