Hairydryer for Boys!

Hello,

A bit of a strange request. My son is 17 over the Christmas period and is a nightmare to shop for. He only wants computer games and doesn't really need anything. However he keep pinching my hair dryer so I've decided I'll get him one of his own for his birthday. However, the boxes that I can see online all have pictures of women on (granted most don't actually have pictures of the box!)

So I challenge you, Mumsnet readers, to find me a hair dryer with a picture of a man or failing that, a box with no person on it. Online please, could do c&c, but realized I have something on every weekend up until Christmas and no time for shopping! Up to £50. Not typically female colours either please!

Yes I know it's an odd present to buy, but other than clothes and games I'm at a loss. If you have any suggestions what a 17 year old boy might like, send them over too!

Thanks :)

Just take it out of the box.

Bit of a drip feed there!

Not really, OP doesn't owe you any medical information. The fact that her son would prefer a box without a woman on it is all you need to know.

To be fair, we didn't even know that, only that the OP wanted a box with no women on.

To be fair a teenage boy might appreciate a picture of a lady on the box... 🙄

I have a Babyliss 'pro' hairdryer. It's black and ancient but I'm sure it came in a black box. I'd look for any marketed at the 'pro' market. Have a look in Salon Services.

Have a look on boots website babyliss travel white box or revlon seem to be red boxes and progliss I think it was are blueish boxes.

I totally get it I wouldn't buy a hairdryer with rose gold bits for a guy either.

My boys didn't give a shit that there was a woman on the box but admittedly would prefer a hairdryer that was black or silver rather than pink.

I feel the same and I am a woman

BarbaraofSeville · 13/11/2023 10:38

Interested if there's actually any difference between a men's and a women's hairdryer (better for short hair, but then a man who uses a hair dryer probably has longer hair anyway?) or would the handle and switches be better sized for larger hands?

Or would it be exactly the same as a women's hairdryer but just in a 'manly' colour?

Anyway, the no!no! one linked to above looks good and is in budget.

Sugarfree23 · 13/11/2023 10:42

@BarbaraofSeville hairdryers used to be a very neutral colours, my granny had an orange one, Mums was cream, mine are both 20+ and black.

The let's give women (and girls) pink and lilac everything has only been a thing for the last 20 years.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/11/2023 15:01

I have a Tresemme one without any pics, male or female on the box
My DS has a dyson Grey I think at the other end of the budget

Whataretheodds · 13/11/2023 15:03

News to me that hairdryers should be operated with a specific type of genitals

amusedbush · 13/11/2023 15:34

Does he have long or short hair? I ask because most hairdryers have a long nozzle which is designed to be held pointing downwards, to smooth out long hair. I can imagine such long nozzle would be a bit unwieldly to dry short hair so if his is short, I'd recommend getting something compact, more like the shape of a Dyson hairdryer (but without the Dyson price tag!).

ohdamnitjanet · 13/11/2023 15:37

Seriously? Just buy him a hairdryer and don’t suck him into such sexist shite.

KaiserChefs · 13/11/2023 15:39

Buy him a secondhand Parlux or a GHD or a Dyson and take it out of the box! He can't argue with high quality.

The nozzle comes off on literally every model of hairdryer though.

I get the feeling you don't understand what it can be like to buy for an autistic individual
