Hairydryer for Boys!

Hello,

A bit of a strange request. My son is 17 over the Christmas period and is a nightmare to shop for. He only wants computer games and doesn't really need anything. However he keep pinching my hair dryer so I've decided I'll get him one of his own for his birthday. However, the boxes that I can see online all have pictures of women on (granted most don't actually have pictures of the box!)

So I challenge you, Mumsnet readers, to find me a hair dryer with a picture of a man or failing that, a box with no person on it. Online please, could do c&c, but realized I have something on every weekend up until Christmas and no time for shopping! Up to £50. Not typically female colours either please!

Yes I know it's an odd present to buy, but other than clothes and games I'm at a loss. If you have any suggestions what a 17 year old boy might like, send them over too!

Thanks :)

This is nuts. If I wanted a drill and the box had a picture of a man on it, it wouldn't be an issue. If seeing a picture of a woman on a box may offend him, get one of those fabric hairdryer bags that hotels use and wrap it in that instead of using the box.

Treseme- on offer at boots online.

Or yeah get over that there's a woman on the box. Women have to cope with the reverse all the time.

Just get any hairdryer. The fact that there's a woman on the box doesn't mean it can't be used by a man. He"s already using a "woman's" hairdryer by using yours.

Indeed. Surely once he removes it from the box it will just be exactly like your hairdryer? I can't imagine anyone getting worked up over it having a picture of the opposite sex on it, it's just a picture.

Failing that wrap up your hairdryer and treat yourself to a nice new one.

The Dyson box doesn’t have a picture of a woman on it. It’s obviously also £££ though!

I know so many guys who use hairdryers. Seems really outdated of the manufacturers. I’d be equally pissed if drills had men on too.

My boys didn't give a shit that there was a woman on the box but admittedly would prefer a hairdryer that was black or silver rather than pink.

My son has ASD and I'm expecting if there's a woman on the box he won't use it.

So take it out of the box and put it into a gift box instead? He uses yours and it probably had a women on the box too.

Bit of a drip feed there!

Not really. Only a few comments in and only half an hour after I originally posted.

But it was pretty important information @Pearlywhite23 that would have stopped all the responses you had about it being a daft thing to ask for!

I'd get him the right hairdryer and rebox. I understand your dilemma. I have a good Parlux compact, and I don't remember the box now but it's a good dryer (and I hate hairdryers and hairdrying)

Why?? If you are asking if anyone knows of a hairdryer with a box geared to men that is exactly what you asking for ! Not your opinion on whether you think that is a stupid thing or not and she doesn’t need to give the whole background as to why she wants what she wants in order for you to decide if it’s acceptable to ask for one. she was just asking if anyone knew of any!!

BoohooWoohoo · 13/11/2023 08:23

It's a drip feed because my mind jumped to sexism rather than autism.
I would take it out of the box and wrap the contents. If you have a spare box then you could put it in that.

GigiAnnna · 13/11/2023 08:25

I bought a Revlon one from Amazon, no person on the box.

Papillon23 · 13/11/2023 08:26

Remington D3010 doesn't appear to have a woman on the box, which is black and purple if that worked? Otherwise I'd take it out its box and put it in a bag as suggested by others.

Go for the treseme one then

Indeed.

I'd also avoid a hairdryer aimed at just men it sounds very gimmicky and something designed to simply add money to the price, I doubt it would be any better for a man's hair than a bog standard one. You'd honestly be better getting a decently review hairdryer from Argos or something and just repackaging it.

fuzzystar · 13/11/2023 08:27

Or splash out and get ghd with his name on

0scillate · 13/11/2023 08:27

Why does asd have anything to do with it?

AutumnNamechange · 13/11/2023 08:35

OK, get a plain box to put it in then. If you are feeling creative you could decorate it with pictures of men with great hair. I guess there just isn't enough of a market for males who won't use anything with a woman on the box..
